Section 1AA

Post by RickyTicky »

With Lakeville North's 12-1 win tonight over Mayo and Lakeville South's 10-1 win over Century.. Its seems a foregone conclusion it will be another all Lakeville section final this year in 1AA. South seems to have the better team and the leading candidate for Mr. Hockey but North always seems to step up their game to a whole different level when they play South. I think the game next Thursday will decide who is the #1 seed and who is ready for sections. Will Kloos and southern boys break through this year or will the Panthers sneak in again with their trademark .500 record?

With the game being played down in Rochester the advantage immediately shifts to North. With experience playing in multiple North vs. South games down there, the ice definitely helps North. Its slow, turns the game into a territorial battle where Norths physical and collapsing defensive style has a big advantage. South is consistently the faster and more skilled of the two teams, but on that rink the ice really neutralizes that. Its just slow. The one thing South does have this time tho is the new rules. North can't turn it into a football game like the first game this season. I hope South can pull through, Kloos has had an amazing high school career. He deserves a shot to play on the big stage.

Best Rochester team in double a

Post by grandmeadowhockeyfan »

I have posted this before and I want more responses. Which will be the last Rochester team standing section play. My opinion is that mayo will make it the farthest. Good defense and a great goalie versus all non lakeville teams. Any other opinions.

I'm guessing both Mayo and Century make the semis where both will be knocked out by a Lakeville.

The winner of the next North /South game will be #1, the loser #2. North beat Century 6-4 and Mayo 12-1, plus with a win over South ealier they can't drop any lower than #2. South beat Century by 9, even another loss to North won't hurt them in the section.

The winner of Century/Mayo is #3, the loser will be in the #4/#5 game with Owatonna unless Owatonna wins the Big Nine then they are #3.

JM and Farmington are #6 and #7

The winner of Winona/Dodge County gets the #8 seed and gets the home game against the loser.

Goldy,

Solid analysis. . . I think the Big 9 final standings define 3, 4, and 5. Both Mayo and Century seem to be sliding a bit while Owatonna has not lost in the last 11.

In reality, it probably only defines who loses to which Lakeville, though!

8 to 1 loss for North to Burnsville and 5 to 2 win for South over Prior lake.

It does seem like the two teams have gone opposite directions since they last played. You would think the win over South might get North going but seems like it might of woke South up instead. South has gone 8-2 since playing North with only 2 tough loses to highly ranked Eagan and EP. Meanwhile North has gone 4-5 in that same stretch. I see South taken the rematch by 3+ goals and I still see this as South's section to lose

Yes, kind of like the last couple years.. Just because they are suppose to win doesn't mean they are going to

Anyone see any upsets tonight? The 2 Lakevilles will have no problems but it looks like Owatonna and Century have played some close games already this season and same with Mayo and JM. I have seen Century and Mayo play earlier this year but not the others.. does any of the southern teams have a legit shot of knocking off one of the Lakevilles?

There always could be an upset. It does not look good for any team playing the two Lakeville's tonight, but anything can happen in this game. You still have to play!

South should beat Winona by a bunch
North hasn't been playing very well but Farmington isn't that good, I don't see North losing this one.
Mayo and JM is a complete toss up
Century and Owatonna are evenly matched but I give it to Century at home in a tight one.

Intracity games are tough to predict correctly as much more seems to come into play than just who on paper is the best. Randy Schmitz always seemed to have his teams playing the best come this time of year...will the parents handpicked succesor be able to repeat that? That is the elephant in the room these next 8 days.

North, Century, JM, and Owatonna all have new head coaches. it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

In a really close and competitive game Mayo Beats JM 3-2
