Now we move on the Quarterfinals!!
What does everyone think pretty quiet during the most exciting time of the YEAR!!
Surprised Sleepy Eye didn't score a few more goals...
Wondering if Luverne might pull the upset???
I am smelling an upset in Marshall tomorrow night. Beating a team three times in a year is tough, especially when they are this closely matched. It will come down to goal tending in this game, Marshall has the edge with the more experienced tender, but I feel Luverne has the more potent scoring threats.
If New Ulm has all of their players and makes it to the finals, they are my favorite to win the section. Without them, it looks like Hutch to me. Without them they will struggle getting a win in the Semi game.
everyone on here knows as well as i do new ulm is going to put up a ten spot on fairmont tomorrow night, only chance marshall or luverne will have is if burgau has a terrible game in net witch i dont see happening. the eagles have dominated marshall both times this season, the only bright spot was marshalls goalie who is a solid tendy. i think luverne would pose the biggest threat because of their ability to put the puck in the net. however their goalie isnt very solid and they are not a good defensive team. my prediction, new ulm vs hutch section championship game with the eagles taking it in a nail bitter 5-3(en goal).

HAHAHA oh God Luverne is a scoring MACHINE!! too bad there schedule wasn't any easier they might of got some respect in the section then...
Luverne's Schedule being Easy?? Ok True Compared to Litch, New Ulm and Hutch BUT.....
Since Jan. 4th
Marshall has played
Luverne, Sleepy Eye (2x), Worthington, Windom, Redwood Valley(2x), Morris Benson (2x), L-H/SP, Sioux Falls, New Ulm
Luverne has played
Marshall, Sleepy Eye (2x), Worthington (2x), Windom (2x), Redwood Valley(2x), Morris Benson, Legacy Christian, Sioux Falls, Princeton, Simley, Dodge County
Both Play all the SWC Teams
Dodge County, Simley and Princeton are better then St. Peter
So ummm....... Looks pretty much the same boys !?!?!?
Marshall before and during christmas plays a great looking schedule no doubt way better then Luverne but after that they both the same strength of schedule down the stretch.
I never have understood that Marshall plays such a good schedule early and you can tell Marshall is alway tough early. Then they drastically change and start to play down a little...
Now does that mean Luverne wins tomorrow night.... It would take a huge upset. This is Marshall's last really good group and I look for the 12 seniors to come out flying.
Luverne's best years are ahead of them they have a really good Sophomore Class and good Youth Teams coming...
Tomorrow will be interesting comes down to Goaltending and D-zone in the playoffs two areas where Marshall is very strong. The biggest difference in the game is Noble in the nets.
Thats why you gotta like Marshall to win this game.
One last thing where is Campion (Bettmans Bender) I could use some good Luverne bashing on the eve of Luverne vs Marshall... Sure he will be on later he will not be happy seeing anyone doubt his tigers.
Good luck to both teams. The last time Luverne went to Marshall tragedy struck the Luverne hockey family following the game the Cardinals have went (13-3) since. In the bigger picture hope all family have safe travels and come the end of the game no one get hurts.
Hadnt seen luverne play til tonight..... can somebody tell me what number this fitzer kid is?!?? I was waiting to see this stud everyones talking about... guess he didnt show up tonight. luverne has one good player. one. 14 MAXWELL, no supporting cast for him. Meyer will be a good goalie someday, not yet but someday. Has to get stronger and figure out his rebound control. close his 5 hole.
I'll admit based on the scores being so close last time and the rivalry that these two teams have created i thought luverne would come out and give marshall a run. especially given the circumstances that their team has faced this year. but... i guess luverne just is not as good. period.
the beating a team for a 3rd time in a season is a load of crap...the 3rd time is no different. looks to me like marshall didn't have a hard time beating luvurne for the 3rd time in one year. its all stupid. anybody can beat anybody no matter how many times they played during the regular season.
Now as for Marshall vs. New Ulm..the tigers have nothing to lose or prove i see them leaving it all out on the ice. it will be a game right down to the wire

