HM has no class
I don't care how good HM is OR how bad Como is, there is just no denying that it is poor sportsmanship to run the score up to 17-0!
The kids know this, the parents know this, I just don't know why the HM coaches don't know this.
Of course HM isn't getting anything out of playing a team like Como, so why not use this opportunity to demonstrate some good sportsmanship--start the back-up goalie and the 4th line---pass 5 times before you shoot--don't shoot--I don't care....there is no need to humiliate another team like that.
BUT NO, the coaches (not the kids) run the score up to 17 and portray their players as spoiled rich kids.

Re: HM has no class
It could've been A LOT worse. Como Park is absolutely terrible this year. It was 15-0 after two.MN93 wrote:I don't care how good HM is OR how bad Como is, there is just no denying that it is poor sportsmanship to run the score up to 17-0!

This isn't November, it's late February. I have no problem with rolling four lines throughout the third period. I'm not going to question Bill Lechner's integrity even for a second.Django wrote:Lavalle got an assist with a few minutes to go in the game.
He's first line. Hill was playing it's top line while up 16-0.

I guess this was the only blowout of sections.
1 vs 8 sometimes produce these mismatches. Sometimes the team on the losing end just gives up. What's the winning team suppose to do, throw in the towel as well? Please tell me people didn't expect this game to be any closer. Breck beat Como 12-2 & 13-0 and HM destroyed Breck. It was gonna be ugly folks...and it could have been a whole lot worse. Time to concentrate on the semis.

Como - HM
What score would make you happy, MN93 ? 5-0 ? 10-0 ? When the score is 5-0 five minutes into the game, what is HM supposed to do for the next 46 minutes? The 4th line can't play the whole game. Even if they could HM would score 10 more goals. Should they skate in circles and play keepaway? Never shoot? Both of those would embarrass Como even more. As it is, they only scored once in the 3rd period. Unfortunately this is varsity hockey where they keep score.

Just for the record django, LaValle is not first line, he's second. The first line is Bahe, Bruski and Guentzel. Anyone who was at the game and saw the third period could see that Hill was making little or no effort to score. The goal was a soft flip from the point man that went in.

It's laughable to defend a 17-0 score. And again, I don't fault the players whatsoever, they are kids and do what they are told.
BELIEVE ME, I'm no St. Thomas fan, but in their game vs. Simley their first line didn't even come out of the locker room after the first period; maybe just a symbolic gesture, but to me that shows some class-- they won 9-0 and everyone knows it could have been 20-0.

Good gesture..."Hey Simley, you're so bad, were not even going to bring our entire team out to play you and we'll still win handIly. Boy wish we could have brought the JV."MN93 wrote:It's laughable to defend a 17-0 score. And again, I don't fault the players whatsoever, they are kids and do what they are told.

When the CDH football team gets up by 40 pts, the starters come out and never return. When the Hopkins basketball team gets up by 40, the starters will still be playing. My point is that some coaches handle the lopsided games with more grace than others. I would have liked to see the 3rd and 4th lines play the whole 3rd period. The first 2 lines get plenty of ice time. Give your subs more playing time when you can afford to.
