Wahlin would look great in a green and black sweater. Props to the coach of the year Tim Sager. As a Pioneer fan, he can stay as long as he would like :). Hill has no excuses if they don't make it this year.

Deja Vu? This game reminded me of last years consolation game at Mariucci. White Bear with a big lead going into the third and then getting a penalty and all the flood gates open up. The Bears thought this one was over to. Pretty embarrassing day for the Bears student section; chanting seasons over with a whole period to play.

I think they should get rid of Sager and make Matt Greer the head coach next year after this embarrassing loss!

We didn't have any excuse last year either.

This is why I've always hated Johnson. They deny us the opportunity to knock off White Bear. And they might get Sager run out of town. ;)

I saw Moose at mass on Thursday morning. He got a lot for his 25 cents when he lit that votive candle.

This is embarassing. How do you let a 5 to 1 lead slip away when you've controlled the entire game to that point!? How do you not take a timeout, and get your team refocused when Johnson was finally getting it going? There's a hundred things I could say about this game, but I'm not even going to bother.

I would like to believe this was the last game Tim Sager has coached with the Bears, but that would just be wishful thinking. Over his 10 year tenure, this is by far the most embarassing moment of his coaching career. Last year was great, but I think the Tim Sager era needs to come to an end.

Pretty cruel of the WBL students to chant seasons over at their own team with 13 minutes left in the third. How did they know??

It's too bad we're missing good ol' Goldfishdude for his eccentric Bear's commentary. I'm sure he might have had a thing or two to say about today's outcome :D

With Johnson getting to within a goal with about a minute left, my wife looks at me and says Sager better take his timeout. I look at Sager on the bench, and he looks like a deer in headlights. NO CLUE what is happening.

He thinks he has "slim pickings" this year, wait until next.
I was alerted by a Woodbury friend of mine, a basketball coach even, that this happened.

I have to make a rare appearance, and state....

I will NEVER support WBL hockey again until Bozo gets run out of town. He absolutely is inadequate as a leader, and as I said last year, they won because of Brandon Wahlin, Max Birkinbine and Mac Jansen.

He has got to go. PERIOD.

I hope he does get canned. But, with our luck, he'll probably be back again.

Hockeyfan??? Haha, I posted my comment before I read your post.

This is ridiculous. Bodyshots is closer to the program than I ever was, but I have known Sager since 1977. I am thrilled to see that smug smirk wiped off his face.

More importantly, I am THRILLED for Moose.. A class guy who offered my son a spot on his team, if he wanted it. Can't say enough about Moose, who has dedicated his whole life to Johnson area.

Fan, in fact, I am a huge H-M fan. Ex-wife's family went there and Lex asked for my son to go there. Many friends have been there. BB coach Ghizoni was one of my coaches.

Sounds like some recruiting on the part of Younghans.

No way! He beat Hill who was ranked #1 in the State. He was named Coach of the Year last year. I say he has earned another 10-15 yrs! [-o<

As a loyal customer of Moose, he knew my son's situation, and if emails to me are recruitment, than, hell yes!!!!

Goldy,

Doing well & nice to see ya take the time to add to a crazy day. Pioneers struggled a little today but moved on. I left the WBL game after 1 as it appeared the Bears were cruising at 3-0. Ya gotta love sections. Moose and the kids made the eastside proud again today. I wished I had seen Sager's face when it ended. It will be interesting to see how things transpire after this one. Hope you & the family are doing well.

Congratulations to the latest generation to represent the East Side pride. I also know the glory days are gone but thanks for reminding us old East Siders what pride is all about.

GFD who do you think should be the head coach next year if they get rid of Sager?

I will just throw this out there...Anyone want to put any of the blame on the kids? I think some has to, correct? I mean you are 5-1 and you let them give up. Not as if Sager said in the locker room, okay boys game is over. Lets pack it in and call it a night.

Sounds like poor coaching, sounds like lack of quality leadership amongst the players, and sounds like a very overrated hockey team.

And think...WBL was Grand Rapids best win. Ouch!

Nope, beating Moorhead was Rapids' best win.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. One loss, even a bad, unexpected, embarrassing loss, should be kept in perspective. Even great coaches occasionally experience terrible losses and life goes on.

Remember, it was only a year ago when Sager's team was on the other end of an unexpected and bad loss against the then #1 team in the state. And this year, WBL were conference champs again.

Sager survived an anonymous "fire Sager" campaign in 2008. If there's another campaign after today's loss, he will no doubt survive it, too.

Tim Sager is no "great coach," Gump.

This guy has single-handedly brought down the WBL hockey program, and that's a fact. Most alumni hate him and his "coaching," future players are repelled to play for him because he's a dope, and he says to the media/public that his team is only one line and the rest are "slim pickins." Even HM fans, WBL archrival, are cheering for Sager to remain Head Coach!

You must be a HM fan, Gump.

These are not characteristics of a great coach.

Sager's winning percentage outside of the SEC over the past 5 years is about .300.

There are a vast many of the youth coaches who feel that Charlie Basco, whom I believe is still at CD-H, and a WBL native, should have been hired ahead of Sager. I am no longer following the program to know if that is still the hope of many.