HA Luverne played Sioux falls' JV team! haha also legacy christian??? whoo?? 5 wins all year against teams like Becker? haha well its over now and they sure finished the season putting the puck in the net eh?
luvern is a hockey powerhouse this year. anyone remember that big skilled player they had in that system back in '07. he was #5. Jack Rypin or something like that? can anyone help me out?

do you follow luverne hockey? because I dont. i just remember them having a great player back in '06 or '07.
BuffaloRidgeHockey--Marshall's should play a tougher and more balanced schedule but they also played litch, hutch, Kato W, providence. in the same vein, they only played 23 regular season games when many teams play 25.
While Luverne has some good younger players they lose a lot this year.
There were no surprises in the New Ulm, Hutch and Litch games. Not very good warm ups.
No surprise in Marshall really. Marshall played poorly in both of the prior games with Luverne. This time they played ok. If they want to play with New Ulm the senior forwards will have to step up play. There defense "19" needs to stay out of the box.
No one's mentioning the Dragons from Litchfield...why? No respect for these guys? I thing these guys will play NU in the section final. They are a scrappy team and play hard. On a nuetral stage these guys have a chance against Hutch and they have an excellent coaching staff!
As for the NU/Marshall game.....this could be a really good game! Could be. Which ever team can stay outta the box the least will win this one. #19 is always in the box for Marshall, he's one of the cheapest players in the section. NU has a few guys that like to yap it up a bit...but they look as if they can stand behind all the discussions. I'm taking NU in this one 5-1. Burgau is gonna play BIG in this game! It sounds like he didn't see many shots last night against Fairmont. Saw on Hockey Hub that they had 7 different players score...that's big(even playing against Fairmont). I don't think Marshall has the discipline or scoring power to get past the Eagles in this one.
I like Litchfield in the upset against Hutch 4-3 in OT! Play-off time is GREAT!
Marshall completely dominated my Cardinals last night. Congrats to Marshall and good luck against New Ulm. I was wrong to even question the schedule of Marshall they were a much more complete hockey team.
As for Corbin not sure what your talking about. Luverne's only real loses are Fitzer and Dingmann for next year. And Fitzer never once showed up for a big game 0 points in all 3 contests vs Marshall.
They will return Meyer in the Net who should hopefully continue to mature and get better in the nets he still has 3 years in front of him.
They also return 2 full lines (one which includes two 30 pt scorers as sophomores). Their Top line of A Bantams will move up next year.
Also return their best overall player on the blue line in Maxwell who will still only be a Junior next year. Also, they have two really nice defenseman at A Bantams coming up to fill in spots.
I look for Luverne to only keep improving over the next few years.
But they were soundly beat last night and hats off to Marshall as we move forward.
BuffaloRidge- if hockey hub is right Luverne loses Fitzer 64pts, swier 38pts, Dingman 32 pts and Christenson with 30. dont want to be hard on fitzer i'm sure he had a target on him the minute he stepped on the ice.
meyer has some things to work on. it doesnt look like he did that well against some of the teams that were a bit stronger
Corbin, I really don't want to get into this with you. It is obvious you are not from Luverne.
First of Christensen is a Junior he will back 30 pts. Hoffman 21 pts. is a Junior too. Along with Junior Skattum 16 pts.
Wenninger 35 pts., Solma 33 pts. were only Sophomores this year Frankenhoff a freshman had 18 pts.
On D they return Sophmore Maxwell 21 pts. Sophomore Sterrett 10 pts and Junior Dinger 9 pts.
I am not trying to rip on Fitzer but 34 pts. of 64 pts. came in 6 games against Worthington, Fairmont, Sleepy Eye. And Swier was the main assist guy on those nights. Just being honest watching the games against the better teams he didnt really stand out.
They will miss those three seniors no doubt but I dont look for them to drop off that bad I guess....
Of course Meyer would struggle against better teams he is Freshman he will grow and mature.
Like I said its obvious your not from Luverne and thats fine I firmly believe Luverne is only going to get better as the years go on. In a couple years we will see if I am correct.
As of now they were not close to the top 4 programs.
I will stop talking about Luverne and focus on the programs that are still playing.
Should be fun tomorrow for those teams and communities good luck to all!!

