The final score actually ended up being pretty reflective of the gameplay. The first and third periods were heavily lopsided in East's favor, while the second was pretty even.
Nice response in the 3rd period by East after a tough luck first period and a bad second period. Not a great night for the top line, but the second line picked them up. It wasn't a brilliant effort by the Hounds tonight, but not a particularly worrisome one, either. On to Denfeld.
For Cloquet, it's progress. They were a lot better than the first time around. Props to Coach Esse for getting this team going, as he so often seems to do when he has the talent to do it. Their young first line could be something special if it sticks around, but they probably got a bit too worn down tonight. They didn't take a single penalty; they'll need that sort of discipline if they want to pull an upset in sections.

2-2 after 2?
Sounds like East is not quite where they were earlier this year if that's how they fared against an unranked team.
Do they have everybody back now? Were the CEC goals weak? How many shots did they face?
If they played a shaky game vs. CEC I'd be a little concerned next time they come up against an Edina, Maple Grove, Tonka etc.
Can anyone who was there evaluate how they looked tonight vs. early season success?

East had over 35 shots; Cloquet had under 15. The first Cloquet goal was scored from a very weird angle; the second came 14 seconds into the 2nd period.Snap Shot wrote:2-2 after 2?

It was closer than the first game, but I think that reflects more on Cloquet than East. They're not a bad team. Like I said in the other post, not East's best night, but not cause for alarm; even on an off night they dominated most of the game. As they often do against East, Cloquet packed everyone down low and did a good job of limiting scoring chances.

Not to mention East wore those ghastly jerseys again. I was hoping they had burned them after the Tonka fiasco.karl(east) wrote:East had over 35 shots; Cloquet had under 15. I think they're looking more complete now with everyone back, more depth and thus more skill and talent on every line. Cloquet played very disciplined and didn't give up a penalty to a very deadly pp unit. Their top line played MUCH better than in the 7-0 game and Scheuer was just as impressive. They really looked a lot better but East still looked like they were on the power play for over half the game, constantly setting up in the zone and having their way. They could've put themselves out of reach in the first period but Scheuer kept the Jacks in it. Then CEC comes out in the 2nd knowing their still in it and tie it up. Both of their goals were individual plays that seemed (not sure on the first?) to come off of Parker's pads. IMO, he should've had both of them. So I don't think they've dropped off since that 7-0 game, CEC just picked it up offensively and had great tending again. As an East fan, the depth that I'm seeing is very encouraging for a run at state, the second and third lines looked stellar tonight. Anybody have the final shots? It was pretty lopsided until the Jacks brought some heat in the second.
Snap Shot, I was at both this game and the 7-0 game and I'm not worried. East played good and showed better depth, CEC stepped up a lot and still lacked a good bit, so nothing to worry about, there hasn't been a drop off.
BTW, Kulhman-Michaud will be a crazy combo over the next two years, if they stay around that long.
Also, Trevor Olson had a pretty interesting way of taking on a defender 1v1 tonight. Anyone else who was there know what I'm talking about?

If we are thinking about the same one... I loved how he lined up the slap shot, stopped, absolutely dropped the kid coming to hit him,and then took the shot.
No worries about East. Its Cloquet, they usually play East tough. I was happy to hear the student sections chirping a little too much, although everyone is still trying to be politically correct.
