Most Disappointing Teams

Oldtimer:
Common sense is the fact that htown and mars are htown and mars regardless if they play class a or aa. Playing class a hockey does not automatically mean that grand rapids should beat you just because they play aa. Way to totally get the point though.
and nice job of burning me.
Here is a tip: if someone looks at you, then looks at you again, they mite actually think you are an old friend instead of picking a fight.

Wouldn't make any sense to add Hibbing to 7AA, they almost never beat Rapids and Rapids has only made it to state twice in the last 20 years. 7AA is much better off with Elk River and Andover providing stiffer competition.
If Denfeld were able to get most of their best players to stay at Denfeld, then they would be a good addition to 7AA, otherwise no.
Hermantown is enough of a hockey factory where if they joined 7AA, it would make for a better section. (I am NOT saying they should though)
Marshall is rarely good enough to make any noise in 7AA, they're better off in A.

Most northeastern MN hockey fans would welcome an 8-team section comprised of the teams oldtimer listed. Andover and Elk River might make 7AA a more competitive section now, but no one north of Moose Lake wants a repeat of 1999 when Elk River represented the section at state. That was truly dismal. Oh, yeah - and the team they beat in the section final was Hibbing.rainier wrote:Wouldn't make any sense to add Hibbing to 7AA, they almost never beat Rapids and Rapids has only made it to state twice in the last 20 years. 7AA is much better off with Elk River and Andover providing stiffer competition.

I'd love to see Hibbing compete in 7AA too, but the reality is that they just don't have the enrollment for it. The same high quality of hockey is there, but the numbers just aren't. The enrollment now is 634, in 1999 it was around 1000.
As a northern fan, I agree that it sucks to watch Elk River go to state, but having them around just makes the section stronger.

Off topic, but...

I understand that having the Elks in the section makes it stronger, but I'd rather have more northern representation, even if it means that teams with smaller enrollments will have to compete with schools with larger enrollments. In the end, making the section stronger means diddly, especially when teams are scheduling schools out of the section anyways. Case in point, East does not play Elk River this season, which is goofy, though they play plenty of other schools not in 7AA. Also, there is nothing any of us fans can do when schools choose not to opt up. If Hibbing, Marshall and Hermantown chose to opt up, like any other school, they could compete with the big boys some years, other years, no. Not that his has not been discussed in this forum and many other places ad nauseum for years.rainier wrote:I'd love to see Hibbing compete in 7AA too, but the reality is that they just don't have the enrollment for it. The same high quality of hockey is there, but the numbers just aren't. The enrollment now is 634, in 1999 it was around 1000.
As a northern fan, I agree that it sucks to watch Elk River go to state, but having them around just makes the section stronger.
guess i wasn't trying to be so called cocky, just stating that gr plays alot of class a teams which tend to be a little softer than aa teams. sorry to wrinkle your dress rapids rapids but i do recall beating your team earlier in the season and i don't recall saying that er has been that great this year. gr overrated

The best known example is the EP team that graduated last year. They were Pee State A Champs their second year, Bantam A State champs their second year and HS State Champs their 1st and 3rd years.
Wayzata will mention they lost their top line of Opperman, Besse and Lucia. Lakeville South did lose Osterberg but don't know what else has cost them since. Apple Valley was also at the State Bantam A tourney 3 years ago and they've lost Michaelson and Fasching so obviously losing top players hurt as they've fallen a bit since.
Some things stay the same as Duluth East, Eagan and Maple Grove were very good Bantam A teams 3 years ago and are still on top today. They're also senior heavy I believe.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Jefferson. But you just listed 12 losses, 5 of which were against top 10 teams (EP, MTKA, Wayzata [2] and Eagan). That means the other 7 are against teams not in the top 10. With Jefferson having been a PERENNIAL powerhouse in the past, I would think 12 losses at this point of the season might be disappointing. Also, with Lakeville South's team having been as heavily bashed on threads in this forum as they have been, one might consider an 8-2 loss embarrassing. Not any really embarrassing losses, I am sure they hoped to beat AV and LN, but other than that, not a lot of gimme's on this list.
I hope BJ bounces back next year and in years to come.

what were the expectations for wins this season?defense wrote:I will say that Fergus falls is a disappointment.
i think they only had 9/10 or so wins last season not?
they're a compettive team, not a great team.
they don't really have a go to guy for scoring, ahlgren is a playmaker not much of a goal scorer
the go to guy was brazil, why did he leave?
and i believe its the starting goalies first year varsity?
got a few weeks to put it together and make a run in sections, they still have a fairly good shot being that right now to me its a 3 team race between ff, alex and lf. and apollo is lingering at 4th

Expectations? Maybe 4 losses right now.
Probably I didn't expect this team to start 0 and 4.
1 and 2 in the holiday tourney? Kidding me?
7 to 1 loss last night seals it.
This team has unreal talent..sure are not showing it, brazil or not.
Seen Moundsview had a couple nice wins this week, are they coming around, or was this just a fluke?BodyShots wrote:Agreed.WHAFightingSaints wrote:Mounds View-
A lot of pre season hype, even mentions in pre season Top 20 by some. Much hype about the new coaching staff and the bantams that made a run coming in to make this team a dark horse in the SEC and Section 4AA. Currently sitting in 9th place in the SEC.
