OK, I'll settle it.

Eagan is better than Edina.

It's like two 5 year old's arguing over a piece of candy.
Hermantown would beat both of them!

HShockeywatcher wrote:You are definitely mis-quoting DanfromWoodbury. He didn't mention MG at all, nor did he say to take them out of their schedule, just that Edina's SOS is that much better.

But, let's live in the world of misquoting so it makes your point work. Number looking up time:

So, before I even crunch the numbers, I know Edina will still be higher. Of their 18 remaining games, 10 are against top 20 teams. Of Eagan's 23 games, 6 are against top 20 teams.

Edina's whole schedule 20.73, #2.
Minus MG/Tonka 19.90, which puts them at #12 in the state.

Eagan is at 19.26, #22 in state.
Minus EP/Tonka, 18.03; #43 in state.

So yes, Edina's schedule is still much more difficult than Eagan's. Glad I wasted my time to prove something easily seen by actually looking at the two schedules
Yeah, but the difference is that if Eagan skipped out of their home-and-home commitments to play @EP and @Tonka this year, they would have tried to replace those teams with somebody like H-M (e.g. Wayzata).

If Edina didn't want to play MG or Tonka, then they would have replaced those teams by scheduling games against....well, Buffalo is out...so is EV, LS, Anoka...guess they could have always kept playing WBL, SLP, and T-G, right?

Its amazing to me that the issue of being ranked forth or fifth can create all this acrimony. By definition doesn't this mean both teams should be pretty evenly matched? Most of all us would agree that there appears to be 5 teams at the top and then a bit of a drop. Is it not good enough to be included in that group or am I missing something?

The issue is that (to not hurt feelings) only 4 are seeded at state. Whether it makes sense or not, some want Eagan to be seeded.
While I agree they should have to be matched up with the 4th seed, I don't think the difference between 1 and 5 is that huge.

Whether it makes sense or not? Does that mean that hockeyhub, followthepuck and any other ranking that still has Eagan ranked #4 or higher is senseless?

As for why the partisans are making a fuss? Sure, there's some pre-seed lobbying and posturing going on, but it's also hard for me, as a Wildcat fan, to listen to Edina backers whine about Eagan's soft schedule. Especially since their team helped weaken it! Still waiting to hear somebody explain to me why Edina didn't complete the home-and-home and play @Eagan this season, or why the Hornets chose to replace Eagan's spot in their so much stronger schedule with a team like Anoka.

maybe we should wait and see who gets there before we worry about potential seedings. No matter who eventually wins it they will have to beat at least two very good teams to do it.

Your a comedian..lol..at least you should be..I highly doubt you have seen Eagan play because you would never make that comment if you had, I have seen all the top teams in 7AA play in person and trust me Eagan could beat any one of them, including East.

Why so quick to write off EP this year? I think this year has more depth across the board than last years state winning team which relied heavily on Rau.

Not even close, last years team had a ton of depth. I'm not saying its impossible for them to make it, they have proved they can, but it will be tough for them to get past BSM and Tonka. Also, after looking at the stats of their game against AV (3-2 W) it showed that none of the guys on their top line played, anyone know anything about that?

eagen and edina

Post by rudy »

I've been hesitating to jump into this spirited debate, but let me offer two points of fact:

One strength of schedule measure for this season ranks Edina's as the most difficult. I dunno it's accuracy, but it's out there consider.

Also, some non-conference scheduling this season was mandated by the MSHSL. Don't ask me why or how it was determined what teams would be dropped and what ones had to be added. All I know is that some of the nonconference schedule was beyond Edina's control. I'm guessing the same was true for other teams this season as well. Maybe someone with more info can enlighten.

Now, let the bickering resume!

All the arguing doesn't matter. All teams will have to win six games to win a state title unless they have a play-in.

Look at what you have started, Karl.

You have sullied and ruined the forum because you ranked Edina above Eagan.

Oh, I don't know...if Karl hadn't ranked Edina higher this week after Eagan tied Jefferson there'd probably have been just as much "discussion" generated by Hornet fans and HSHW registering their displeasure. :D

Off-topic, but congrats to the Girls Varsity Wildcats for punching their ticket to St. Paul tonight.

Wow, that's not true at all. Edina fans are pretty quiet compared to you Eagan fans on the forum.

In fact, Karl's rankings are the only rankings that have Edina ranked above Eagan. The Hub, LPH, Pagestat and Follow the Puck all have Eagan ranked higher than Edina. Where are the Edina fans with their pitchforks and torches?

Feel happy 4/5 polls agree with you and move on.

For the record, not ALL Eagan fans are upset about the rankings. I, for one, like reading Karl's rankings and insight but realize the rankings are just for fun and to bring about discussion, and the only thing that matters is what happens on the ice. BOTH Edina and Eagan are very good hockey teams and they deserve to be ranked in the top 5. Let's hope they both make it to State and the "random" seeding process has them face off in the quarterfinals.

Well I think Benilde is not that good given the cream puff schedule they play, and when was the last year that a good Tonka team did not CHOKE at playoff time.......they should change the name from the Skippers to Chokers.....
