Reebok High performance vs. Junior Festival

Post by goaliepad »

With limited time and resources, what would be the best for your daughter, the Reebok High Performance or the Junior Festival???

Having had a Daughter in Both, I think they are pretty equal in seeing scouts,
in the Rebok Select 16 an 17's to me seemed too expensive for what you get. The Team that I thought had the most talent and won the whole thing only had like 3 players advance to the next level. the team that took 5th ( and they were dominated!) had 8-9 go to the next level. Here is where some might choose to disagree! they know who they want to go on to the next level. The Jr. Fest and Sr. fest are not the cheapest either for what you get and the best does not always get a chance to show what they have.
I know kids that got to the Fests because who their coaches were not because they were the best. the Rebok will cost you to get to the final 54 $80+$170 +$170 for a total $420 the fest is $50 for tryout $225 for 5 games Don't get me wrong my Daughter had a great time at all of them, But her pockets are deeper than mine, or so she thinks :D I would let her choose but I think if she got invited to the Jr. Fest she will have less commitment and less heart ache! and still be seen. Simply because in the Rebok she will get cut even if it made no sense whatsoever, unless she is one of the top 20 kids her age or your coach is really involved! So do what all good parents do just sign the check! and let her enjoy the moment.

IMHO if your daughter is on a track to play past high school then the High Performance camp is important exposure if she can make it to the final 54. There are more scouts from a wider range of colleges in both DI-DIII. The Jr festival is also scouted but to a lesser degree and well run. It's a great opportunity for players who do not get to play with other peers much during the year.

I've seen interest taper off for HP at the Junior level--if players didn't make it to Mankato as a Fresh, or the final 54 as a Soph, and didn't make national camp either year, they may deem it not worth their time to go through the process again. The bar gets raised for 17's--i.e., fewer players make it to national camp. But the HP National camp is the real deal for both players and college scouts, and if she has a legit shot at it... congrats!

More MN players commit to D1 programs each year than make it to national camp in any given age class. Plus how many D3 commits? Clearly there are other routes to college hockey than making national camp.

I can't comment on puckskillz observation on recruiting at final 54 compared to Jr. Fest. No reason to doubt him, though...

Good luck!
