Warriors are Coming

Post by Skip_per »

Well it’s like this. Brainerd Warrior Hockey is on the map. The day will come that we will go to state and we will make a show. We have put together some great kids over these past few years.

I would like to share the list of ones I know firsthand. If I have missed any well, I apologize ahead of time. This is not a complete list; it is just the ones I know. I am only going back a few years.

Ryan Peltoma – He is currently playing at Bowling Green University as a Defenseman. He is a sophomore there and has two years left to play. At Brainerd he was part of a perfect Conference season. He was all Conference in 2005-06. He had a good season with the Warriors.

Joe Frazer – as a senior set the all-time single season assists record. He was all conference 2006-07 and was part of a great season for the Warriors. Joe went on to play in the Western Hockey League for the Medicine Hat Tigers. He played there 3 years. His best season was 70 games; he had 18 goals and 12 assists. He was then invited to be a coach for the team where he still is today. He was one of the most intense players on the ice. If he went into a corner for a puck he always came away with it.

Drew Olson – A great defenseman for Brainerd. He was all Conference his senior year 2007-08. He went on to the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is in his junior year. He was part of the NCAA Division 1 champion team last year. He has played in every game so far this year and had been doing well.

Bronson Shepherd – was all conference for Brainerd his senior year 2008-09. He went on to play for Concordia College Cobber’s in Moorhead MN for 2 years.

Reid Mimmack – was all conference both his Junior and Senior years 2008-09 and 2009-10. He currently holds the Single season Goals against average and is second to Keith Bartholomaus in single season save percentage. Reid is currently playing in the NAHL trying to develop his game to the next level. He is doing well currently for the Texas Tornados where he is 6 wins, 2 losses and 3 OT losses.

Tate Rusk – Another great defenseman, was all conference his senior year 2009-10. Tate went on to play in the NAHL to develop his game for the next level. He is currently playing for the New Mexico Mustangs. Where he is doing well.

Brett Jenkins – was another all conference player from 2009-10. Brett went on to develop his game in the NA3HL where he is doing great. He is playing for the Minnesota Flying Aces. He currently has 12 goals and 13 assists in just 26 games.

Carl Sneep – A great defensemen for the Brainerd Warriors. Carl was all conference for both his Junior and Senior years 2004-05 and 2005-06. Carl made a commitment to attend Boston College where as a Junior and Senior he was part of the NCAA Division 1 Championship teams. Carl was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Mason Fussy – All conference his Senior Year, not however may have deserved it but due to limitations was not selected. Mason has gone on to play for the North Dakota State University Bison. Where as a freshman he is finding success and playing in most every game so far.

Joshua Archibald came to Brainerd as a sophomore. He was all conference for his sophomore, junior and senior years. 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11. As a senior he set the all-time single season scoring record (held by Jerr Johnson) and assists record (held by Joe Fraser) for Brainerd. He is currently 2nd on the list of all time Scorers for Brainerd behind another UNO player JP Platisha. He was drafted by the Pittsburg Penguins in the sixth round; he was the 174th overall pick. He made a commitment to play at the University of Nebraska Omaha for Dean Blais. He received a Rookie of the week for the WCHA honor this 2011 season. He has just received an invite to the tryouts for the National Junior Team. He was one of 29 players to be invited. The roster will be cut to 22. So far in the WCHA he has made an impact for the UNO team.

All of the above kids have had great careers. We fully expect to continue to have improved showings from our Brainerd Hockey players. A Winning Hockey Machine is developing and improving here in Brainerd. Look for us soon…soon… soon………

I sure hope nobody does one of these for Edina, Bloomington Jefferson, or Grand Rapids. I'm guessing it would end up being a couple of pages long.....

Sadly you missed the idea of the post. But such is your ego I guess. We are very proud of our improvements at Brainerd, as we continue to grow and improve you will see more of us WARRIORS.

and yes you are correct the storied history of other teams is greater than ours, however this is over the past few years and it shows our marked improvements.

Saskatchewan.

Dad and Mom met at UND. Jim was from Saskatoon and Anne was from Brainerd, so I'm assuming it was a chance for her to be closer to family. 8)

The Home town is, where they were born.
As for recruiting. We have not done this with any of our current kids.
They have all come up in the system here at Brainerd with one exception.
Aaron Rich. His family came to Brainerd a couple of years ago, as his Dad is a Heart Surgeon and the Hospital here went after him because they opened up a brand new state of the art Heart Center.

Otherwise. None others currently.
