7A Semi-Finals Duluth Marshall vs. Duluth Denfeld

Post by The Insider »

The Toppers take on the Hunters 1 P.M. on Saturday in Hibbing. Marshall won earlier in the season 6-0. But this could be a different story with Marshall's starting goalie out with mono, can anyone confirm this? Who do you guys got?

I'll take Marshall by 2 goals. Should be a good game.

Depends on whether or not Thompson shows up for Denfeld. He's great when he's on. This Hunters team has been so up and down though, I'll say Marshall 4-2.

Thompson is key. If he is on his game will keep hunters in it. Hunters have to stay out of the box. Last try and stop Peterson. But Z. Thompson has a great game. Hunters in a upset 3 to 2.

Marshall 4-2. Judd Peterson is too much.

Thompson and Talarico have to have big games for Denfeld to have a chance.

Hopefully it will be a good game, but I'm thinking 5-2 Marshall.

The Toppers are too deep for them to handle. I like Thompson as a goalie but a couple of times when I saw him I kind of wondered who was wearing his pads. He is a good goalie but no longer a great one. Marshall's goalie is OK and that is about it. He makes most of the saves that he is supposed to, a few of the ones that maybe/maybe not and scares the crap out of you when he starts to let rebounds go and loses track of the puck. But Marshall has too much depth for the Hunters to hang with. If the Toppers can get into the last half of the second period in a close game they will win going away as the Hunters will be out of gas. They have a couple of nice defensemen and a decent first line but the Hunters won't have the legs to go the distance.

Heard Marshall goalie Coffman out with mono. If Denfeld put Bowen in net, Talarico and the team could pull this off. Time will tell

Final Marshall 5, Denfeld 2. Denfeld didn't put Bowen in the net so they are done now. So much for the golden year

Just got back from the game. My only question is: Where was this Denfeld team all year? They outshot Marshall, outhustled them, and were quite simply the better team today.

Denfeld had a goal waved off, but one of their goals was a fluke that Marshall essentially scored on themselves.

Quality scoring chances were about even, and the two pp goals for Marshall in the 1st were the difference.

Congrats to Marshall, but the winner of Hibbing and I-Falls should be encouraged by this result.

Huh?

It was 5-2.
The waved off goal (you make it sound like it was legit) was thrown in the net by Denfeld and very obvious from way up in the top row. The ref was all over it right away.
Shots were 28-26 it wasnt as dominating as you make it sound.

Definately Marshall didnt bring their A game, but Both teams were sloppy.
Denfeld was not the better team.

 By the way
Hibbing struggled to beat a very mediocre Falls team. Marshall should be encouraged by that result!!

Definately Marshall didnt bring their A game, but they still kept control of the game prety much throughout most of it.

Marshall got outhustled and outshot by a painfully mediocre Denfeld team they beat 6-0 just a few weeks ago, and really only won 4-2 because of an empty netter. Quality scoring chances in that game were pretty even. Marshall did not look very good, as you mentioned ("Definately (sp) Marshall didnt bring their A game"). 5 on 5, I thought Denfeld was the better team.

Marshall kept control for most of the game? Hardly. This was a one goal game until 4 minutes left. I don't consider that keeping control.

How do I make it sound like the waved off goal was legit? I only mentioned it was waved off, your imagination filled in the rest. From where I was sitting I had no idea if it was legit or not. Oh, and I did mention that one of Denfeld's goals was a fluke.

I-Falls is not a mediocre team. They are not great, but they are a top 20 A team and are certainly better than Denfeld. Hibbing took 13 penalties tonight (Falls had 6) and still won and outshot Falls 41-32. You never know, but I highly doubt Hibbing will take 13 penalties on Wednesday.

Hibbing should be encouraged. Marshall gave up 7 goals to SCC at the end of the reg. season and looked very average versus Denfeld today. Why wouldn't a team be encouraged when their opponent hasn't been playing their best?

Look, I admit it, Marshall is a better team than Hibbing. If both teams play their A game, Marshall likely wins. Marshall is the favorite and rightly so. But if Hibbing stays out of the box, this will be a close game.

Neither Hibbing nor Marshall brought their A games today, yet they will both be at Amsoil on Wednesday. It should be a great game!
