Not that Besse's career is going to follow the same trajectory as Spehar's (who was a good, but not great, college player), but it does look like he is going to be equally over-hyped heading into college. It is going to lead to expectations that will be tough for the kid to meet.
That's why I'm suggesting people wait until they see what he's able to do next year before making any comparisons or assumptions.

The colleges and pros do condition their players (weights) to get them up.
Pretty sure there's a Justin Kloos topic somewhere. I believe the title here is Besse. Let's celebrate these two outstanding players as everyone can agree they're two of the best in the State.

It's funny because all players have differences and presumed weaknesses. You can shoot holes in Crosby and Ovechkin, considered the two best players in the world two years ago, if you look hard enough.

I believe the original "topic" wasn't as much Grant Besse as it was why the Gophers didn't recruit him. Justin Kloos is a factor in that. Agree though, both great players.

Far more complete than Besse, though Besse is improving in his own end.
Agree that this thread was about Grant and the absolutely stunning year/tourney he had. I said earlier and stand by it now that he is the best pure high school goal score I've seen in a very long time.
Oh, and for you Sats...Justin likes pancakes in the morning and loved sponge bob as a kid.

Then you clearly didn't watch him play in the USHL last spring for Waterloo. His play in the d-zone was great. He played extremely responsible and LS needed him to do what he does best (score and create offense consistently) for them to have a chance. He will adapt to what the team needs him to do. His hockey IQ is extremely high.

FYI: When LS played HM in head to head competition Charlie Sampair stopped Kloos cold, playing defense for the game, a position he hasn't played since squirts. I'd like to see Kloos Stop Sampair at 6-1 and 190 while Sampair plays forward for the game and Kloos plays defense...Sampair had a role to fill this year helping some young D, and when the D where out sick (Heinrick) he stepped in and helped his team win against LS--and deposited Kloos in the back of the net. Kinda of sick and tired of hearing Sampair is an OK High School Player. He is a Team player first and foremost, he has the best speed and hands in the state, and he led his team in goals all the while playing both ways hard. Just ask the kid from maple Grove that ended up in the players box when Sampair thought it was time for that kid to have a line change...Besse and Kloos did not do that this year....but they sure scored alot of goals.

I believe he is talking about to a certain Grand Rapids player who had a breakout State Tourny and never really developed well with the Gophs.

Ah yes, another great example of why it's dangerous to put too much emphasis on one tourney.
In Patrick White's defense, I don't think all the emphasis was put on the tourney. He had a very good HS career (other than the state tourney) and was a proven scorer all the way up in youth. If you wanna rip the U for taking him, don't forget to consider he was a first round NHL draft pick too, obviously there were others that saw potential in him too.

Not ripping the Gophers or the kid at all. Kids develop differently and at different time. Not every recruit works out. Happens to every program.
