Day off?? My kid plays for Forest Lake, My Pee-Wee plays B-ville @ 10:00, My U12 plays @ Elk River, and my squirt plays Edin Praire. What day off are you talking about?? If it gets really slow I'll try to catch my mites practice. Stillwater was my prediction and I was wrong. I guess I should skip Vegas........

Just think, maybe EP could have had the day off on Sunday as well if they would have been in the East or West bracket. Prior Lake is the best team in the state as of right now. Beyond them, there is some serious parody in PWA hockey. Should be some great hockey on Sunday. EP has done a great job hosting this high end tournament.

So the all D6 Final Four is dead thanks to Elk River!
Whew. I'm sure we all breathed a sight of relief...
A few thoughts:
It is Prior Lakes tournament to lose, but will they close the deal? Can they win when it matters?!
Minnetonka comes out and surprises a few people, or did they? Maybe OMG is just what they've always been: nice team that never claims a trophy. I had this wrong.
Elk River gives Edina a thrashing. A serious thrashing, they didn't belong on the same sheet of ice. Sorry Hornets, but it will be next year before they dominate again.
Eden Prairie may have had "home-path" to the semis, but they have the best goalie, and #18 might just be the best player in the tournament. (and no, my son doesn't even reside within 20 miles of EP, so he's not mine)
EP over Tonka
PL over ER
Both will be very close games
PL over EP in OT 2-1

Hockeytweet - with all due respect you are simply not watching the games. I agree that Prior Lake will play EP (Tonka is close) in the title game but EP is the team that doesn't belong on the same sheet as PL. You will soon see that the East West Brackets were much stronger than North and South. If we use your logic of Edina not belonging on the same sheet of ice as the Elks than why did Stillwater tie the Elks and then lose to the Hornets? The reason...... they are 12 years old and inconsistent. That's the beauty of PWA hockey. This is just the start of a long season for all of these teams. The state champ may be laying in the weeds in northern Minnesota. PL will win by five or more. PS - The best player in the tournament was unable to play due to a family wedding - stay tuned until the Edina Tournament.

I finally got a chance to get over and watch PL play. They are very good and I think they will be the power of D6 this year. Edina may have stuggled against Elk River but I would never count them out. I saw parts of that game as well and they have a lot to improve on but they are well coached and will get better. It's early in the season.

I predict PL and Tonka in the final with PL running away with it 6-2.

Lakeville South - 1

This was a great game both teams came to play. Prior Lake and Lakeville South a clearly the best 2 teams in state at this point in season.

Prior Lake outplayed South in the first period scoring on a power play. South came out firing in the second but could not find the back of the net, PL got another power play and capitalized again to end period up 2-0. In the third South again came out firing and finally put one past a stellar PL goalie, South threw everything at the PL goalie but he was up to the challenge. I over heard the shots were 36-15 in favor of South.

PL 2-4 on pp
LVS 0-5 on pp
Both teams are great but sounds like a unstoppable goalie tilted the balance (2+:1 SOG's).

Now PL should walk away with the championship and Lakeville S has the consolation to loss.

A side note, there seems to be so many pp goals for AND against my boys' team. Wonder if this is a byproduct of non-checking change.

EP has a good team. They're also the host team in this tournament. Which means they stacked their own bracket to play weaker teams such as Farmington, Chaska, and White Bear Lake. Easy road to Sunday with little competition. If EP wins big over Tonka I will be impressed. If EP loses to Tonka then they're just another good team.

PL has the best player in the tournament.

Edina has way too many first years this year. It appears too much politics got in the way of picking the team. Sad to see some really good second year players from Edina on the PWB1 team. Chance you take living in Edina. Not to mention the player they recruited that lives in Shakopee has been hurt and may come back in January. They also have another top player that re-injured his shoulder recently. May be out for the year.

I'm still amazed that parents are moving peewee aged kids to play for more competitive teams. Better yet parents are actually selling their houses and moving so little Billy can play for a good team.

