To stay on topic was the Sunday tryout just call backs from the first day or was it used as a second tryout to give Machine kids an opportunity when they didn't have a scheduled practice?

Two kids from here went to try out for a team. Called back a month or so later for another round. More flights. Also, at age 10 kids aren't going without mom and/or dad.

As for the one that ultimately made it, the fun is just beginning. Tournament last weekend (flights) and more on the way (more flights), plus some practices (flights), and then the capper - about a week in Edmonton, 3,000 miles away. (I'm assuming flights, but the ambitious could drive and spend the same amount on gas.)

Minnesotans don't understand the money spent to play reasonably high-level hockey in other parts of the country. That family is hardly unusual down here.

Anyone from this board have their child tryout this weekend? Our tryouts lasted over 7 weekends. Definitely took its toll on the kids and the parents lol.
Will the Blades go with their Brick roster at the Stars and Stripes or do they wait till later on in the spring before skating together as the Brick team?

I really don't care how people spend their money. Not the point I was commenting on.

The Blades shouldn't have to bring in kids from all over to be able to compete in tournaments. We are Minnesota not Florida.

Pick a team and develop the players on the team.

The Blades continue to advertise all of their "high profile" coaches.... Then "Coach" the team you are given. Don't just bring in a goalie from accross the country because you are not happy with your 9 year old goalie's performance. Last season 02' Blades team went 0-5 in Winnipeg. They then changed roster (Cut Players and brought in others) to compete in remaining tournaments. Come on. A bunch of Ex-Nhl, Ex-Pro, Ex-D1 coaching at the Blades. Bunch of "Smoke and Mirrors". COACH kids you have......

As a Blades parent, are you happy with using out of state players to win? I think it should make you wonder what you are getting. On top of it, the Blades really don't appear to be winning many tournaments!!!

Maybe if they could bring the true top kids from MN at that age group they wouldn't have to look elsewhere.

I can understand both sides of the issue though, the Blades use the Brick as a big recruiting tool and want to keep the tournament team associated with their brand. The Made's primary competition for young talent is the Blades so they don't want to help their competition. You would think for the sake of MN Hockey and the desire to have a good showing at the Brick each year these two sides could find a way to compromise and work together, but after reading this board for the past 2-3 years I'm not holding my breath.

That is like asking Coke and Pepsi to work together. They are competing businesses. If there was a business incentive for them to work toghether they would.

I'd say it is the Brick's fault, for letting a largely uncompetitive team continue to enter, without their local area's top talent. And for the record the 2002 Blades ---- 0 Tournament Championship's..... Just keepin' em honest.....

Feeling picky today -- so your opinion is that the Machine has the top talent and the Blades don't? or is you point that without the Machine kids, not as much of the top local talent is at the Brick? Just trying to understand your perspective. Having seen these two teams play each other last year during the Caribou, the top 5-6 forwards on each team are interchangeable talent wise, as are the top few defensemen.

opinion is rather simple.... go ahead and try to compete with kids in minnesota's top50 (as has been done with Blades).... if that ain't working maybe another entity should get involved to ensure Top 20 talent is going to represent Minnesota well... that's all.....
