Not much to say this week...

This thread has officially become a bunch of non-sense. Thanks to a few posters.....
-I was part of the problem I am done predicting wins as I ate my crow this past week.- (I am done predicting till playoffs :D )

Below I will post my rankings of where I see these teams. Not what i think Seeds will be.

Section 3A Power Rankings (2/5/12)
1. New Ulm Area
2. Hutchinson
3. Marshall
4. LDC
5. Luverne
6. Windom
7. Redwood Valley
8. Fairmont
9. Worthington

Again not seeds just where I truly think teams rank.

Seeds New Ulm is a Lock at #1 .... It is again the Eagles Section to lose but after that the Section Coaches have a mess on their hands. They will decide the seeds and then the best team will prove their worth.

But that is all I have enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday. [/b]

Luverne hasn't had a win all season that deserves them anything above a five seed. We all know the game vs. Marshall in Luverne was a complete joke...See you in the stands at the section championship...watching Hutch and New Ulm

Please explain why that game was a "complete joke". If you make a bold statement like that, it would be nice to hear why you think that.

Some of you guys need to step back and read this board, and you wonder why this section gets no respect. You guys don't respect each other. You are all such homers, you can't even have a conversation without someone jumping in and telling you how stupid you are and you know nothing. This coming from a hockey fan that doen't have a dog in the fight. Let me have it now.

Who cares if you think someone is or isn't a coach, try and have a converstion and just not rip on them.

Hey I'm pretty sure I was part of the non-sense that 3A Hockeyscout was talking about before and I apologize for that massive waste of board space that I devoted to a pointless conversation. Does anyone know when the coaches meet to seed the teams this year? I'm interested to see who everyone thinks stacks up against New Ulm the best this year, considering they will be the top seed

Say you're right and it was a "complete joke." Wouldn't that then mean the team they beat and the teams they have beating are jokes? So Luverne is now the top seed? #-o

No, I always fault both teams for not playing. My guess is that Luverne doesn't play more section teams because (a) they weren't a contender before this year and (b) no one wanted to schedule them. They have a 24 game schedule, one of which is to a SD team; I highly doubt they turned down offers from New Ulm, Hutch, and LDC to play this season.
Both teams didn't play each other, so you go by what you do know:
We know they are 1-1 against Marshall, each team winning at home, with Luverne taking the most recent game.
We know they have played the lower teams in the section and not lost.
We know Marshall is 1-0 against LDC and 1-1 against NU, Hutch and Luverne.

To me, that shows Luverne should be a notch ahead of Marshall/LDC and up to your judgement concerning Hutch/New Ulm. There're no blinders here, just looking at scores. PageStat, which gets it right more often than not, has them at #3, and in the overall rankings, they are one spot behind Hutch.
Being that the only section game against a top team we have to compare the two is against Marshall, I give Luverne the nod because they won by more.

It is funny, though, to read negative posts about them that are broad with no substance. Keep em comin' :D

hutchtostate, have you even watched a Luverne game this season? When I express my opinions, its based on game results & having watched the teams play. The gap between top to bottom is alot narrower than in the past.

Section 3A HockeyScout some times when you go out on a ledge you fall. Been there done that.

Luverne and Marshall both play St. Peter and the results may impact the coaches seeding. right now Luvernes #s give them the number 2 spot. Marshalls got the # 4 slot which I think puts them up against Litch. that may be better for them rather than going up against Windom for a third time.

I think Hutchtostate may have a couple of brothers on the Marshall team.

Complete Joke?...

Post by fastncrash »

I watched the Hutch - Holy Family game on Saturday.... THAT would fall into a category of past COMPLETE JOKE, to the level of just plain SAD. Thank GOD (Pun INTENDED) the Holy Family goalie mis-gloved one. Was standing next to a Father from Hutch who has a Son on the team and his comments were less than supportive of the effort being given after they knew they were out of the game.

Scores from Thursday in Section 3A....
Luverne over Sioux Falls 4-2
Worthington over Redwood Valley 4-3
Orono over Litchfield 6-0

My Power Rankings
#1 New Ulm (13-11)
#2 Marshall (14-6)
#3 Hutchinson (9-13)
#4 Luverne (17-3-2)
#5 Litchfield (5-18)
#6 Windom (11-7)
#7 Fairmont (5-14)
#8 Worthington (4-16)
#9 Redwood Valley (2-21)

Marshall moved to #2 because they are the only team to beat NU in the section. Lets get some discussion going for playoffs!!!

well luverne beat marshall in the most recent meeting, which shows they have improved, along with new ulm winning the second time. showing they have pushed ahead of marshall.

