Regional wins vs. Wayzata, Edina and Wayzata along with a loss to Wayazata to qualify for #2 seed to State.

Big doings for STMA - 1st boys team ever to make it to the big dance.

Congrats boys!
Easy on the 'giant killers' comment. Wayzata Navy was a decent team. They made regions due to easy district playoff. Wayzata Gold (#1) lost to Wayzata Blue in districts...both of whom would beat STMA handily. And the 2 Edina teams were also decent or OK, not exactly on the same caliber as last years 2 B-1 teams. However, with that said congrats to STMA on the 1st ever state tournament appearance for the association. Have fun. Prediaction-Wayzata Blue takes state.

STMA over Centennial in Championship
Walker over Rosemount for third
Stillwater Red Consolation

Blue is a nice team but they don't have the goaltending to hold up.

I routing for the team that couldn't get out of District 3 (I know you were just kidding). Nice story for an association with 50 skaters and two goalies. Come on everyone - jump on the bandwagon!

STMA is a solid team but no where near the level of Blue or Stillwater Red.

STMA vs Stillwater Red up north at Roseau was a "very" lopsided game, mainly due to Stillwater is just flat out faster then them.

Wayzata Blue vs STMA on Sunday was also a "very" lopsided game. Again I credit the big win to Blue being a much faster team.

Walker would be a great story, however I just don't see that happening.

Look for Wayzata Blue to bring home their 1st State Championship.

If that's your logic - LET'S GO ICEWOLVES! They only have 18 kids playing PeeWee's. Let's jump on that bandwagon! By the way, how many kids use wood sticks in Walker vs STMA? Do you know Woodstickguy? I like a good underdog too but I don't see it here. Congrats to all the teams who made it this far no matter the situation. The kids will have great memories to look back on.

I'd be for Walker taking it all. That would be a made for TV movie waiting to happen.

Obviously the smaller associations are long shots but let them have a couple weeks of dreamin' big!!!

I wouldn't overlook Centennial, they gave Stillwater all they could handle in Anoka, very solid D as well as beat a tough Chisago team to get here. Wayzata gets bounced in round 1 and takes the consolation!

Stillwater has a tough road through STMA and Rosemount but they make it through at home.

I would say it is an all east final. Stillwater and Centennial again just like regions. It is a toss up but I say the Ponies take home the championship at home in Stillwater. That would be a nice story actually I am not sure if the ponies have ever won State at any level in boys hockey! Bjugstads team (I believe they are all first year pee wees) has the most skill and depth I have seen all year. Maybe they will make another run at the A level next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Walker beats Woodbury, they are there through the weak south region. Rosemount in a walk in game one but they don't get past the Semi's

Snoop I checked with the Walker team and two kids are using birch branches for sticks, one has a 2x4 from his dad's fish house and one is using a broken handle from a rake so it looks like 4 in total are using wood sticks.

Just messing with you Walker - I wish you the best of luck in the tourney - Enjoy the ride!

Hilarious - I hope the kid gives the 2X4 back to dad after the season. It would be a shame to ruin a perfectly good fish house. By the way, I already have plans to stay at Chase on The Lake this summer. Walker is a great place to stay!

Predictions

Friday
Stillwater 5
STMA 3

Rosemount 7
Park Rapids 3

Wayzata 4 2OT
Centennial 3

Walker 5
Woodbury 2

Saturday
Stillwater 4
Rosemount 3

Wayzata 6
Walker 2

Championship
Stillwater 5 OT
Wayzata 4

I am really unsure about the outcome of Wayzata and Centennial. I have never seen Walker or Park Rapids so my predictions may not even be close. It should be a good weekend of hockey in the birthplace of Minnesota (Stillwater).

Hard to argue with those predictions. I think the four best teams are playing each other in the first round. The four horse race will be narrowed to two after Friday and the unfortunate two will have to fight for the consolation. Maybe someone else will jump up and surprise everyone - I hope that happens but I don't know enough about them either to make that prediction. Should be a fun weekend for the boys win or loose.

Snoopdog I like your predictions. I think the only way a team will be able to beat Wayzata is if they are big and strong. That's a pretty quick team with some good size. Need to slow them down and frustrate them.

From regional view point the two teams that played them Edina Green and New Prague had the best shot at beating them. Reasons they didn't and reasons they could.

Edina Green - very good speed, excellent goaltending however don't have any true goal scorers.

New Prague - Big and strong and have two kids that can put the puck in from anywhere, biggest problem is they run out of gas and can be lazy at times. Also goaltending is fairly week.

Out of all of those teams at state, I see Stillwater having the most potential to distrupt them, then again there are a couple teams i have not seen play.

Two best B1 teams I saw all year were Wayzata Blue and Gold. Wayzata had their way with Edina this year. No dominate team this year, but those teams were very solid. Neither one was as good as the 2009-2010 Edina B1 teams though.

I believe the shots were 40-17 or something. Wayzata looked very strong. Good size and fast. This is the team to beat in the tournament as far as I'm concerned. They took away the will of Centennial right from the start. Stillwater and Rosemount should be a very even game. each play very similar styles. By the way, Walker Leech/Lake had a player #23 that may be the best B1 Peewee in the state. He played defense but it seemed like he could score at anytime if he wanted to. Most of the time he would share the puck with his linemates. He looked like a Bantam playing Peewee's to me. I swore I saw some facial hair. It should be an interesting Saturday.

Walker lost to Woodbury White. I didn't see the score. Walker was up 2-1 after one when I left. They were not real deep but had a great player and a few others that played well. They were very big - I'm guessing mostly 2nd year players.

Walker lost 7-3 to Woodbury. Besides maybe a D and one forward, they were not very good. Was rooting for them but just wasn't going to happen. That's what happens when you come down and face metro teams
Did somebody say they needed a Towel ??

Wow - what a day. Stillwater and Rosemount was a very good game. This game could have went either way. I thought Stillwater was the better team from the 2nd half on. The story line in this game was the unbelievable cocky play of the Rosemount goalie. I don't like to single out players on the forum but his kid was a real beauty. I hope the parents and coaches aren't real proud of this kid behavior. He was about 6 ft tall as a peewee and very solid in the net. The issue was his cockiness was about 12 ft tall. This kid made obscene gestures to everyone (including fans) during idle play. I never thought I would say this but I hope Wayzata lights this kid up on Sunday. Shoot sticksidelow or make the kid move laterally and you will have success. Sorry Rosemount faithfull, but get your goalie in line to gain our respect. He is a nice goalie but no need to be a jack a__.
