regardless of the situation, whether you agree or disagree with the way things have been handled, Randy Schmitz is no longer coaching in this program. whether you have a dog in the fight or not..
a couple of things are certain as this program moves forward. One, the new coach needs to make a much better connection with the youth program at Lakeville. As this board has seen.... there are numerous Lakeville postings on this forum from the youth all the way up to high school.. ( many negative) Why is this? Maybe because there is no leadership from the top; maybe there is no direction for the youth movement; maybe there are parents alike that try to help this program but are blinded by the stake that they have in their own kids. If my ideas are different than Joe over here than chaos occurs...
If there is leadership and a coach willing to take that extra initiative to become more involved in the youth program Players and coaches alike, much of the negativity can be extinguished. Quite possibly all these names that Lakeville has seen come and go from this programs might stick together to make something special in time.. The numbers are there. Lakeville has one of the largest Mite, Squirt, and Peewee programs in the state. But numbers do not mean anything if they are not being taught the proper fundamentals, skills, technique and philosophy. I guess i am going to make the analogy to Eden Prarie football.. Grant from Eden Prairie gives the youth coaches adaptive playbooks that the high school runs. It sets a mentality in these kids early that.. hey, learn the playbook, because one day u will be running these plays in high school. I guess the point that i am trying to make is take a stake in the development of these players and the feeder program to your high school.
SIMPLE. Care about the kids and maybe they will start caring about your program.

Tiger33,
For someone who has no connection to LNHS you sure have alot to say in defense of the coaching staff. WHY...do you care so much? It seems all you do is a lot of talking, for someone whom is not associated at all... with that being said you don't know as much as you think you do!!! Maybe others on this blog know a little more about the situation than you... As far as Lakeville South being one of the best teams in the state!!Ha what are you smoking? They have a few good players, not great just good.
If LNHS coaching staff were so good then they would have beat them in regular season play. LNHS beat them at the state tourney due to pure passion from the players and no fear from their coaches benching them for being physical. North was much bigger and stronger than South and were allowed by the refs to stick it to them...besides all you have to do is take Kloos out of the play and its a game changer....yea he is fast, but all you need to do is lead him.!!

I am passionate about, because I have been a coach at the youth level for my son. We live in a smaller community, but I have seen the way people act towards coaches. To be honest, its pathetic the way adults act in a hockey arena. Is it not just a game that we all enjoy? Or is it much more than that? Is it not more about life than about records?
I used to be an assistant coach at the youth level and have witnessed the way parents treat coaches at the peewee level. I have friends of friends that coach high school and hear all the team about the politics.
Thats all! By the way where did I say Lakeville south was the best team in the state. I said if Lakeville North beat them than that coach must be next.
As to my comparison of Eden Prairie and Edina it is fair to compare those. When EP won the state tourney when was the last time they won it all? and when was the last time they were there? They are team that has not done much besides the last few years. Did it take good coaching? Come on if you think that than you are smoking something. It took a group of kids to commit to each other. Look at how many top players could have gone somewhere else to make themselves better; Rath twins, Rau twins, Leddy, Molenaar, Seeler, their goalie, list goes on and on. They had pride in their program and to each other. Edina has been a top program for along time, but up until a few years ago they have also been struggling to get back to top form.
Whats the pride like in Lakeville?
I know people that know the schroeder family, there was no chance they were staying in Lakeville. No matter who the coach was.
I hope the right person is found for the job.

I agree with you in that I hope the right person gets the job! It is truly needed in Lakeville...the days of the "Good ole Boys" club is long over used. You are right about how parents and people act in a hockey rink. Now put into the equation a parent who is a high school coach!! or assistant imagine how that plays out. The point is: If the North coaching staff were so good, their may have been more parents supporting him, from the youth program up through high school.

this has no bearing on the discussion but after reading some of the posts, it might somehow fit.
Fall 2008 Elite II tryouts and practice for the south team were in Kasson outside of Rochester. People came from all over southern minnesota: Redwing, Farabault, Mankato, Owatona, New Ulm, Marshal, Redwood Falls so on and so forth. It was a long drive for all. very long drive for some. the Lakeview parents complained the most, by far.

Have to agree with what "coachrabbit" had to say. Many valid points. Tiger-no kids, and didn't play for ln. U do seem to be pretty passionate though for someone who has no skin in the game. Again, its all irrelevant, hopefully a good coaching staff comes in and gives kids a reason to stay and play for community they grew up in.

