Horton after the game

At the end of the celebration the team skated over to him and took a picture with Horton holding the trophy. I don't know if anyone already said this because I didn't read all the way through. But the team did take a picture with him at the end of the game.

The MSHSL. It has a rule barring any ejected player from taking part in a trophy ceremony. When asked about it in the press conference, Pauly said he understood why the rule exists but "would like to see some humanity out there."

Similar situation for last year's AA 3rd place game...an Eagan and Edina player were both tossed in 3rd period after a fight, and when game ended MSHSL wouldn't let Eagan kid back on the ice to get his 3rd place medal. Team photo was taken in locker room afterwards.

Eagan kid didn't come back out of the locker room to shake hands or smile for cameras with trophy in hand. But I don't know if that was MSHSL not being consistent last night, or if it was a coach's disciplinary decision that wasn't mirrored by Pauly last night.

I was going to say...Pauly didnt discipline the kid. The MSHSL did!! I have no problem with what happened after the game for #16. He was chirping all night and took it one step to far. I hope he uses it as a learning opportunity.

How embarrassed was his mother?

As for jabs...Thats the MSHSL at its best. Complete a joke. The whole crowd was waiting for him to come on the ice.

At the same time, pretty special moment for Pieper from Hill Murray.

Agree, what is the MSHSL afraid of? The whole state is behind Jabs and this is the biggest showcase and they can't bend their policy? Complete joke? My heart goes out for the Pieper kid, special moment.

Agreed! Jabs needed to be on the ice. Poor move by the MSHSL. What happened in the game shouldn't carry over after the game.

Instead of focusing on Horton what about Guentzel taking his medal off? Classy move by a team that was completely over-matched. HM was over coached. HM tried to come out and play a physical game, but as the HM coach elaborated during the game the kids weren't playing HM hockey. That's because playing physical backfired. Playing physical resulted in Besse burning your defense for 5 goals.

I certainly hope no HM defenseman made the all tourney team. Id so that would be a joke. None of them could even compete with Besse.

Keep in mind the MSHSL already had the BSM team picture in the trophy after the game. And YES! Horton was in the picture.

I'll say it again... the knock against BSM has always been lack of class.

Between Horton and Labosky (among others noted) last night was just another joke from a self acclimated program. Did they win state... yes. Are they a model hockey program... no.

BSM faithful trying to get respect and compassion for their player's lack of class.

Are we surprised Pauly asked "where's the humanity" in defense of Horton?
Are we shocked at the BSM faithful's defensive response?

I will never forget 3 years ago between periods at the section semifinal with Tonka at BIG. BSM had fallen behind, and as the Tonka players waited for BSM to skate off the ice, a BSM player threw a hard punch to a Tonka player's head from behind (I think maybe it was Justin Holl), sending him to the ice. All of this was carefully done while the refs weren't looking, of course. Any action by Pauly? What do you think?

what's "not right" about being consistent with the rules in a case where this kid make a dumb mistake?

kind of a bummer that his coach sort of defended him - I can think of a number of coaches who probably wouldn't have been so dismissive. could be wrong i guess..

MSHL needs to get a clue on what the sport of hockey means to the kids and people of the State of Hockey. If they said no to allowing Jabs on the ice then that just proves how heartless and clueless the MSHL Board/Staff is. Everyone in the building and everyone watching on TV was looking to seeing him on the ice with his teammates.
I have no problem with #16 not being allowed on the ice to take a picture or celebrate of get his medal. A DQ is a DQ no matter if it is the 1st game of the state finals.

i dunno about heartless... maybe just clueless for upholding a rule too strictly and not having flexibility when they need to. i share your sentiment though.

It's ironic that the MSHSL insisted on strict enforcement of a rule that kept Jabs off the ice at the end of the Tourney, given that during the Tourney they were clearly not worried about strict enforcement of the rule changes that they rushed through in response to his injury.

I don't condone what the BSM kid did, but I think the H-M kid totally dove and embellished it. And to be honest, I thought #16 for H-M was the biggest goon on the ice and should have been called for numerous shot to the head penalties.

More like best (clean) hitter on the ice. Him and Connor Sampair, #15. Even Lou Nanne (a guy I am sure is more schooled on the game than you) said they were literally all clean hits. This isn't a sport for someone who fights for the pink team, you know.

Surely you know that pee-wee hitting has just been outlawed in the state? Christ our America and Minnesota has gone completely soft, wussified.

The BSM kids were attempting to duck under every single hit, particularly Labosky, who is short to begin with, so a hit that would be chest or waste high ends up hitting them in the head. Hill plays an aggressive, in-your-face style of hockey in the big games. When they won state in 2008 that's how they beat Roseau and Edina.

Sour grapes! The benilde players are great kids that play hard. Hockey is hockey. All of a sudden if Benilde does it, they are a bad program. Oh no they got a penalty, what a bunch of classless players. Come on, just cause they won state and will win again next year if all their guys come back doesnt mean you all have to be haters. Grow up! There is not a better leader in high school hockey than jake horton.
