Mario Lucia

I don't know if this has been mentioned but does anyone else find it strange that he hasn't committed to the Gophers yet? Could this mean the Don might not be around much longer? [-o<

I hate to say it... but the problems are deeper then Don. So don't expect much to change if he is "let go" (or if he steps down on his own.)

This was intended to be more about Mario than his old man; it just seems hard to believe that he would go anywhere other than Minnesota but I guess crazier things have happened. I do somewhat agree with you though; John Hill is the biggest problem on the coaching staff but that is neither here nor there.

Just to look at things in a different way...

He's a good player; however, even though his father is a coach of the Rodents, it doesn't mean he'll be committing to the U.

For example: Mike Guentzel (was the D coach for the U) and Ryan Guentzel

*I know Ryan wasn't the same caliber as Mario is in his High School career; however, it can happen. But do you see what I am saying?

Plus he is currently a junior and the season just ended. College talk on where he's going will soon come.

Chances are if the Don remains the head coach of the Rodents, Mario will be a Rodent.

It would be the best chance for Mario to get on a #1 PP as a Freshman!

I hope he does not play for his Dad. It has to be a different experience for players when coaches kid is in the locker room. I would imagine players somewhat walking on eggshells.

Don't bitch about coaches because it may get back and effect playing time.

Lucia will be back at coach. It seems like that is a lock whether we like it or not. Hopefully he gets rid of Hill though.

Indeed.

I can see another Lucia in Maroon and Gold; hopefully better than the last one for the team's sake.

If he wants to play in the NHL, he should go to UND. Won't develop at the U.

Actually, Tony developed into a pretty good WCHA player. Probably shouldn't have played as much his fr and soph years, but was a bright spot his last 2 yrs.

Looks like Don will be back for one more year, maybe two. Beyond that who knows, but if I had to bet my own $$ it would be on a coaching change, either after next season or the year after. With their present squad and coaching staff there will not be enough of a turnaround to prevent it.

You would think that if Mario was going to be a Gopher he would have announced his verbal commitment by now. Personally I don't believe it would be in his best interest to go to Minnesota, and it's not because he wouldn't "develop". I'd love to see him play here but all things considered I don't see it happening...but I hope I'm wrong because he's exactly the kind of player the Gophers could really use.

I've heard (from a pretty reliable source) that Mario is headed to Notre Dame. I'm not 100% on this, but I'm pretty confident in my source.

Can't believe he would want ot play in the CCHA, especially with Michigan and M State leaving. Many old arenas and a lot ower attendance than the WCHA.

true that the hockey experience may not be the same, but the education is second to none.

If he goes in the first round, he won't finish his four years, unless he really plateau's off.

The NHL is ALL about size nowadays, and Mario has it. He's a lock to play in the show. Size and skill together, a great NHL combo.

He's got most of the bases covered but.....he's going to need to improve his skating a great deal to be a lock for the show.
