Silent- What source did you get this from? The Class AA rankings in your post seem to match today's edition of the LPH (http://www.letsplayhockey.com/1049rankings.pdf), but the Class A rankings do not. It looks like maybe one of the weekly rankings from last season. Thanks.

Oh, I see. I just answered my own question. It's on the cover of the LPH (http://www.letsplayhockey.com/1049cover.pdf). Looks like an unfortunate mistake by the LPH editorial staff....

? What does anyone else think? With the lack of single A teams, I think they should only have a top 10, instead of a top 20, I know of a few of the teams in the lower 11-20 that are not going to be very good. As of now, it is early, rankings with change when the games are played. But, even with the the final last year, some of those teams did not need to make a top list. This is not a slam on any player or team, just that the lack of total A teams warrant only a top 10 rankings. JMHO Good luck to all the players this season, stay safe, have fun.

I think you could Mix Chaska in the AA top 20

I believe Mound West tonka will drop quite a bit
Red Wing Should move up quite a bit

LPH has corrected the online version of its Pre-season Rankings cover page:

It seems to me that you're misrepresenting the total number of Class A teams vs. Class AA. According to the MSHSL website, there are 69 AA teams and 55 A teams this year. I wouldn't call this a "lack of" single A teams. If there is going to be a Top 20 for AA, then there should be at least a Top 15 for A (based on the percentages).

I'm not sure when you looked at this, but when LPH corrected their rankings for this year 5 or 6 teams did drop out.

I'd prefer a top 10 for both classes and then 5 more "Teams to Watch" (essentially teams 11-15 in current LPH rankings but withuot ranking listed).

Once you get past the top 10 I'd say it's a real toss-up in most sports.

There is an argument for A having fewer teams relative to AA but by % it would be more of a 20AA, 15A list.

Looking at KRACH rankings - taking only teams at 100 or higher value (10x better than an average team value of 10) - AA had about 15 last year whereas A had 4. In fact, A only had 12 (of 52 total) teams better than the "Average" team in the state with a KRACH value of 10 - AA had 44 (of 71 total). This means that you don't even have to be an average team in the state - overall - to be ranked 13-20 in Class A. I don't think this should shock anyone - classes are used to promote participation and their goal isn't to create a place for the best teams in the state to hide and win State when they should have considered opting-up to AA:

Actually I believe AA is now down to 68 teams this year. It sounds like the Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper co-op is now official, but the MSHSL website hasn't been updated yet to reflect that.
