Section 5A

Post by Shortshift »

Is this a 1 team or 2 team race? Hermantown or Cathedral? H-Town just smoked Sauk Rapids 8-0. Rogers and Sauk was a 4-2 game. Did Rogers have a bad game or are they even with Sauk? Cathedral is always a contender and only has played 1 good team in Breck, But did hear they were missing 3 or 4 starters.

This is probably a three team race. Hermantown is probably the favorite. Cathedral just got their first line back for the first time last night and they looked good. Should have everyone back for Friday's game against Lourdes. Their schedule will have them tested for a section run playing Breck, Marshall (twice), Little Falls (twice), Hermantown, Warroad, and Rogers. Rogers has a chance to challenge, they will get a chance to see where they are at when Hermantown comes to Rogers next Saturday. They also play some tough teams in their non-conference schedule.
I don't any of the others really challenging these 3 teams.

I don't know anything about how Cathedral or Rogers have changed since last year, but my opinion, unfortunately, is that it will probably end up not being a race at all.

Last year Hermantown beat Cathedral 7-1 in the semi's and Rogers 5-0 in the finals and they only graduated one of their top 6 scorers. Their team only has 2 sophomores on it and is top heavy with 10 seniors.

My guess is they will allow less than 3 goals in section play.

Yeah, Hermantown is absolutely the favorite and it would be a HUGE upset for them not to make it to state.

Cathedral is young but they have much better size then last year. They have great potential. It depends on how they grow as a team but they could make it an interesting race by the end of the season. They are just starting to get all of their key people healthy and playing, Friday may be the first game.

Agreed that Hermantown is the heavy favorite, but Rogers and St. Cloud Cathedral both could present a challenge. Rogers has a more veteran club that has been on the rise for the past few years. Cathedral is a young team that may be a year from getting back to state.

They dress six seniors and seven juniors, that's not that young.
