I actually disagree with the premise. If 3 of the 7 coaches with 500 wins are currently active (with a 4th being forced out last year) and several others are within striking distance, that would suggest that this sort of longevity is becoming
more common. Of course, given the higher stakes in high school sports, there still may be more turnover today than there was 30 years ago; maybe it's just that the most successful stick around longer nowadays.
At any rate, still well-written and thoughtful.
