Average Rankings in Both Classes

Post by HShockeywatcher »

I have compiled the averages of the the rankings of 5 ranking systems that are reputable in MN and am posting the results. They each post their rankings at different days in the week (and LPH is inconsistent) so Wed/Thurs will be when they will generally come out. These are Follow the Puck, MN Hockey Hub, Let's Play Hockey, PageStat and Ushsho. I have left the QRF out because it is a system that seems to favor winning without factoring in SOS. It always gets the top couple right, but beyond that is a crap shoot.

The teams that will be ranked will be those who are ranked in all 3 poll systems (who go to 15); those mentioned in 2 will be mentioned after.

Class A
1 (1.0) Breck
2 (2.2) St Thomas
3 (2.8)Hermantown
4 (4.8)Duluth Marshall
4 (4.8)East Grand Forks
6 (6.4) Thief River Falls
7 (7.6) Mahtomedi
8 (8.0) Rochester Lourdes
9 (9.2) Totino-Grace
10(9.6) St Cloud Cathedral
11(12.6)Delano
12(12.8)Blake
--------------------------------
13 (12.75)Warroad
13 (12.75)Rogers
15 (14.0) Denfeld

There is a definite consensus with the top 5, after that it is a crap shoot and the numbers are all over the place. Their averages seem pretty consistent and this is a great list.

Class AA
1 (1.0) Duluth East
2 (2.8)Maple Grove
3 (3.0) Minnetonka
4 (4.0) Eagan
5 (5.2) Edina
6 (7.4) Benilde-St Margaret's
6 (7.4) Eden Prairie
8 (8.0) Burnsville
9 (9.2) Lakeville South
10(10) Moorhead
11(12.2)Hill-Murray
11(12.2)Grand Rapids
13(12.4)Wayzata
14(13.2)Blaine
15(14.0)Elk River
--------------------
Looking In
Andover
Centennial

FTP, LPH and the Hub have the same top 15 teams being ranked.
Up until Burnsville, the teams are very consistent across all rankings.
Despite a ranking of 15 by FTP, Lakeville South is liked a lot by the computers and not by the polls.
Moorhead's worst poll rank is 9 while their best computer rank is 13.
Andover and Centennial are on the edge of the top 15 in the computer systems.

Well, there have been 26 responses to Karl's AA ratings this week, with over 4,000 views. It's pretty obvious some people do care.

Don't like it? Don't read it.

I kinda agree with the northern guy... We can't take the rankings too seriously, 'cuz there is a lot of hockey left to be played. However, it is interesting to see what people are thinking...

I don't know who the northern guy is, but I'm guessing that he is hoping for a certain "dark horse" to make a major move toward the end. If it is the same dark horse that I am pulling for...then I hope his wish comes true!

Oh, I don't think we take them too seriously and I'm pretty sure most of us are aware that it's where teams wind up in March which truly matters. But in the meantime, speculation and different ways of looking at the numbers pass the time on those winter nights when there is no hockey action to be found in this great state. :)

i am just saying i do not understand the fascination with debating if maple grove should be # 2 or if minnetonka should....all seems mundane and trivial. the best is when people piss and moan about someone on the list being rated 13th instead of 12th..please!

People enjoy discussing and debating this topic; its actually very popular. Although you don't understand the fascination of this topic; a great thing is there are other topics you can read and discuss on this forum.