1. New Ulm
2.Luverne
3.Marshall
4.Hutch
5.LDC/Windom
6.Windom/LDC

With hutch not putting up a win in over a month they dont deserve a home game. but ill throw em a bone. and litch probably losing 19 straight into the playoffs dont be surprised windom jumps ahead of them.. but i think the top 2 teams are rightfully so. I wouldnt bet my money on marshall if they played windom for a 3rd time.. ill see the cardinals and the NU eagles on final friday at gustavus

now the only problem with luvurne over marshall is that both the teams also recently played morris.. luvurne tied morris 3-3 while marshall beat morris 6-3 so to me that should put marshall ahead of luvurne. also when marshall played luvurne the second time the refs were from luvurne and marshall was without one of their best players in bryce peterson. theres no way marshall or luvurne should be ahead of hutchinson.
1. New Ulm
2. Hutch
3. Marshall
4. Luvurne
5. Litch
6. Windom
7, 8, and 9 don't really matter too much

For Section 3A seeding purposes let us look at the facts.

Post by p_cku »

Why is it OK for New Ulm and Hutch to use their second win over Marshall as a reason they should be seeded ahead of Marshall but it not OK for Luverne.

Luverne is willing to play Hutch, and New Ulm at their home arena every year but are always given different reason for them not wanting to play. At least LDC is going to start play them next year. If teams in Section 3A played each other then we could compare Apples to Apples. I understand playing a tough schedule I thinks that is great but unless you beat someone on that tough schedule a loss is still a loss. Because all teams could play the same tough schedule and lose to the same tough teams. Only when you beat the tough teams should those games matter.

Finally rather you like a program or not you need to respect what they are doing. New Ulm, Hutch, LCD, and Marshall have all built strong programs but I remember where they were at the beginning and how hard it was for them to gained the respect they now have in Section 3A. What is disappointing is I think they have all forgotten that and now are treating the other teams in 3A that are building and becoming better like they were treated in the beginning.

Seeding:
1. New Ulm
2. Hutch
3. Luverne
4. Marshall
5/6. LCD / Windom

I just ask that you think about.

I agree with most of what you said, but this is such a crazy concept that no one seems to be able to explain.

I will also add that to me [and many] seeding a select group of teams is much different than ranking all teams in the state. If Breck and Totino were in the state final, who would I put my money on? Breck, hands down. If they both make it to state, who will be seeded higher? Totino, no doubt.

What's the point? You may think Marshall is better than Luverne, I have no issue with that. Ask yourself who won the most recent meeting. They should get the higher seeding if there is no other glaring reasons to take it, which in this case there isn't.

I dont know when seedings come out but Marshall and Luverene play LS/SP next week both at Le Sueur. I do understand that LS/SP is a non sectional team but they are a common oppenent among the top teams. If seedings come out after those two games. That could make a differnce in where those two teams are seeded.

But my seedings as of now are:
1. New Ulm- They had 4 tough games in a week a week ago. They played 3 on the road(LS/SP,Marshall,LDC) and came away winning them all. Seems like they're clicking at the right time, looks like they found their goalie too. Also only section loss coming early in the year to Marshall.
2. Marshall- They are the only team that beat NU. They split series with Hutch and Luverne. Also beat Windom and LDC.
3. Hutch- Havent played well as of late agianst non section teams, but in the section they have beat LDC(x2), split with Marshall, and lost to NU early in the year. Also lost to LSP.
4. Luverne- Give these guys a shot at a first round home game. Lets see what they can do. The only decent section wins they have had were against Marshall and they trounced Windom. But they did tie Morris. We'll see how they fair against LSP this coming Friday.
5. LDC- Its been a tough year for these guys. But these guys battle hard and dont quit. No good section wins to convince me they deserves a higher seed then what they are getting. Did have a win early in the year agianst LSP. Played Marshall and Hutch close in there games.
6. Windom- Started off a nice story with a couple nice wins and some close games here and there. Beat Morris and LSP. They have lost to Luverne, Marshall, and possibly Fairmont if I recal.
7-9. Pick your poison. Toss up between Redwood, Fairmont, and Worthington.

I would imagine this is how the seedings should come out. Maybe some differences between the 2-4 spots, but NU deserves the #1 seed.
P.S. Ive been to enough games this year to know what im talking about. If something is wrong on here dont blow up. This thread has been embarrassing as of late!

Great point. This is actually a point that few have brought up. I don't think saying "Marshall is just better" is really that good of a point but saying "yes, they have lost the most recent meeting of each of the top 4, but they are 4-3 against the other top 5, with wins against all of them" is a good point.

Simply put, if their 3 losses had come first out of those 7 games, and they'd won their last 4 match ups with each of them, they'd be in the discussion for the top spot.

New Ulm obviously gets number 1. Thats about the only one the is set and that matters. Hutch, Marshall, and Luverne are all close that it doesn't even matter, they all have to beat every one to get to state anyways.

Just my guess on how the seedings will work out:

1. New Ulm
2. Marshall
3. Luverne
4. Hutch
5. Litch
6. Windom
7. Fairmont
8. Worthington
9. Redwood

Seedings 2, 3 and 4 could swap places either way. I just hope the coaches realize a 5-19 Litch team can't be in the top 4.

"Seedings 2, 3 and 4 could swap places either way. I just hope the coaches realize a 5-19 Litch team can't be in the top 4." Well put, 5-19 really? should possibly rethink that one. If youre going to play a tough schedule thats great. It is a good idea. Better competition to make your team better is understandable. But, you better WIN at least a few of those games.
