Not to worry. This is but one of many paths to a future in this game. Congrats to the kids who made it!! Is it political...absolutely, get used to it, everything in life is!! To the ones who didn't make it, don't let this be the end of the line. Keep working hard and improve your own game the best you can. This program has almost a 50% turnover from 15's to 17's your window will come, when it does, be ready for it.
Re: Select 15 picks
USA hockey and MN hockey are doing a fantastic job! USA U-18 s have won 4 GOLDS in a row. A kid needs to not only outperform on the ice but also off the ice. You could probably send 44 kids to NEWYORK from MN.Bruins wrote:Sweet, very touching, altough not true. There are some players that will never get the shot because of being from a smaller association or lack of name recognition. How many players were from D3 and D6? I think it was pretty lopsided. "Hungrier, work hard, positive attitude", sometimes thats just not enough. I would like to tell the the kids that outperformed kids on this list that the future does look bright though. No, you wont get picked for 16s or 17s. Soon there will be coaches that look for talent because there job depends on it. Ask yourself this, if these evaluators had to pick a team that could compete against the rest of the USA or Canada and their jobs depended on it would you see the same list??? Of course not. Some kids do deserve to be on the list, some do not........life isnt fair, this won't be the first or the last time. This is the real lesson.BigBear wrote:It is an agonizing process, picking the top players to represent MN at any age level, lets not forget that. It is not an exact science, but these folks know what they are doing. It is my hope that a player not selected will be HUNGRIER and continue to train, work hard, and keep a positive attitude.
The one who is cut could be our strongest player to represent MN and beyond in the near future.
Lets support the kids who were selected and lay off with the negativity and excuses.

Re: National 15 list
Sounds like your admitting that at least one choice was foul...? The whole system is then skewed if ANY political picks are allowed to be made.spin-o-rama wrote:One boy took how many people's places?hockeyoldtimer wrote:Sorno and out of town,
Those are all great sentiments and life lessons for our kids about life not being fair. No one wants to pick on the one boy but how about all the boys who are alternates or didn't make it because they don't live in Wayzata or Edina or go to a school Minnesota Hockey frowns on. No one wants to say it, but we all know it's true. Yes let's be happy for the ones who made it but we should also be sad for the ones who truly deserved to go.
If Minnesota sent a "team" of truly our best, it would be amazing.
What are you trying to say?

15 National List
BigBear, welcome to the forum. Feeling a little guilty that your kid one of the undeserving picks? Or are you one of the evaluators who did such a fabulous job of unbiased selection? PLEASE! Cut the crap. There were kids at all positions who got the nod over other kids for political reasons. EVERY POSITION!!! Not just one small forward.
I know hard work, blah , blah, blah. Will make them hungrier, etc. Maybe it will make them go elsewhere where they have a more fair chance.
I know there were many evaluators watching the kids and making recommendations. Who made the final decisions ? The program directors and the machine that is Minnesota hockey.

Took them long enough to post. I was up and saw a lot of the games. Congrats to the kids. It was a blast watching the hockey and seeing the competition come out as the kids tried to make it to the next level. It was clean fast hockey. I wish they could duplicate that in normal games.greybeard58 wrote:Reebok MN Hockey High Performance 15 boys National Camp Selections

By the way I am no expert but did create a "list" of my own and 13 of the 20 were on that list. I didn't know a lot of the kids and just did it for fun. Finally for those that doubted me and my expertise i did say that the Klaers Kid was doing well. Once again NOT MY KID...

No I did not have a skater down in St.Cloud last week. I watch good hockey-no Great hockey in person as much as possible. Yes, it is disconcerting that folks like yourself are upset over the selections made. My point however, is that it is not the end of the line for any skater not selected. As stated in previous posts there are lots of avenues for a skater to advance in our #1 sport of Hockey. Your comments are reminiscent of 1980, when 20 guys from out east and 200 guys from mn were not sent to the olympics..........

Are you kidding me!!! You didnt go to the arena just to watch 15 year old boys play hockey. You should know you only get to plug your kid once per topic.

Which is it?
So the arrows were out when one boy made it and the charge was that you had to be from Edina or Wayzata or something like that and if you weren't you just don't have a fair chance.
Now the list comes out officially and there was a spot for the Big Se'xay. Isn't he from Luverne?
So much for the gotta-be-from-Edina argument.
Congrats to him and the rest. And an equal amount of congrats to those not picked. Chances are you worked just as hard and are equally deserving.

You nailed it! "Equally" and even a little more deserving doesn't cut it when up against a mega association kid.O-townClown wrote:So the arrows were out when one boy made it and the charge was that you had to be from Edina or Wayzata or something like that and if you weren't you just don't have a fair chance.

Bo, I could invite one friend if I had two tickets to tonight's Heat game. I would and then every other friend of mine would understand. "He didn't take me, he took someone else."
How come it is so hard to understand the selection process for Select camp?
There are 10 or 12 or 15 spots (depending on the District and the age) and some decisions are very difficult. There is absolutely no way to make the necessary cuts and have every person look at the list and say yup, sounds good to me.
We have the same complaints from parents of kids that don't get through to the District camp in our affiliate. Once they get to the Southeastern level, we have the same complaints from parents that don't make it to national.
These complaints are endemic to the process.
I have a hard time believing that kids from large associations are given preferential treatment. Can someone please explain the tryout and selection process you are using? Here we have outside evaluators, typically NCAA assistant coaches, that have no incentive to favor one kid over another. Is the allegation that the Edina youth coaches get to look through the list and make changes before Minnesota Hockey makes it official? Seriously, what is the allegation?
It's far easier to claim favortism than it is to expose it.

It's been a day-and-a-half. Nobody wants to take a stab at explaining the Minnesota tryout and selection process?
I told a friend about this thread. His reply? "Why would he have any pull at the national level?" It's a valid question.
Is the charge that the evaluators favored certain kids?
Is it that Minnesota Hockey had a preliminary list and a few people were allowed to veto or override certain selections?
Help me understand what you say happened.

Of course there will be favoritism then!
