Thought your teams represented very well, beating or holding your own against teams that are exactly the definition of what is wrong with USA/AAA hockey. Flying all stars in at the 8-14 year old level to play real teams, just so that you can win by 8-10 goals a game serves NO PURPOSE other than feeding some egos and wallets. The fact that Machine beat a couple of these National All Star teams was a terrific win for people that really love the sport and would love to see some sanity brought to it. The guy that runs this thing is a great marketer, but he is absolutely willing to ruin fair and competitive play just to serve his own purposes. I hope that you are all able to hold on to the terrific system that has served you so well.
At the 99 level Little Cesars team WAS their winter team. Machine and Blades Played them tough and knocked them out of the tourney. The Little Ceasar team was Ranked #1 Nationally for the winter season. This is why the Machine and Blades play in these tournaments Props to them for competing and showing the rest of the hockey world that Minnesota has the best of both worlds. Strong Spring AAA and great Association Hockey. The model should not be messed with!!!
now Im not apposed to taking on nutbag parents from any team that think this or that team is Dominant or MY kid is better than your kid . I will wait your reply.
One question i would pose, since the brick expanded the number of teams why wasn`t the machine included.
If anyone looks at what is going on with this tournament you can see they are not looking for either "blades" or "machine". They want the best kids that want to go. Look at Vancouver. The Vipers won it when the 97's went and now they are the BC Canuks! Chicago is now the jr. Blackhawks, Detroit Honeybaked went to the championship 2 years in a row now they go as the Red Wings. They want Minnesota to go as Team Minnesota period (Or the Jr. Wild)! The Blackhawks do it and Savard coaches them because he is paid by the Blackhawks. This is part of their marketing...that is what the Brick wants the tie to the NHL (at least that is what is seems to me viewing it from the outside)
Neither group is doing themselves any favors by being exclusive. Bernies best chance at ever going is to go with the Blades as team minnesota, they will not give it to the Machine to go as the Machine...and by the way I have seen both the 01 teams play and the Machine are no better than the Blades at this age group so to expect any better outcome would be rediculous.
Finally they would never let two go from Minnesota, two from Toronto (yes the largest true hockey city in North America where every kid plays hockey, they can support it) not two from Minnesota...if they cannot get two from Alberta (Edmonton and Calgary what would make you think they would have two from Minnesota)?
If you look at the blades last years team (00's) did not compete and the machine would have competed at a higher level for sure. This years team had 5 one goal games in the 3rd period and shots were even or in the blades favor 5 or 6 games. They went for the win instead of a tie and it cost them a loss (empty netter). I am sure that was pretty deflating and didn't help in the games to follow. I would guess that is what the Brick Brass are looking for, teams that can compete and are truly supportive of the Brick mission. The fact is the Blades are the last US team to compete in a championship game up there and the 99's were tied for 2nd in their pool and lost the tie breaker. Not many groups over the past 5 years has been consistently better.
No matter who goes we will struggle a little on D as the others have suggested, it is not in our model to put our best players at D as first year squirts and the Canadians do that and that is why they win.
Obviously it gets so much discussion it is a once in a lifetime tourney. With the exception of the quebec pee wee tourney there is nothing like it. Lets get it together boys! It sure would be nice to put our 15 best that have the means and want to go up there.

If we're gonna beat that horse, then let's beat it. Aother poster on this thread has suggested you have to combine programs to put the best team together to compete at the Brick. Blades have tried to bring in players the last couple of years to be "tournament players" and they have a couple of last place finishes to show for it. You don't have to scrounge players from mulitple teams to compete against and beat teams that compete in the Brick. Last year's 00 Machine team is proof of that. Roster a group of kids, train them and then go compete. Teach the kids that hockey is a 2-way sport, which includes forwards that understand there are two ends to a hockey rink. Forget trying to "blend" the Machine and Blades. The Blades have the charter to play in the Brick and that's the way it is. Someone also posted that the teams aren't together long enough this early to truly comepte. Wrong again. The 03 Orange is basically picked, as they had teams in Winnipeg this year, which will be whittled down to form next year's team, and you would think that Blades and Co. would be on about the same timeline. Plenty of time to get the team ready for what many refer to as "the best youth hockey tournament in North Amercia", although that is not my opinion. It's obvious the Blades need to do a better job of shoring up in their own zone, at least that's what the stats bare out over the last 3 years in Edmonton. The Blades and Machine the last couple of years haven't had trouble attracking kids to their program that can play with the puck in the offensive zone. The difference in the programs has been what those kids have been able to do in their own zone.
I repeat.
You are correct. You just read on these boards almost on a daily basis that none of this matters because the kids are only 10; or they're only 11 or they are only 12 or that it doesn't really matter until they are 15 or older. The problem is a lot of these kids will be out of hockey by the time they hit 15 yrs old, so I don't understand why some have a problem if the kids and families enjoy the moment instead of waiting for a moment that may never come.
It is unfortunate that, by nature, this board seems to bring out negativity. People should be proud of their accomplishments. Another example of this is how when people speak positive about accomplishments they often accompany it by having to bring down another team or experience. I think it takes away from the original success and seems like people are in need of attention.
Im happy for all the Minnesota teams that get to share in the experience of youth hockey. Congrats to you and your team for bringing home a ship from Winnipeg!
Also congrats to the 01' blades for competing well in a great tournament in Edmonton!
I agree 100% that you and the players should enjoy their success. A lot of hard work goes in to it and wins are a great reward. I guess I was just looking at it from a long term development point of view. I don't mean to sell your success short.Deep Breath wrote:If we're gonna beat that horse, then let's beat it. Not sure on this but are some teams sponsored?O-townClown wrote:Mack, the affordability issue is the same for almost every team, no?mackjogger wrote:So are you really getting the best MN has to offer if a bunch of top level players choose not to go and then another group of top level players cant afford to go?
