Now my thoughts on this game before I head down to the X!
I think Duluth East has alot of simularities to Hill Murray. They have alot of depth, speed, well coached, and both have senior goaltenders with alot of big games under their belts.
WBL even though they outshot Duluth East in their earlier meeting, really didn't play that well against them. They gave up at least 10+ odd man rushes in that game
. Yes, Schletty didn't play in that game, but I thought the quality of chances and play then favored the Hounds.
Since then, the WBL defense has been much improved. The younger defensemen have been playing much better, and the penalty kill and the amount of penalties taken as a whole has cut down. They are coming off two big momentum wins, and have been playing well not only in their last two games, but pretty much since after the Christmas tournament with just one loss over that time.
Now this game is going to be very difficult for the Bears. I expect them to play with the same kind of energy they did last Friday, but alot of things went right in that game with the quick opening goal and good bounces. I can only hope they have some of that simular puck luck today, but will have to play their best game again of the season, and execute the game plan! I'm going with my heart on my prediction today, because this Bears team has shown me plenty of it!
Bears-5
Hounds-4 OT

WBL has filled 5 sections of the upper deck. Incredible. The East crowd is bigger than it was last year, too. Great atmosphere for the first game. Teams just took the ice, and I'm a bundle of nerves. Here we go...

Nice first period..
I must say...... this may have been the best I have seen the WBL defense play in 2 years. Very solid. A couple of odd-man rushes thwarted.
East, though, by the end of the period, started getting a step on the WBL backcheckers.. Had Schletty beat on the one that hit the post, but his greatest strength is his angles with his size... He's tough to beat. Need to get Schletty moving East-West..
Both teams look like the puck is on the stick too long, allowing D to block shots... Randolph looked like he could have snapped one off on a rush, but held on too long.. For WBL, both Jansen and Wahlin are getting around the D with some rushes, but East is doing a great job in forcing them wide and deep, not allowing them to cut back in front of the net.
I give East a very slight edge in the period, as they looked to start playing better after the penalty was killed, but they better stay out of the box.. WBL moved the puck great on the PP, and Birkinbine doesn't miss too often when in close.