What a great PWA Tournament down in EP. I will defend my earlier prediction as Monsterbuck accused me of not watching. Although I do agree that these are 12-13 year olds, anything can happen.

Prior Lake won 3-2, scoring the winner with under a minute to go, avoiding the OT, I predicted. I thought 2-1 in a low scoring affair, based on the fact that both goalies were extremely capable. And if you watched, PL did score on a controverial goal, when the attacker knocked the goal off off its moorings at the same time he collided with the EP goalie, knocking him into the net. Tough call to make. That may have turned the game.

These 2 teams will play each other multiple times. I don't see any 5+ goal differential on any consistent basis, but one team or the other may crap the bed.

You need to give the Skippers credit after Sunday. They are a team that is fast and built for the non-checking rules. They will be a wild card all year, knocking off a higher ranked team one week, losing ugly the next.

Prior Lake is the best team. They'll be hard to stop all year if they survive injury free.
But give EP credit, they hung tough--and they did it rolling all 3 lines. If you watched that game, Prior Lake had a VERY short bench. In the end, that probably won that game for them.

Wow, no mentioned of Lakeville South lost to PL 2:1, with a SOG much in favor of Lakeville S? A team with 2+ to 1 SOGs would have won most of the games.

Not mentioned because Lakeville South placed 5th. Shots on goal don't matter if you don't win the game. What happened against Rochester??? Prior Lake beat that team 8-0 and Lakeville Tied them 1-1. Sorry Lakeville is good but there are plenty of teams better.

I did not say LVS won the game because they had more SOG's! They lost to PL and the score was 1:2. PL is a great team and probably the best in the state now. But can you say a team has a better chance (> 50%) to win a game if it has 2-to-1 favor in SOG or the other way around? Asking this question is because most likely these teams will face each other a few times this season, could a goalie have an average day things could be different.

Plenty of teams are better than LVS? Name your list and let us find out what happens.

For now PL is 16-0, LVS lost to PL (1:2) and OMG (4:5 at pre-season).

Rochester did not outshoot south 22-3 in third. While south did have let down vs. Rochester it had more to do with 12yr old kids having a difficult time regrouping after an emotational loss to PL.

South is a very talented team but for now Prior Lake won the battle. Prior Lake is fun to watch and will be the team to beat.

Its funny everyone knocks Rochester but when the KIDS play well you say
Lakeville South let down ...hmmm Rochester got beat 8-0 and didnt get down and tied 2 teams and 1 of the teams is a so called power house ..you cant have it both ways ...Im not a Rochester Parent But I did see the EP tourney and I will tell you this ...The Brackets were made for certain teams to advance. Say what you want PL, EP and Rochester had a good tourney's
I guess the year is early lets see come Feb..Im betting Edina EP PL Rochester and Lake South are there in the end

Well than by your method why did PL only beat Wayzata by 3, While South beat Wayzata 8-1. These are 12yr kids every game is completly different. Prior Lake and South have proven so far this year that they are the top 2 in state at this point in season just look at who they have played so far this season. can that change next week YES. Will Rochester Red improve through out the season YES will they be there at the end YES. they play in one of the weakest districts in the state. Did Rochester play tough in EP Tourney YES.

Prior Lake is the team to be right now. The season is a marathon not a sprint. On any given day most of the better teams can beat each other.

No doubt EP, Prior Lake, Edina benefit by playing in D6.

Question is: Who will be playing good hockey in the end?

Better question: What teams would benefit if there was checking?

Some of the top teams are very small? Not sure if they would be as dominant if there was checking. Keep an eye out for the next two seasons as these kids move up to Bantams.
I already see it watching some smaller players get older. The more physical the game - the less dominance.

Serious question: Growing up I used to watch Rochester John Marshall or Rochester Mayo each year in the state tournament. What happened to Rochester hockey? What changed? Doesn't seem like Rochester is a serious contender anymore?
