I know tryouts just ended today for the Thoroughbreds but was wondering if anyone out there knows who made the team?

Is it a hidden secret or something.... no one has any info. I'm just really curious what there team will look like this year. I've had fun in the past watching them.

Team was selected on the 21st. Players just finished putting their profiles together, so roster and profiles should be posted soon. Their first tourney is the Union tournament next week, so more info probably by then.

Is it just me or does it appear that the economy might be affecting the T-Breds ability to attract more top metro area players?

Another factor is the maturation of hockey as a girls varsity high school sport. Kids can have a great hockey experience without needing T-breads.

15 years ago, they were probably one of the few havens for elite MN girls hockey players, but when you had people like Darwitz, Wendell, Brodts & Curtins playing for their high school, and nowadays people like Ramsey, Bona, Lorence, & Crowe, who needs to seek out a club during the winter months? Plenty of time for club hockey in the off season.

As a consequence of a viable, fun varsity hockey experience (a definite POSITIVE in the state of Minnesota compared to everywhere else), club hockey in the winter has become less relevant.

I don't think the T-Breds are less relevant, and there are plenty of players who need an option, for whatever reason, from their local high school program.

The assumption is that an elite player would go to the T-Breds rather than play for their local program. While an elite level player would certainly benefit from a season in the JWHL, I think the T-Breds offer the player who aspires to be elite a better option, with an emphasis on development. They have a full roster of players, so whether they are attracting "elite" players is really moot.

Bottom line: players are going to the T-Breds, and the T-Breds are placing them in college programs. Mission accomplished.

Not sure relevant is the correct term, but I think ETS is saying that when you look at the names that were added to the roster this year, there are some average HS players that made the team. At least that is how I understood it.

I would expect they all would go on to some level of college hockey as most come to the T-breds as the top tier players from their respective HS programs. I am not saying they are always the best from each HS but usually they are near the top. If they weren't then I doubt the T-breds would be very competitive. So yes most should be going on to play either DI or DIII hockey in college. As I would expect most of the players who decide to play in the elite 1 league would also.

Speaking of moving on to the college ranks, congrats to Audra Richards, who will be taking her game to Orono, Maine and a resurgent Black Bears program under Maria Lewis.

Hux you were correct about players choosing the TBREDS as an option to develop as players and reach their goals of college hockey. The coaching, practices, and competition are at a very high level. This years team started with only three returning players and had a slow start, but have managed to close the gap on their competition.

7 wins vs 29 loses, out scored 57 -158. I see they took the overall record off the team game summary web site, looks like they do not want anyone to see this, at first glance anyway. It is what it is.
I am sure they will be able to attract good players in the future, With the high cost of travel, and time, this might be a sign of what is to come in the next few years. Who is to say the high level stated is any higher than some HS teams? Or that the players would reach their goals through their currect program anyway. Just what I heard, a few of the last players are on the team because their check cleared.

What the heck is wrong with some of you? This is high school sports. If a kid wants to go to a team like the T-breds, what right do you have to attack the group or the kids? Taking cheap shots about who does and doesn't make a team, and why is just juvenile and embarrassing. Even if it is the case, don't take shots at high school kids.

I'm not a parent of a current or past member of the T-breds or any other team like them, so this is no "don't talk about my kid" post. Just someone who is sick of people talking negatively about this program or that program like this is the NHL. Figure it out people, its an experience for kids, that's it. Not for adults to relive real or perceived past glories through them. It's not a ticket to college for 95+% of the girls that will ever play.

By closing the gap I meant they are demonstrating improvement against their competition in many areas of the game. Puck possession, quality shots on goal, winning battles in the corners,etc. All the the components which are measurable have improved.

I was not trying to offend anyone, or attacking any player or parent, just listing some stats. My comment about the check was about : I have been involved with club teams in hockey and other sports, when you are looking to fill the roster with top quality players, that is not always possible, so the term "well at least their check cleared" is sometimes said. It is just a term. I am sure many have heard it. And with the high cost of travel, expences, means that not all top quality players will even be available to join a team like this for financial reasons. That is a fact of the economy. So I said, this might a sign of the future, just a possibility. People can agree or not agree, I am sure every player on that team is trying their hardest, that is why they are there. Peace
