Another coach resigns

Interesting article. Seems to be a trend with this coach. Also seems to be a trend that the intimidating coaches are being thinned out.

They are being thinned out because kids and PARENTS are such whiners! I can not believe how often this is happening now, don't like something, lets all get together and complain until the coach is fired or resigns. This is the third time this year I've seen it happen, 2 with boys and 1 with girls. Now of course I don't want abusive people coaching, however when did yelling or at worst swearing become abusive? It was stated many times that he never touched the kids and very rarely swore (which more than a lot of high school coaches can say). They even already did an investigation and it didn't turn up anything. I only have the information from the article but it seems everyone who has worked WITH him, both at FHS and his other coaching positions, disagree with all of the accusations, and it is only parents or kids with hurt feelings who complain. Hurt feelings is not abusive! Kids sure need to toughen up, they are in for a rude awakening when they get in the real world and no one cares about their poor little feelings and whining doesn't get you what you want.curtiscurve wrote:http://www.faribault.com/content/fhs-bo ... -resigns-0

Range,
You're right, you don't have the information. I saw this guy several times during the season, and on many of those occasions he was completely out of control.
The coaches that are effective and loud do so as a calculated tool. This guy didn't use temper as a tool, temper controlled him.
I have no clue about locker room conduct, but his bench conduct should have been embarrassing to the people associated w/ Faribault hockey.

That doesn't seem to be any more information than the article had in it. I didn't say he wasn't loud or worked up on the bench, I just don't think it has to be a reason for him to resign. I have seen MANY coaches act a fool on the bench, particularly in tight games and I don't like to see it, but it happens. If it is such a problem, why did NONE of the people on his coaching staff at ANY of his previous positions, or this one, agree with the claims? If it is as bad as people make it out to be, you would think at least one person that wasn't a parent, would speak up for the kids; but that hasn't happened.woodley wrote:Range,

I don't know who would even want to coach high school hockey anymore, you look at a kid wrong and they go home and cry to mommy. Do parents ever stop to think anymore that if your kid is getting yelled at, they probably deserved it? Even the example given in the article was of kids who were not following directions and goofing off. I am so tired of excuses being made for kids, and by the way these aren't 10 year olds, they are 16-18!

I do agree that parents are getting too involved. I also look at the situation at hand. Here is a coach who was removed from his job 4 years ago for the same reasons coming off back to back section championships in his only two years there. Winning quiets the peanut gallery and the coaches job is usually safe, even if the coach is hated. Ask the Duluth East people and the warm cuddly coach up there

How about a coach who is voted Coach of the year for two different HS's and then takes a job with a smaller class A school and gets run out for running one line most of the time during a section finals game against Lourdes afew years ago. Then a new coach comes in and does the same thing for the majority of this season and those same parents whose siblings of those past players are playing now, and you don't hear a peep!
I played on a team under Coach Ryan a few years ago, not at Faribault though to clarify. I personally never had an issue with him at all. If he was ever intense (which was very seldom) there was justification to it. None of the boys on the team felt otherwise as well. He is a (former) coach of mine that I do my best to remain in touch with and I don't believe the issue is him in this case.
I know many players that have come out of the Faribault program and had played under Coach Ryan and none of them had a complaint about him, or his coaching for that matter.

I guess it would depend what the coach had to choose from?

Unfortunatly not many people are willing to step up and tell this to the people when they hear them whinning at the rink or other places.
