Their is like a 120 girls on this "team?" Can't be too many missed. Saw Warroad play a few times and Sylvester did not impress me that much as compared to some of Warroads other top players.
Yeah.. Honorable Mention has over 100 girls listed. Pioneer Press has no clue!!
Thats around 7 full teams, plus .....that have All State Honorable Mention..All State caliber players or close to it.. We could have 10 D1 teams out of Minnesota then and should be able to beat everyone...Cause every girl that comes from Minnesota is incredible!!

Kids are nominated for All-State by their coaches. Looking at this list it seems to me every kid nominated was included. Fortunately, some coaches show restraint and don't nominate a player unless they truly believe that they are All-State caliber...read that as being one of the top 15-20 players in the state.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who thought the honorable mention list was a bit long. Its almost to the point where you should be offended if you are not on it.
Not to single anyone out, but how does the back up goalie for tonka make all state h.m. She is a great goalie, but didn't play too many games. I think friend had 20 wins.
20 points and you to can make the all-state list. Kinda like no child left behind. LOL

Abby Ness not making the honorable mention list has to mean her coach did not nominate her. She was a ms hockey top ten a member of the U18 gold medal winning team and a awesome high school player but I guess she also played second line, did not start any games and was not a part of the rams power play unit.

IMO the only All State team that should matter is the one that will be announced at the Miss Hockey Banquet this weekend. That one is voted on by the coaches. NOT the ill informed people of the media who pay no more attention to the games than the stats that lie in front of them. Not to downgrade these girls for the honor of being selected to this team too. Still a nice recognition they can be proud of and congrats to all on a great year.Silent But Deadly wrote:How about Greer Vogel, Edina and Allie Olson, North Wright County....Olson carries that team.....SuperStar wrote:Just curious, but how do 3 Juniors make the 1st team over a loaded senior class of talent? I didn't see anyone else from Roseau on the HM list so it looks like her coach failed to nominate any of his (or her) players, including Ness. Either this was intentional or the coach just neglected (forgot?) to turn the nominations in. As for why the coach would not play someone of Ness's caliber on the first line...assuming that's true of course...what can you say other than it's just strange.Cobber wrote:Abby Ness not making the honorable mention list has to mean her coach did not nominate her. However the team's stats do indicate that she played on the power play unit! She must have because she scored 6 power play goals, twice as many as anyone else, despite missing 5 games with the U18 national team:

I wish I knew how this specific list was put together. I've been out of the game coaching wise for a few years now and I can't even remember how it was done a few years ago. I can remember being called by the pioneer press one year but that was in the early 2000's. I know the Pioneer Press didn't always get it right in my eyes.
I know that the Star Tribune would send out a "survey" to all HS coaches - or maybe it only went to all metro area HS coaches. I picked this up out of my mailbox at the HS, you'd fill it out and mail/fax/email/etc. it back. Not everyone did this, but it wasn't only asking about your team. It asked about who you thought were the top players in the game, etc.
The "AP" list was the one that I never understood. Media throughout the state had a rather unusual list some years. Not sure if this was much better than the Pioneer Press list.
As someone said before, the likely most accurate list is the MGHCA (Girls Coaches Assn) list. I believe they divide this by Class and announce it near the end of the tourney. Many coaches work hard to help select this list.

I wouldn't put too much stake into this Pioneer Press All State Team. They obviously don't put a lot of time or effort into picking this team. Many very good hockey players not on the list, players that are going D1, players that are on very good teams that have excellent stats, players that truly deserve to be on the list. I also wouldn't blame the coaches for not nominating players either, since we don't know exactly how they pick them or how many they get to nominate!!

I haven't seen any Warroad games this year besides the one that was just shown on tv so I'm not sure if this has been the case all year. But the reason why Karley may not have been as impressive is because I noticed that Izzy seems to have put the Marvin sisters with Kayla Gardner (all D1 recruits to UND) together on the first line while Sylvester centers the second line with some fine players, but not D1 caliber players like Layla plays with. What a shameless @$$. I'm willing to bet if she committed to UND she would still be fist line.Red Ice wrote:hockeya1a wrote:Agree completely! so many good girls missed! players and goalies.Silent But Deadly wrote: How about Greer Vogel, Edina and Allie Olson, North Wright County....Olson carries that team.....

It's pretty interesting looking at the score sheets when we played Warroad during the 12u and 14u days with this same group of kids. Warroad was getting their @$$e$ handed to them every game and there are only about 6 of those same kids still playing. Hmmmmmmm....... Wonder where all those other kids came from??????
