As HS players I would have to add Gino Guyer to the list from the 2000's, and i'm sure i'm in the minority but I would also have Aaron Ness towards the top of the list.TheSiouxSuck wrote:If I recall he had a team leading 67 points when Jefferson went 28-0 in 93. I go back to the late 80's and yes we have had some phenomnal players, but to me none stand out as much as Mike Crowley did. The guy was in complete control of every game. Without him maybe Moorhead wins 2 or 3 state championships.
From the 00's probably have to consider TJ Oshie, Blake Wheeler, Matt Niskanen, Alex Stalock, Jake Gardiner, Brian Lee, Paul Martin, Keith Ballard, Alex Goligoski, and finally, just because I feel cheated for not including him, Zach Parise (yes I'm aware he played at Shattuck).

The problem that I have with having Ness on the list was that he was only elite for two years, his sophomore year when Roso won state and his senior year. His freshman year he was also very good and you could tell he would be special but with him accelerating to get to the Gophers earlier we missed a yeah of watching him play high school puck. Had he not left early than I have no doubt that he would be right up there with Oshie. He may not be a great college player right now or be a great pro, but in high school he was truly dominant.DubCHAGuy wrote:As HS players I would have to add Gino Guyer to the list from the 2000's, and i'm sure i'm in the minority but I would also have Aaron Ness towards the top of the list.TheSiouxSuck wrote:If I recall he had a team leading 67 points when Jefferson went 28-0 in 93. Anyway, his name has come up a few times but for the 60's I would have to say Henry Boucha
I would take Broten over Housley as best ever. Broten is a winner, Housley is a loser. Although a great player technically, his teams never win anything.mulefarm wrote:Housley goes from SSP to Buffalo after hs and is not the player of his decade? He is easly the best hs player of all time and best Mn player of all time.
Well if we are just talking about them as HS Players here, neither won a championship. Both played in 2 state tournaments I believe, and both took 3rd place and lost in the consolation final in their 2 appearances.WB6162 wrote:I would take Broten over Housley as best ever. Right on. Crowley played with, according to everyone from Bloomington, the greatest team in the history of Minnesota hockey. You couldn't just focus on him or teams would have. No doubt if the entire roster had been picked less one open position and coach Saterdalen had to fill out the roster, he would have been picking Matt Cullen over Mike Crowley. Of course, coach, if you are one of these aliases on this forum, you will deny it, but I know better.keepyourheadup wrote:No disrespect to Crowley here, he was an absolute joy to watch. Lets not forget he had a hell of a supporting cast with him. I watched every game the year Cullen was a senior and he was hands down the best forward in the tourney...and it wasn't close! The fact he makes millions playing hockey now is no accident. To say he wasn't close to Crowley is likely due to the fact we didn't get to see as much of him. His career speaks for itself.....for crying out loud the kid was a huge part of winning the cup.
Check out my post on a previous page . . .keepyourheadup wrote:No kidding..forgot about Pavelich..as good as anyone in his day.

The '75 Eveleth team with Pavelich and Dave Delich went into the Region 7 tournament as a co-favorite with Virginia and Bah Harrington and Dave Joelson, only to be bested by Grand Rapids with Dan Lempe, John Rothstein, Erin Roth, Chocolate Clafton, Bill Baker and others. Those were 3 awesome teams, as indicated by the amount of talent just with those names I can remember.
It's to bad Cullen had to play with a bunch of stiffs at Moorhead. I'm sure the 94-95 teams didn't have any good hockey players.whos_it wrote:Right on.
