NAPS Tournament in Chicago this weekend

Post by JSR »

The North American Prospects Tourney is in Chicago this weekend. Looks like it took over the old Cougar Classic. The format looks kind of odd and the way the brackets are set up the teams are unidentifiable. Anyone know anything about this tourney and/or the format they are running and the teams involved???

I think there are going to be some surprised people when they realize what the format is.

I can't figure out the schedule either. Looks like they assigned colors to teams and only put the actual names in for a few of them. Hopefully this gets updated tomorrow.

2 - 20 minute periods in pool play and then 2 - 15 minute periods for playoff round!!!!!!

Kind of not worth the $1500. Hopefully the competition is good.

It's not terrible IF you are one of the two teams that make it to the championship game because you end up getting 7 games out of the deal but if you don't make it out of pool play and you only get 4 shortened games then it probably feels like its kind of not worth it compared to other tournaments

That's crazy and a huge money grab as it's a giant tourney. I come in around $380,000 gross (16 levels x 16 teams x $1500) and they had to shorten the games? MN tourneys are three 17 to 20 minute stop time periods.

Also, Minnesota teams do not have to go to Chicago to find competition. Plenty of solid tourneys here. Skip it. Let them travel here.

Did they drop the "Cougar Classic" name because creepy guys with fetishes kept showing up?

$380,000 Gross revenue. $400 per game expense. Net $125,000. That doesn't count the $20 tournament pass!

Money vs. Brains.

Your numbers are not close. There are not 16 teams at 16 levels. There are a total of about 140 teams, not 256. Ice in the Chicago area is upwards of $400/hour so your per game costs are off as well when you count refs. Plus trophies, programs, insurance, etc.

Are they still making good money? Yes. But not as much as you think.

I can't get the quote thing to work right. Help?

I don't think the fact that they are making money is the problem. The thing that jumps out at me is why not give the kids/parents full games???
