Is this the guy who coaches (or has coached) the Whitecaps and Jr. Whitecaps?
Same guy who was asst. at EP, Hopk and BSM? Or is this the guy who coached Richfield a couple of years ago?
If it is the Whitecaps guy, I am not sure how much the Breck AD learned from the last hire. Great coach. Girl's flock to him and LOVE to play for him.
Breck is on the verge of a dynasty. Congrats to Breck!
The got the "whole" package.

Breck-
Dear MNHockeyFan:
I think you have this asked this question several times now.. (COME ON)
I wonder who they will hire to be their recruiting coordinator? Has anybody heard?
let's put hockey aside for minute shall we , who wouldn't want their child to attend Beck and receive a top notch High School Education, the kids who Play and attend Breck are one of the most dedicated athletes and STUDENTS you will ever find... They deserve your respect ! Come on what schools don't recruit ?! Really, are you that dumb.! It's called open enrollment if you haven't heard of it. Parents transfer their kids all the time to play for Minnetonka or Edina.....Who really cares ! It just makes the kids work harder. Breck "Students" work hard to keep their grades up and play hockey 6 days a week, 3 hrs daily in the hopes maybe get into the college of their choice ( hopefully D1).. Just let the kids play.

Hockey03 - Calm down there buddy. You need to get your facts straight before you go off yelling at everyone. The gentleman menat what he was saying was "off topic." He wasnt saying that towards you.
And anyone can opt up to play AA. Roseau is a single A school, but chose to opt up to AA.
Its okay everyone the single A tournament is actually where all the recruiting is taken place anyways; Warroad, Breck, South St. Paul, Blake, etc.

Totally agree Hockey'03. With new programs starting up like Marshall that allow girl's to marry their education to their athletic endeavors, we'll only see more options for girls. After all, this is about the girls, isn't it? Providing these types of opportunities means higher achievment. So often we tend to look at something new or different as bad simply because of fear- fear that it will force us to look inward and recognize that change might be in our best interest. And we all know how much we like change. My only hope is that eventually schools like Breck, BSM, Marshall, SPA, etc. create their own league which allows them to grow their programs unfettered from the old ways of doing things. A 9 month Midwest Prep School League would provide these schools an opportunity to compete amongst themselves and other similar programs across the country, while leaving the traditional 24 game schedule to the MSHSL. Why won't that be readily accepted? Because then a comparison could be made between the two models, and that would force people to admit that the old way of doing things might not be the best today...

Actually if you look back it wasn't me who asked the question; I was just having a little fun with it.Hockey03 wrote:Dear MNHockeyFan:

I have nothing against Breck at all, and in fact I'm a huge supporter of school choice in general. As you say just let the kids play and attend school wherever they want! But I think you'll agree that the grownups (coaches and parents) do have to follow the rules that are in place, which apparently the previous coach didn't always do.Hockey03 wrote:let's put hockey aside for minute shall we , who wouldn't want their child to attend Beck and receive a top notch High School Education, the kids who Play and attend Breck are one of the most dedicated athletes and STUDENTS you will ever find... Not sure if there is enough room to list them all here.

My best guess is he will get the bodies in the door, and rely on others to do the on ice instruction. In all his asst jobs punctuality, preparation, and on-ice instruction haven't been his strong points. I think that is why it has taken him so long to land a head job. It will be interesting to see how he handles being the one in charge. I wish him well.Tigers33 wrote:Can he actually coach though?
All the people interviewed were told it was an interim job, that is typically what happens when a hiring is done this close to the season. It's a good test run for him, or anyone to see if they can handle all the things that come with being a HC. The on the ice stuff is the easy part of the job, it's the other 20-30 hours a week of stuff that not everyone can handle.Tigers33 wrote:"Interim" means go recruit some players that can take the place of our stud defenseman and than we will find someone who can coach them. Basically Chris Peterson is a pawn to Breck
It would be really funny to see nobody good go to breck next year. Ha!

It makes it tough to attract players with an "Interim" coach due to the associated future uncertainty.
"CP" does have a great track record of always being involved with very talented and successful teams. I wish him the best of luck - as well as the rest of the program. I imagine he could attract a great coaching staff of former D1 level women's players based on his connection to former top HS players. That would be wonderful for the organization and girls' hockey.

My understanding...every coach has a one year contract, they always have to resign the contract again the next year.Hockey03 wrote:Chris Peterson is Interim Head Coach for the 2011-12 season. I believe this in only a one year contract.

Back to the Breck hire. I am ok with girls who get an opportunity to go to a great school like, Breck or Blake or wherever, for the reason that you need to take the best opportunity that you have for your best education. However since the public schools and the private schools are not and even ground when it comes to recruiting (or selling your school whatever they hide behind) they should have their own state tournament and let them beat up on each other or at the very least put all the private schools in the state in one section and just have one state tournament private school team. Since it is for schooling that they go to these schools and not hockey nobody should have a problem with this. Just an opinion.

As to public vs. private. There are differences in the educational experience that some families and kids choose. Many students achieve coming out of either educational environment.
As this relates to player movement, I don't know all the player movements but of the ones I know there seems to be as much public to public movement as public students to private high schools.
examples: Inver Grove Heights girls to South St. Paul
Edina and Minneapolis girls EP
Centennial, North St. Paul, St. Paul girls to Roseville
etc.
What needs to go is the illusion of transfer rules
prohibiting girls from playing Varsity at the new school they attend. Seems like the ones with means get around the intent of the system and
are eligible at their new schools.
Not calling the recruiting at all, just choices that families are making.