New Ulm-3 Marshall-1
Eagles end it with a empty netter by Peterson with 30 seconds left. Juntenen played a great game along with both net minders, game could have been alot higher scoring if not for some great saves by andy noble. I was really impressed with him this year and in this game
Well boys and benders, looks like itll be the eagles and the dragons battling out for the section title. lets get this going i wanna here what you have to say about it
I think Litchfield will take this game. They have played tough openents all year in there confrence...they are a hard working team....have a solid D core.....I think impola will come up big for them this game and help them pull off the victory...I got litchfield 5-3
Juntenen has a good shot. Otherwise he is a joke. If I was from New Ulm I'd be ashamed to have him on my team. I've seen him play 4 times and each time he displayed an incredible lack of sportsmanship. In the section semi-final game after New Ulm scored an empty net goal he skated to the Marshall student section and mimicked sexual gestures to the student section.
Should be a really fun game to watch. LDC has a great defense and the best player in the section in Quinn Impola. Can he and his D-core limit chances of the high octane New Ulm offense. New Ulm has great speed and will be flying if they got clean looks at the Dragons goalie it will not be good.
However, I am not on here to bash kids but New Ulm doesn't have the most discipline in the world. They did show poor sportsmanship on Saturday. If New Ulm is down late how will they handle it. Can they stay clam cool and collected.
The X-Factor is Burgau in the nets. The kid has played every game since he was a Sophomore. This is his last chance to get the big stage one last time.I really think he comes up big when it matters the most.
Should be a fun game I will take New Ulm repeating as Section Champs.
Been a very fun year either team that wins I hope can represent Section 3A well so we can keep this section. SW MN Deserves to have a team in state that is why they call it a true sate tournament. It will mean so much to whatever town advances that what this is really about community. Thats why Class A was created to grow hockey in smaller communities (Not to let private schools buy championships) and this section is growing hockey in an area of the state that even 10 years ago half these teams didn't exist. Give it time.

If you only knew what actually goes on down the ice ping. Everybody trash talks it's just how hockey is. Yes it's true juntunen may show it a little more than other players but everybody does it. And I believe he pointed at the score board with his stick after the Marshall student section had been on him all day. Last time I checked that wasn't a sexual gesture
Proud to have him on our team and be one of his friends. This eagles squad has alot of chemistry and flow going for them witch is the toughest part about this team. Love them or hate them you have to respect them when they step out on the ice because they can play with the best of the best and they proved that when they beat eau Claire memorial who I believe is 25-1 now and ranked in the top ten in the nation. Don't doubt this team, new Ulm 5
Litch 2
I think the x-factor is Litch's tender. If he plays like he did against Hutch and NU puts up 30+ shots, I think the eagles could score 5 goals. I Also think Impola can't take 8 minute shifts in this game. Good player, but you can't stay out there that long.
But back with Juntanen, he's a good player when he wants to be. He brings his team up but can bring them down at the same time.
Also another thing that bothers me watching games is that when NU and Litch are doing there chant around the net before the game starts, is that both Juntanen and Impola are skating around by themselves. Grow up and don't single yourself out![/img]
Didn't seem like the Student Section could have been on him that much all day... I wasn't sitting close to the student section though, so maybe they were and it was quiet enough you couldn't hear it around the rink. And maybe with his stick hand he was pointing at the scoreboard, but the hand without the stick was doing something very different-something that he should only be doing by himself at home.
I respect teams that play classy...whether they win or lose.
