Monticello - Forfeit
(The Monticello coaches decided to forfeit the final game. I don't know the circumstances, but it would certainly be interesting to know why they pulled out. It's generally considered a pretty Mickey Mouse move to take your toys and go home, but again, I don't know the circumstances. Whatever the reason, it was very unfortunate for Minnetonka that not only did they get robbed out of a Tournament game, but they were also robbed of the opportunity to compete to win the Pool, as the forfeit messed up their +/-)
Elk River 5?
Rochester 0?
I know the Elks won. The score escapes me. 5-0 rings a bell but could be wrong))
also, Farmington was winning 2-1 over Prior Lake in the 3rd, but nedded a 5-1 win to get into Pool play. I don't think that happened ...
So we did get our upset (Stillwater), and the Pools look like this ...
Championship Pool
Wayzata vs Stillwater
Edina vs Elk River
Consolation Pool
Eden Prairie vs WBL
OMG vs Minnetonka
Both tough brackets! Good luck to all the teams on Sunday!

Because of the Monticello forfeit, all Monticello games were thrown out in that pool.... The number 1 seed in that pool came down to ER beating Rochester by 4..... Rochester was up 2-0 early and was tied 2-2 after two periods but ER rallied for four goals in the 3rd and two goals in the last 1:30 with their goalie pulled to win 7-3 advancing them to the semis.... Hats off to ER, they did what they needed to do and advanced to the semis... no doubt that Tonka caught a bad break but that's not ER's fault.... I highly doubt ER would've pulled their goalie with 2 minutes left up 5-3 if Tonka was playing after them at 9:30.... I get the feeling Monticello has played their last game in the EP tournament....

not saying it would of been that big of a difference. Just saying with those 2 kids on the same line, the score would of been different.RUKidding wrote:Andover Dude-grocerystick21 wrote:Maple grove 4

No disrepect to the two guys as they're great players, but you're not implying they would have made a 4-5 goal difference are you?

Last year Edina skates off in the middle of the 3rd place game in a big Bantam A tourney at Roso'. Now we have Monticello leaving during a big tourney...I would like to know why and I agree with RU KIDDING - These guys cant be invited back, can they?
Oooo, sounds like a good one. Anyone who was there got a summary? I foolishly went and watched the Wild crap the bed instead.
Edina got a penalty shot 2 minutes into the game and went up 1-0. Wayzata tied it up 1-1. Then Edina got a PP goal to go up 2-1. Wayzata got a PP goal to tie it at 2-2. It was 2-2 after 2 periods. In the second OT edina scored, Bellows, on another PP. The second OT was 4 on 4. There were plenty of chances by both teams to get the 3rd goal and end the game before then, both goalies played very well. Both teams had guys out of the lineup, edina had more guys out though.

Was it as even as the score indicates?
Great game...look forward to these two teams meeting again in December.
I also saw both morning games. It looked to me that Wayzata seemed uptight and wasn't connecting on their passes as good as they did in the morning. Edina came to play and it showed. Both teams had their chances but it looked like Wayzata had quite a few times to end the game in the third and just could not capitalize on them, then it would be followed by a few rushes from Edina with good chances as well.
Both goalies played tremendous games as you figured they would for a game like this.
Overall I would say if the same team that showed up to play Stillwater in the morning showed up in the evening we may have had a different outcome but we will have to wait and see at a later time if that happens.
None the less..the Hornets showed that they are indeed a team still in this regardless of how many guys they have injured or that left.

From the information that I heard, Monticello had a scheduling issue where they had not 1 but 2 District 5 games scheduled (one Sat and one Sunday). They tried to see if our team could take their D5 games but our kids were already in a tourny too........you would think that before the tournament that could have been resolved and the whole mess averted."The Monticello coaches decided to forfeit the final game. Consolation Championship
White Bear 3
Minnetonka 2
Triple OT
Great game to watch. Minnetonka used their exceptional team speed and jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game but White Bear stayed composed and most importantly stayed out of the penalty box. They battled back to tie it and both teams had numerous chances to end it in the multiple OT's. Minnetonka seemed to tire late in the game as most of the 2nd OT and 3rd OT was spent in Tonka's end although every once in a while Tonka would come blazing out of their own end creating opportunities in the offensive zone. They just couldn't sustain pressure in White Bear's end. Goaltenders for both sides were sharp! White Bear likes to grind out the game in the cormers, cycling over and over again waiting for an opportunity. They scored the game winner by cycling 3 on 3 in the 3rd OT sliding one past the goaltender on the ice during a scrum in front of the net.

I took a couple minutes and looked on their district web site and they did in fact have league games both saturday and sunday. But I have to say shame on their coaches and manager for not having this figured out before hand, and costing other teams money for shorting them games.puckfan wrote: From the information that I heard, Monticello had a scheduling issue where they had not 1 but 2 District 5 games scheduled (one Sat and one Sunday). You get to make your own schedule in districts with teams so why would you schedule games when you are in one of the best tournaments of the year. If I was the tournament director (which I am not) I would never let another Monticello team into any tournament in my association no matter how good the team was.

In the second OT I heard Wayzata got called for a too many men. Unless it was really blatant and the puck actually got played, kind of a BS call at that stage of the game in my opinion (and I got no dog in the fight).ahastars03 wrote: Edina got a penalty shot 2 minutes into the game and went up 1-0. No question the call had to be made. It was the second or third time the Trojans had an extra man. The Hornets never set up the pp offense on the game winner. Simply a screened shot from inside the blue line.silentbutdeadly3139 wrote:too bad a penalty had to be called but it was blatant and was correct call. great gameCasseauCougar wrote:In the second OT I heard Wayzata got called for a too many men. In that case, gotta make the call (and control your bench). Thanks for the 411.Bluewhitefan wrote:No question the call had to be made. It was the second or third time the Trojans had an extra man. Agreed. And why not reschedule your district games if you were a late tourney entrant?puckulence wrote:I took a couple minutes and looked on their district web site and they did in fact have league games both saturday and sunday.
