I assume that the all state team is made up of kids off the teams that played in the state tourney? Do you plan on putting out a top Peewee list like the top bantam list that is out? where is Freddy writing these days? Haven't seen posts from him in a while.

No this is not made up of only State Tournament Teams, did you look at the list?

This is a solid list and hard to argue with it, too bad for all the negativity that has been posted on this topic.

These players all deserve some credit for their accomplishments this year.

Seriously, now we want the order?

While we wait for that, let’s check in on the Granite Falls Mite Jamboree All State Team!! Keep your eye on the kid who had three shutouts by laying down across the goal mouth. SSM is on hold as we speak.

Give me a break………….I'll assume the list of individuals was put together by the same author who couldn't stop writing about Centennial last month. Funny, the Cougars don't make it to state and the only list they're on is an endangered list. The best part about Pee Wee hockey is “change.” Some where in MN there is a Pee Wee in only his third year of competitive hockey. In 7 years he will be playing for the Gophers along side a former Pee Wee B1.

Prior Lake won in Alex because they have the best and most balanced TEAM. No question they have a few individuals at the head of the class, but that alone does not win a title. There were several teams at State that thought they could win it with 2 studs, but we all know how that ended (a never ending thread centered around a large goalie comes to mind).

By publishing such a list, our job of coaching the philosophy of “team” becomes near impossible. For now, let the Grandparents handle the recognition of the 12-13 year olds.

Seriously. Lets see where most of these kids are by the time they are 15-16. I will wager that few of them on this list even play d-1 hockey. They are in 6th and 7th grade, half of the kids playing haven't even hit puberty! Talk to me in a few years when it can be taken a bit more seriously.

Funny I am looking at the list and there is not one 99 Blade kid listed on the list
Some of those kids have to be included on the best of list wouldn't you think?
Matt Anderson probably had over 100 points and played on a below 500 team. In D6. ( No Im not his dad) don't want to call kids out but the ranker that did this list has a small view of Peewee hockey if he thinks this is The best players in the state. Is # 9 from Chaska on the list? I don't know his name but another kid that took his team further than they should have gone.

I'm still looking for an answer from my original questions. How is this list made and who makes it??
Minnesota’s Peewee “A” All-State Team

#8 KEVIN FELLOWS (F)– PRIOR LAKE

#6 SAM HUFF (F)– OSSEO/MAPLE GROVE

#15 HENRY ENEBAK (F) – LAKEVILLE SOUTH

#27 BEN MEYER (F)– CROW RIVER

#17 GRANT MISHMASH (F) – EDINA

#14 AUSTIN PRATT (F)– LAKEVILLE SOUTH

#6 NATE HORN (F) – ELK RIVER

#3 JACK KELLY (D)– OSSEO/MAPLE GROVE

#15 SCOTT REEDY (F) – PRIOR LAKE

#4 MATT VALURE (F) – HERMANTOWN

#5 JOSH ESS (D) – LAKEVILLE SOUTH

#31 DAYTON RASMUSSEN (G) – EDEN PRAIRE

#31 BEN MEYERS (G) – ELK RIVER

#18 NOLAN SULLIVAN (F) – EDEN PRAIRE

#42 TODD SCOTT (G) – STMA

#9 JAKE PARISEAN (F) – ROCHESTER RED

#9 MATT STANTON (F) – STILLWATER

#13 COLTON MURPHY (D) – WAYZATA BLUE

#10 REED SMITH (F/D) – LAKEVILLE SOUTH

Above is the MHR list. I'm sure all are very talented players. Based on observations (from last summer), the five players noted earlier won't have any problem adjusting to the increased level of physical play at the Bantam A level (can't speak for the rest because I haven't watched them play as much as those noted).

Even in past years (when checking was allowed in PeeWee's)...my assessment has been (that) the adjustment from a physical standpoint from PeeWee A to Bantam A is a slightly bigger adjustment than from Bantam A to HS Varsity.

Got a feeling that adjustment gap will only be wider going forward...based on the USA mandated rule changes at the PeeWee level.
I'm just a little uncomfortable with a list like this at the Peewee A level. There are some very obvious names on this list that everyone knows about. The problem is, there are some names on the list that are not even the 2nd or 3rd best players on their teams. The top kids on their teams are not mentioned. I suppose if they had a great game one night and the top player has a down night it is possible??? I love the the 2nd and 3rd ranked players on these teams but the list can be a little off if you ask me. Maybe you should ask all coaches who their top three players are at mid-season next year and then go watch these top players yourself. The list is just not needed at peewee's.
MN Hockey Report came up with a list of players the author (or author's) thought stood out this past winter. To use a Denny Green quote twisted in the opposite direction...I don't think the purpose of this list was to "CROWN EM". It's just MHR's opinion. Does that make it the official MN State PWA team...NO.

