Sorry to burst your bubble, but even if Hibbing was to manage a win tomorrow, which I very much doubt but hey, ya never know; they would be 2 and out at the X. They are a VERY average team this year.rangefan wrote:HIP HIP Jackets! Lets make it back to back.
Public schools will dominate the X this year
East vs. Eagan in finals
Hibbing vs. Hermantown in finals
Talk about a show eh?!

2 and out just like the last couple and only times Virginia made it right? If hibbing is VERY average were your devils VERY below average? Come on now, we all know hibbing didn't have the season everyone thought they would but why wouldn't you want a team 30 miles from yours to represent at state. Did they not do a good job last year?

Yes, Virginia was VERY below average this year, and they still beat Hibbing and kept they're other meeting to a one goal game. And Virginia didn't go 2 and out in 2010. And for your last question NO I do not want them down at state, I would have loved to see Ifalls but will have to bite the bullet and root for D. Marshall tomorrow and I will be rooting for Hermantown and East at state.scoutingthenorth wrote:RangeHockeyFan1817 wrote:Sorry to burst your bubble, but even if Hibbing was to manage a win tomorrow, which I very much doubt but hey, ya never know; they would be 2 and out at the X. I agree the first round game would be a huge challenge for Hibbing, but I doubt two and out. They already beat Little Falls, would pound New Ulm, and can certainly beat Lourdes.RangeHockeyFan1817 wrote:Sorry to burst your bubble, but even if Hibbing was to manage a win tomorrow, which I very much doubt but hey, ya never know; they would be 2 and out at the X. Hibbing hasn't lived up to expectations, but they are very similar to what they were last year. People remember their great playoff run last year but they don't remember that they were pretty average in the regular season. Virginia beat them 4-0, everyone handed the section crown to the Blue Devils, and two weeks later Hibbing beat them 5-0 to go to state.
Hibbing just got hot in the playoffs last year, which is what they need to be tomorrow if they want to go back to St. Paul.

I agree they had a good run last year, and really no one expected them to beat Virginia and they did, easily at that. (as much as it pains me still lol) But this years team is not last year's team, and when a team knows how to shut down Johnson, which I am sure D. Marshall will be able to do, they really aren't hard to beat. Goaltending is not very good, they take too many penalties and their D is average. I will gladly eat crow tomorrow if I am wrong but I just don't see it happening.rainier wrote:I agree the first round game would be a huge challenge for Hibbing, but I doubt two and out. Hopefully DM overlooks Hibbing as much as some of the fans. NEVER count out a Mark Decenzo coached team(great staff of coaches). All I'm saying.RangeHockeyFan1817 wrote:I agree they had a good run last year, and really no one expected them to beat Virginia and they did, easily at that. Congrats to the Hilltoppers, they won a tight game and earned their way to St. Paul. As much as I hate to watch them beat Hibbing, I will root for them at the X.
Hibbing has nothing to hang their heads about. They made it to the section final and played a good Marshall team very tough.
If Adam Johnson returns for his senor year, I expect to see these two teams at Amsoil next year too.

Was hoping to make it to this game today, but the lake effect left me snowbound and I had to settle for watching it on TV.
I was surprised Hibbing did as well as they did. Marshall did not wow me with their talent, but the defense did a great job of limiting second chances and their superior depth wore down the Bluejackets. Adam Johnson was certainly the most impressive player on the ice, but he couldn't do it alone, and at times it seemed like he was trying to. Before their late little flurry, it was obvious Hibbing was worn down. Still, congrats to them on a fine season.
Marshall may not really stand out in any area, but they have balance and defensive discipline; that's exactly what they'll need if they want to have a shot at Breck. If they play well they'll certainly have a shot at the upset.
