Post by east hockey »

By request:

"I am wondering if you can make a post that announces that Blaine HS will be retiring Matt Hendricks jersey #10 on Saturday night prior to our game with Centennial. We are working on getting the word out to as many sources as possible."

Also Romfo and Frischmon? That 2000 team was a special one.....

It's starting to feel like you're walking into a museum at Fogerty. Pretty cool!

Congrats Matt. However, Brandon deserves it as well.

I will be at that game for sure. I didn't know they were going to retire Hendrick's number though. Thanks for the info! Is he planning on being there for it? I see they (Caps) are not scheduled for a game that night.

Really cool for Matt and well deserved but not even Broten's number is retired for the Rams... I think it is a little absurd to be retiring numbers for high school hockey.

Just re-signed with the Capitals today. The contract is 2 years for 1.6 million. (800K per year)

Great for him. He paid his dues and found a roll that keeps him in the NHL.

Hes become a fan favorite in Washington this year with the way he plays. Wont score a bunch but chips in a goal and an assist now and then and brings that physical presence in his hits and ability to drop the gloves.

Looking back to WCHA hockey, Bochenski was a much better player and pure goal scorer, but he is no longer in the NHL. Both great players. And having an in with the Blaine folk, apparently it was Hendricks' mom that was pushing for the jersey retirement.

Hendricks is a great player but Bochenski is a better person. Once, just after high school i met him at WalMart and he gave me five crisp, brand new twenty dollar bills. Just handed em to me. What a guy!

I'm afraid not, I know many of the Blaine players and parents well and it was said by one of the coaches that it was his mom pushing for it, not a jealous parent of someone who graduated 11-12 years before their kid...

I'm sure that with the shrine they have for David Backes it was brought up. In no way did she lead a charge to have it done.

Played with both of these guys... I have to completely disagree. Matt was overall a better player. Brandon had better stats but his skating was always his downfall. But no doubt, he flat out found ways to score. Matt was bigger, stronger, and a better skater. he didn't have the stats in college that Brandon did, but his longevity speaks to his talents. How many 29 year olds do you hear breaking into the NHL now a days? he paid his dues, and has earned his payday!

Neither player should even be mentioned along with Minnesota's greatest. It shows that the Blaine program is far from a dynasty to be retiring a below average NHL players number. Just think if Matt played for an Edina, Grand Rapids, or Rosoeu, etc... He'd be one of 20 alumni to play in the show. Matt isn't even one of the top MN players in the NHL. In fact, he's probably one of the worst.

Nothing against Matt... But the people of Blaine need a legitimate home town hero.