There are several players who nobody is going to argue about as the top PWA's in MN...I noted 5 who are at or near the top. But it doesn't guarantee future success for any of the players.

Josh Levine of Bloomington Jefferson started a recent MN Youth hockey forum titled "How to develop a great hockey player". I'm sure Josh has tremendoud insight on this subject He is (or just finished) playing hockey at Princeton...an accomplishment both athletically and academically that I'm sure he and his parents are proud of.

But another side to Josh's story (and I don't think he would dispute this)...is that as a 2nd year PeeWee A...he was considered (by many people) to be (arguably) the best PWA forward in MN back in 2001-2002. Five years later I saw him play in the HS Elite League and Josh was a darn good player...but no longer on the top of the heap.

That said...I don't see any harm in MHR coming out with this list...might be a few players who didn't make the list who will take some motivation from being excluded and cause them to work harder this summer. Obviously it's the parents (or pundits) who get their noses bent out of shape. I just don't see what the big deal is.

True, no one should watch them, there shouldn't be a state tournament for this age, nothing until they are 15 or 16 right ?

This list isn't hurting anyone, it's not a big deal to make the list.

MA of Roseville is NOT listed on the 99 Blades roster either. Probably missed some bu had many also right ... like most "best" lists ever made.

The list doesn't hurt anyone. Just like rankings no one person is going to get it 100% right. There are some kids left off the list. No biggie!

Keep in mind the kids are only 12-13 years old. A lot is going to change in the next few years. You also have to factor in that some of these players are playing for loaded teams. Good players make other players better.

As for the Chaska team. You must be thinking of # 6. He did good in the D6 playoffs but I wouldn't say he carried the team. I don't think he even led the team in points. Lets just say we had some unexpected players show up for the playoffs. Fun to watch!

The name is Grant Mismash.

What is #6 for Chaska's name?

Since the protocol appears to have changed, let's get these 12 year olds names on the forums.

Pee Wee Player of the Year

Post by GoLakers »

I know I am from PL and I am biased but I would consider Kevin Fellows the player of the year in Pee Wee Hockey. Another kid I would consider was Casey Mittelstadt #11 of Eden Prairie and he wasn't even on the list for All-State. Every game I watched EP play he had a goal or two including against us.

I will agree with you on your first point, Fellows best player I watched all year with out a doubt. As far as #11 from EP that's a no, maybe top 5 on his team but not tops in talent wise in the State.

#18, #11, and the goalie drove that team. #11 not in the top five on that team? You are clearly not seeing the ice clearly.

The best peewee A player in Minnesota is Alex Romulus. Alex is a true leader. He is an all-around player who has rocket speed, amazing skating ability, great hands, a fast, hard and accurate shot, and sees the ice better than anyone who has ever played the game. Romulus has great physical presence. At age 12, he is six feet tall, 170 pounds.

Romulus treats every practice like a tryout; he never quits a drill. And, Romulus always listens to his coaches. He is universally liked by his teammates and their parents. In a 36 minute game, Romulus is on the ice for 39 minutes. This season, he has 150 goals, 225 assists, and his goals against average in the 10 games where he played goalie is 3.14. At the end of every game, Romulus drives the Zamboni and then shoots one thousand pucks.

Romulus plays for the Wolfpack; he is coached by his dad, Wolfie. (If you have to ask about the Wolfpack, you don't understand youth hockey and are new to this blog. Suffice it to say, according to ancient writings, the Wolfpack is the premier youth hockey team.) Romulus has DI offers from Notre Dame, Boston College, and Vatican City. Romulus is projected to be the number one pick in the 2017 NHL draft. When he is not on the ice or at the rink, Romulus likes to play with his pet hamster. He favors milk and cookies and is afraid of the dark and crazy people who start threads about the best 12-year old hockey players in the State.

Karl, in his role as gatekeeper of this blog, has warned us all that there is an unwritten rule on this blog: Do not post the names and numbers of kids on the Youth Hockey Blog. Wait until they play high school hockey and then post their names and numbers on the High School Hockey Blogs.

Agreed. EP #11 has always been at the top of our class and this year was no different (not ashamed of identifying my loyalties early on). Eagles fans cannot disagree.

As long as we are discussing #11’s not on the Pee Wee list, how about Centennial #11 and/or Hermantown #11? Strong, smart players that make a difference on every shift.

Officially tired of the Elks……………We played ER 6 times in various tournaments this year and #4 must have tallied at least 25 total points. Don’t know if he is a first or second year player, but I’d like to not see him for a while. Maybe he had our number, but if he consistently did that to EP, I can only imagine what he did to the rest of District 10.

Best of luck to all the kids. Job well done!!!!!!!

How many Wayzata kids would be on the list if they dominated their way through the season with one team? Do kids get lost in the shuffle in smaller programs?
