So, what I'm hearing is a kid in an association that doesn't offer an A team will still be able to wavier to one that does. Correct?greybeard58 wrote:over 40
The teams will still be registered as either A,B1,B2 and C. AA/A does not split until the District tournament so if an association declares either AA or A the teams are still registered as A Teams.

The District rule should be written to say, The closest association in the same District. So, what I'm hearing is a kid in an association that doesn't offer an A team will still be able to wavier to one that does. Correct?
It needs to happen. Will that cost an A spot to a player from the Association taking in that A level player from the neighboring one? Yes. But parents need to know their player will have a better experience being one of the top players on the B team than being the weakest on the A. No question.
Recruit, recruit, recruit and it'll never happen again.

Then the new rule will hurt kids in small associations.MrBoDangles wrote:Greybeard is trying to say that you'll have a tough time.greybeard58 wrote:It would be best to check with your association president and District Director for the correct answer.
Tim Timm will tell you no waivers in District 10 per phone call.
In district 3 not 10 but, will probably be the same answer I'm guessing.

The only place to get the correct information is from first the association president and the district director. If you call any District Director first, you will be sent back to your association president.
Bo speak for yourself and quit trying to put a false spin on my words, you do not have the correct answer or the correct facts either,in the past 2 years players from associations in District 10 that did not field an A team got waivers to try out with another association, if they met the standards such a placing in the top 5-8 were allowed to stay if not returned to play B1 at their home assn.

Bo,
According to Mn Hockey Waiver process both the releasing and receiving president must sign the waiver,if the releasing association says no then the next step is to appeal which needs to be in writing to the District Director.
Last year D10 had 11 associations field an A Squirt team, 12 A Peewee and 13 A Bantam teams.
As for Tim T answer until the appeal is filed he is following procedure. The participation rule is being changed and will be voted on at the Mn Hockey June meeting, if what I have heard is true.

Tim T's approach was to make it seem impossible. So following procedure is trying to deter kids from waiving out to play at the proper level of competition? Why is District 10 so against it?greybeard58 wrote:Bo,

What is the vote going to be for?

From the District 10 handbook:Waiver request forms are obtained from the Association Presidents.
See MN Hockey website for the newest policy on residency and participation.
This is a Mn Hockey rule which is enforced by the District Directors. Also Associations all have different policies concerning players waiving both in and out. If the association president followed their by-laws and denied the request,or if policy was not followed and no written appeal was filed with the District Director then it is finished there.
What association and what level?

Doesn't sound like I was putting words in your mouth by saying it was not an easy (frowned upon) process.......greybeard58 wrote:From the District 10 handbook:Waiver request forms are obtained from the Association Presidents.

Hockey's Third World Heaven and PeeWee.
I hope you're working for kids so they're able to develop to their fullest potential at the right level..

Anyone know how the AA / A split will work in the outstate districts?
D16 only has 2 AA HS teams, Bemidji & Roseau (opt up), so do they play a 1 game championship for the auto to Regions and the other hopes to get an at large bid?
D15 AA has moorhead & brainerd
D11 AA has cloquet & duluth
D12 AA has grand rapids
Is there a plan for re-alignment?

Bo,
I was telling the person where to get the best information for his question no more no less, you added the statement of "trying to say you will have a hard time" which I did not. Those are your words not mine, giving people the proper place for answers does not equate with a hard time. The hard time would be getting the wrong information from people who do not have a clue, then wasting their time and then still having go to the proper channels!!!

If you're lucky enough to get your association president to ok it, you'll then have the likes of Tim Timm at D10 trying to block it.
Tell it how it really is next time.

Is having to place in the top 5 or 8 another way to snuff it out? Why wouldn't it be being one of the top 15. MN Hockey knows they don't have a place for these kids, so they simply sweep them under the rug by trying to discourage it.greybeard58 wrote:The only place to get the correct information is from first the association president and the district director. How is it for these kids to return if they don't make the top 5?

No, the level the Cisar's played did NOT hurt their development. They are able to compete with the best HS players in the State. Yet their TEAM can't because the talent level of the entire team is not equal to the Cisar's. And their teammates did not magically get better playing with the Cisar's.
I am not all over the board! You suggested I move my PW A player to the C level? His appropriate level based on his ability, in our association, was the A level.
BUT, if our association only fielded a B level team, my kid would have played B hockey and would have developed just fine.
You seem to think player magically get better being on the ice with better players. That isn't true. You are finding that with your AAA experience.

Hilarious
So how the regular season is going to be arranged? Let us say in d6, Edina, EP, and PL field 3-4 A level teams at Peewee and Bantam, Kennedy and others field 1 A team. We all can be certain that Edina, EP, and PL will have one strongest A team (the current A team before this A/AA mess), and the other 2-3 A teams will be their current B teams.YouthHockeyHub wrote:As I've stated...this new system helps the Big 9 (Edina, Wayzata, OMG, Stillwater, Moorhead, Rochester, Woodbury, White Bear, and Minnetonka). Their 16-30 players now get a chance to wear an A sweater instead of B1.
It also will reduce the number of blow outs in the Regional tournaments and in theory give more competitive balance at the A and B level regional and state tournaments.
It will have no effect on the middle class AA teams (LVN, LVS, Eastview, Jefferson, Chaska/Chan, Forest Lake, etc). It will be a huge benefit to a few other class A youth associations (Orono, Delano, Waconia, etc).
The positives far outweigh the negatives.

You used to have 10-12 teams at the A level in each district, now you have maybe 20's. Understand B level teams had to deal with the number issues in the past, but we all know we look at A and B hockey differently.
So will Kennedy play Edina's strongest A team, or all the 3-4 teams?
Will Edina A teams play one another? All in the regular season?
How about the association hosted tournament? Guess all the host association will have some good time to determine which team is at what
level?
Will a strong association be allowed to send more than one team to the AA state tournaments?

...but this new system could and I think will really increase the number of lopsided blowout games during the regular season and tournaments because these AA teams will be playing games against teams made up of kids that would have been B1 in the past system.Mnhockeys wrote:So how the regular season is going to be arranged? What's wrong with requiring associations to field a certain number of A level teams based on a number (50 or 80, etc.). That way you are really balancing the playing field for associations and bringing more kids into the top level. The AA/A model just reinforces that Edina/Maple Grove etc. are the best and will always win. A truly balanced system would open championship hopes to many more associations and maintain the top level of play we have today.
