We're they invited to tryout for this 15's?

If not, how many players from their teams were invited those years?

Muck- yea invited- And that year Fl went to regions @ Bantam A, And he still didn't take any Fl kids. I think He does a great job coaching the team down there, But and no offense, it seems like his players get more props when it comes to the 15's than the resty of D2.

To me, this is a different story than those complaining of not getting asked to tryout.

Does the WB coach the District 2 15's every year? Does he get sole discretion as to who makes the team and who doesn't?

Has anyone brought this up at a District meeting?

Coaches every year, Fl does get treated fairly/ invites to tryouts, Don't know if he picks it himself or not. D2 cannot be approached about anything. Alot of the membership still wants to know how they lost $100,000

So who in D2 doesn't already know that you do not make their select 15 team without having a White Bear address.

"Complaining" - "Bee-atching"?

My kids are years off from the 15's..... The program is better than most, but as we've seen here, there are obvious flaws.

My point was that the major "complaint" about the process earlier in this thread was about the possibility of kids not being asked to tryout. I probably could've stated that better......

Does a player have to tryout in the district where they live or where they play? I know these usually are the same, but sometimes they are different. For example if a player from the sibley team this year lives outside of District 8, which district would they tryout in?

So after all this. It comes down to "the good old boys club" in D2.
I would agree with that from the invites to the final team.
So the 97's that didn't get in. Don't wait by the phone, Lucia may not be calling.

Puck,
The players tryout in the District of their residence not where they go to school.

There is approximately 50% turnover from the 15's to the 16's and a 50% turnover from the 16's to 17's. Getting your name in as a 15 helps only as far as the player's physical and mental development will take them, over the years I have seen bantam age players that were at the top at the first group and disappear from the lists by the time they are seniors, some did not grow physically others forgot about doing their studies and did not play after high school except in the bar leagues, others just went to college and not as hockey players.
I will also state that I have been watching this process before there was even the district team concept, it used to be called the Bantam Camp and the number of players a district could send was based on the number of registered teams a district had and the tryouts used to have 80 to 90 players for the 4 hours of tryouts. ,you would then pick the number of players you could send to St Cloud no other games or practices till they were at St Cloud.

15s try out for the District where there home address is.

16s and 17s is based on high school section.

Our bantam team got 5 spots with our record of play, but only 3 players were the correct age. So it isn't always just the GOBC.

I promoted Associations knowing their talent and ranking them for a good reason. I'll guess more kids are missed based on administrative foul ups than other reasons. Associations need to track their 97 players even though they've left the Association as it's still their responsibility to submit that players name even though he no longer skates for that Association or even in that District.

Associations, know and rank your kids every year. By "hockey class" and by birthyear.

Players return to their District, based on home residence, for 15s.

In Minnesota it's now called the Reebok High Performance process not Advanced or Selects.

It’s not a team sent to New York for the National Camp. Minnesota players are sent to the camp and divided among the teams.

Nope...Did your son's Bantam coach let you know that he was going to get an invite? If I recall, my son's coach let him know about it before we got the invite it the mail.

select 15 tryouts

Post by funmom »

I think D2 does a great job from start to finish with the tryout process for the 15s.I do know that their were four or five boys from fl that tried out last year. My son was one of them and I think it was a great experience . No complaints on how any one it was handled.

How can an association submit a player they are no longer associated with? How would they know how well he's been playing? Does the coach send the recommendation to the association and they in turn submit it?

District 3's are in the mail. Some have arrived. Our invite came Saturday. Other districts are probably coming soon. It's usually one guy per district doing all the work.

My kid made it to St. Cloud 102's last summer and he was a bantam b1. I believe there was only 2 b1's there. Rest were Bantam A's or high school players. He didn't make the new York team, but had a fun week, and had great coaching. And I thought the selection process for the new York team was pretty fair. I forgot to mention, we are from a small town that had no A team. If your kid is good enough, he will get noticed.