I was just informed from an inside source that Trent Eigner has been hired as the new coach at Lville North. In my opinion, not hiring Ryan Kraft is a huge mistake. He comes from a town that eat sleeps and breathes hockey (Moorhead). He knows how a program should be run. That involves not only the high school program, but the youth as well. The argument of "he has no hs hockey coaching experience" is a joke. He may not have been a head coach, but he has been working with Pro Edge Power's intense skating program for years as well as giving private lessons. His playing career should also stand for something. A 4 year gopher (and senior captain) as well as 13 years of professional hockey experience. Shouldn't this be a no brainer? Not to mention the fact that he lives in Lakeville and has 2 young boys with a possibility of attending that high school. Great decision Lville North.

Don't be surprised to see Kraft join Eigner on his staff. They have a good relationship, and I wouldn't doubt one bit that Trent is reaching out to Ryan to have him involved.
Trent has a great knowledge of the game, has played and coached at the professional level, and will bring a lot of good things to Lakeville North's association.

Way to go! You just proved my point about hockey parents, crazy! You have already given Trent NO chance to succeed before he has even started. You were really endorsing ryan Kraft, why?
Give Trent two years and MNHSHfan will be wanting him out by the time his son gets to high school. It will be all Trent's fault the MNHSHfan's kid doesnt make it to the NHL. Way to go to Lakeville North! You really ruined this father's ultimate dream.
MNHSHfan25: I will speak for everyone...Calm Down!!

I have no kids...good call on that one buddy. You're read on me couldn't be any more incorrect. It's almost comical. Not one time did I bash Trent's ability to coach high school hockey. I just felt Kraft was a more deserving candidate. I am aware of Krafts relationship with him and I also wouldn't be surprised to see Kraft join the staff as an assistant. Hopefully they click well together as coaches. So my "son" can have 2 good coaches when he reaches high school in 2 years

Just my thoughts
A few things to think about...
Trent got the head girls coaching job at Rosemount a few months ago, also hasn't made it a secret that he wants to get involved in making Rosemount better - especially would love to be the boys hs coach. Now - he's left Rosemount high and dry looking for a new girls coach. The only thing I would question are his intentions with Lakeville. How long does he want to stay and why should he want to help with the youth program when he has a stake in Rosemounts youth program (his rink and lots of kids in the Rosemount program)? He obviously has a love of the game, and it sounds like he's a good coach with quite a bit of experience. Putting him and Ryan Kraft together might make for a good team, and greatly benefit the program.
But, why not give the nod to Kraft when he LIVES in Lakeville and hasn't made it a secret he wants to help with the program in any way he can? So he may not have team coaching experience, but he has years of individual coaching experience working with some of the best players to come out of MN. Oh, and yes, he is one of the best players to come out of MN too. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I thought maybe he had earned the right to start in Lville through his years of life experience. I agree I thought it was a no brainer - but maybe the admin at lakeville thought they could get 2 for the price of 1 knowing they were friends?
Hmmm...Interesting, huh?!

That co-head coach thing never really seems to work out anyway, probably better for all involved!hockeydad0930 wrote:Let's make sure we have our facts right here...before you say he is leaving Rosemount high and dry looking for a girl's coach, realize that he was a co-head coach at Rosemount with Josh Hoekstra. Rosemount girls will not be looking for a new head coach...they still have one.

I do want to comment on something you said. Last year Ryan Kraft was asked to come out and help the high school players. From what I heard is he could have been a j.v. coach but turned it down because he wanted to be an assistant varsity coach in which both postions were filled because so he declined to help at all. (Tryouts were going on at the time from what I heard.) If you really wanted to get involved wouldn't you swallow your pride and become a part of the staff get your foot in the door and then maybe the job could have been his this year. Just because you have played at a very high level for a very long time doesn't make you instantly a good coach and give you the knowledge to run a program. Not saying that a person couldn't but its not a given and there is nothing wrong with just helping out with the program, seeing how things are run, giving ideas of how to change and improve the program, and then take over it.

Truth
If you knew Mr. Kraft you would know he is first class and is willing to help on any level, any time. You might even want to ask the new coach, as I'm sure he would agree. I'm not sure who your source is, but I do know he was never asked to coach the JV. As a matter of fact I also know that he reached out to Mr Schmitz several times since moving back from Germany. He was more than willing to help with offseason and inseason training - anytime - any level, and he was met with a brick wall. That's the facts, nothing more to it. No need to start rumors about a guy who loves the sport of hockey, has given a lot to it, and will continue to give a lot more to our city. Yes, I'm a lakeville resident, and I want nothing more than for the program to succeed. No need to bash a guy whom you obviously don't know. I was never bashing Trent, I was just bringing up a few questions I thought needed to be answered. Logical ones I think? And, since you all are so "in the know" about hockey, I thought you could answer them for me. Obviously I hit a nerve with some. I apologize. Have a great day!!!!
