2012 VFW Bantam 'A' State Tournament
I see the Bantam 'A' state tournament for VFW is being held in Elk River this year at the end of March the 24th through the 26th I believe. I know Warroad beat Moorhead in the championship of District 9, does anyone know who else will be competing in this tournament next month? I know Roseau is the defending champion and after looking at the VFW site, they have won an impressive 9 State Titles since the tourney started in the 1956.

Duluth East will represent VFW district 8 in Elk River this year. East lost their 1st game to Gr rapids 2-1 in OT on Friday then beat Hibbing 8-1 & Cloquet 8-4 on Sat. Sunday East beat Gr. Rapids 4-1 then again 3-2 to get the State birth. Games had an "old school" "up north" "range style" of play both on & off the ice. Regions should be interesting with all 4 VFW teams meeting in Two Harbors this weekend.

At least 5 of the 6 teams will have a chance. Why would you even go crbantamacoach?CRBantamAcoach wrote:District 7 (in Elk River) Round Robin March 8-11mn miracle man wrote:Does anybody else have any information to report on Districts around the state? Looking at the record in the district this year, you didn't win ONE game. The only team in all of District 10 without a win. You should have thought harder about the level you played this year.

And it took .Centennial 5 overtimes to knock them out of districts.........loveitorleaveit wrote:At least 5 of the 6 teams will have a chance. I guess you could say they did not have success in the district but how did they do in non-district games and tournaments? Did the players improve because they played at this level instead of the B1 level. There are many things you can look at before you look at wins and loses. But I guess in your eyes winning is the only way to judge success. Maybe your the type of people that ruin hockeyloveitorleaveit wrote:At least 5 of the 6 teams will have a chance. What's your point? That they were correct in having an A level team?puckhead58 wrote:And it took .Centennial 5 overtimes to knock them out of districts.........loveitorleaveit wrote:At least 5 of the 6 teams will have a chance. How did the kids feel about it ?? that age is old enough to tell you. What are they only going to have a JV team next year ?? If your CR you have to go A at the Bantam level, because next year you will be playing in the Subwestcon. Plus if you don't have an A team you will have more kids heading to Blaine.

OldGoalie...Are you saying the CR Youth is going Subwestcon? Or is the HS moving to a different conference?old goalie85 wrote:How did the kids feel about it ?? that age is old enough to tell you. So far these are the teams that are going to be playing:
District 1: ?
District 2: Lakeville North
District 3: Brainerd
District 4: White Bear Lake
District 5: Alexandria or Willmar
District 6: St. Cloud
District 7: Centennial
District 8: Duluth East
District 9: Warroad
Host: Elk River
I am pretty sure both St. Cloud and Brainerd can't play in the tourney, isn't the 10th team always the host team? Which is Elk River this year?

The VFW Districts are different than the MN Hockey Districts. This link has a map.St. Cloud is representing Dist 6 and Brainerd (Dist 6 runner up) is representing Dist 3 (SW MN). Appearently Dist 3 does not send any teams to state. Last year Dist 2 sent 2 teams to the state VFW. I guess this year it was Dist 6's turn....
