MN advanced 16's
How is the showing from the Minnesota boys this year? I know the '95 class is pretty deep.

Fantastic showing. At least four kids in the NDTP and another five more on the Five Nations Tournament team... seriously deep birthyear.hockeybender20 wrote:How is the showing from the Minnesota boys this year? I know the '95 class is pretty deep.

Not taking anything away from the 95's. But they have a handful of first tier "superstars". However after that it fades. The 94's are a lot deeper. The Exiled One wrote:Fantastic showing. Not yet, but a little birdie told me Brodzinski, Gross, Labowsky, Lettieri, and Raskob.hockeybender20 wrote:who are the kids that made it? Roter posted? The Exiled One wrote:Fantastic showing. Totally disagree. The 95's who went out into New York would give the 94's a run for their money. The Best in the Bizz3 wrote:Not taking anything away from the 95's. New York camp is great chance for exposure for the kids from mn that get to go, but from a hockey perspective, it's almost a joke. The level of play is definitely down a few notches from the 54's and a couple from the section tournament. 50% or more of the kids from other states wouldn't even make the section teams in MN. Yeah, there are some good players from other hockey states, but MN should be sending 50 kids to this camp, or at least twice what they do now.
Congrats to the 5 Minnesota players. All outstanding players.
I seem to remember they give this tourney opportunity to players not selected for the U17 NTDP team.
Five Nations Tourney is August 9-13 in Ann Arbor.
Correct. It would be interesting to see how this team would do versus the team selected for the NTDP team!

I don't know how many of the camps you have been to but the Minnesota kids don't dominate by any stretch. At least not in the seven that I have been to In fact, they are pretty average compared to the rest of the country.cookiejar wrote:New York camp is great chance for exposure for the kids from mn that get to go, but from a hockey perspective, it's almost a joke. I guess yours is bigger than mine. I've only been to two (soon three). Dominate is a funny word. You could cut the bottom 50 kids from the 16's camp and not one of them would have been from MN. I stand by what I said before - MN should be sending at least twice as many kids to these camps. Better hockey gets played at the section tournament.longrebound wrote:I don't know how many of the camps you have been to but the Minnesota kids don't dominate by any stretch. I would have to agree. I can understand an argument saying that the very top players in other states are comparable to the very top MN players, but MN has many more top players number wise. While another state may be able to field an all star team that could compete with a MN all star team, MN could field 3-4 of the same quality (Similar to the final 54 process)cookiejar wrote:I guess yours is bigger than mine. I've said it before, but I'll say it again... Minnesota SHOULD have more. We have five times the kids to choose from...dumbpuck wrote:5 kids from Minnesota made the NDTP team and a different 5 made the Five nations team. If Minnesota doesn't dominate then who does? Sounds like possibly 6 now for NTDP?
Also...I guarantee that the NTDP is choosing MN kids over other equally talented kids from other states these days. In the past, they have struggled to get MN kids to leave MN high school hockey, so they haven't tried very hard to recruit in the past several years - they always seem to lose. However, in the past two years, they are seeing more and more kids leaving to play in the NAHL, the USHL and the NTDP. This is the NTDP's prime chance right now... if they continue to get some kids to leave now, it opens up the possibility that more will leave in the future. So... when they have a "real gem", it won't be so hard to recruit them.
I guarantee this is why they are all over Minnesota kids right now...

Though true, it is a bit misleading when looking at the elite player. Minnesota has more average and less skilled players participating since they are not weeded out at a young age due to the current system. Kids can play B/C hockey through high school without a substantial financial burden, so more stay involved. In many areas, parents stop writing the checks when Johnny makes PW AA or A instead of AAA due to the substantial investment.I've said it before, but I'll say it again... Minnesota SHOULD have more. We have five times the kids to choose from...
We should have more high end players, and I think we will see more 2006 NHL drafts in our future when all the kids that got the opportunity to play competitive summer hockey come of age. I think that is why we are seeing more kids go NTDP and USHL now than in years past.
