Metro Bantam Teams

Post by buttend »

Edina is always tough. if Bellows goes to SSM that would be a big blow to the Hornets. They are deep and will still have a tough team Always the team to beat.

Prior Lake 5-6 + a top goalie returners plus a number of players off the State PeeWee A Championship team. This team will be a top Metro Team , Top 5 State team.

Farmington over half of last years Bantam team could return, the question is, does Farmington keep their 2 97 Def or do they move up to HS? How many other move ups? Losing a 98 to Russell Stover. Losing those "D" will make them average.

Rosemon
t losing a 98 to SSM, could lose a 97 to HS maybe another 97 Def to a private HS. If that happens this team fades away.

Wayzata
will be a Top Team in the metro and State. How good depends on if they lose anyone. I'm not hearing of any loses as of now! If MZ stays they will have one of the top fwds in the state with a team of very solid players.

Burnsville will be a top 5 Metro Team, top 5-7 State team or better They have 6-7 returners, a very good goalie plus a number of kids off the Bantam B1 and PeeWee A team. Well coached D6 top contender.

Woodbury, rumor has it they will lose two top players to HS. They already lost a top 97 to SSM. With out those 3, Woodbury is an average Bantam A team.

EP
will be a sleeper team. They are keeping their best returning Bantam A from last year plus 3-4 others , adding a a few BB1's plus players off a very good PWA team. Top 10 team.

Elk River
is always tough, they return some nice players, and have a good flow of bantams and PeeWees coming up. top 10 State team.

Lakeville South
, losing players left and right, NS probably goes to HS. Nice group of PeeWee's coming up. Rebuilding year, average Bantam A team. Top 18-25 State team

Lakeville North
Not allot of returners, not allot in the funnel. Top 18-25 State team

Top Metro teams (assuming loses mentioned above)

Wayzata
Edina
Prior Lake
Burnsville
EP
Elk River

and Yes Minnetonka ! will be a top 15-20 State team due to their D6 schedule plus they have a good group of PeeWee's coming up. Although they are no better than 5th in D6.

1- prior lake
2- Edina
3- Burnsville
4- my fav ... ROSEMOUNT.

ROSEMOUNT will do well this coming year.
And so on ......
You really think PL should be ranked that high? How did this group do in Squirt A's two years ago? I know they had a Squirt B1 team  but do you really think PL will be that good this winter?

I am going out on a limb on this topic:

AA Bantams: not in any order.
Edina - always very good.
Wayzata - too much depth not to be good.
EP - will be strong
Rosemount & Farmington- both have potential but HS could really hurt these teams which could push them to 15 - 20 ranking.
OMG - a lot of kids in the program. A handful of good first years coming in from peewee A season. Need private school kids to stay.
Prior Lake - a lot of committed hockey players in this association. They will be very good.
Elk River - will be in the hunt. They always seem a way to make it to state.
Burnsville - dont expect them to be as dominant as they were the first half of peewee A season two years ago but they will be in contention.

You're right about Prior Lake's program. They will be contenders for years to come.

They were extremely good at Peewee level last year. Will they be great again at Peewee level this year?

According to the PWA PL parents from last year. They even said this years group won't be as strong as last year. Take a look at two years ago. Who were the best Squirt A teams in D6? Top two were Edina and Chaska/Chanhassen.

Who knows maybe Prior Lakes experiment of having a Squirt B1 team two/three years ago will pan out for this year?

Fargo 2010 Final was Edina over Minnetonka by 6 goals.
D6 Final, Edina over Jefferson by 8 goals.

Edina will be class of PWA.

I'd say OMG next, then Minnetonka, CH/CH then Grand Rapids

Here are 10 teams that will compete for spots 6-10 all year:

EP, Eastview, Farmington, STMA, Sibley, Cloquet, Stillwater, MAML, Woodbury and Duluth East.

I said "here are 10" as in "10 potential" not "the only 10"

I didn't put Wayzata in there because we don't know their AA/A stance yet.

As Squirts two years ago the teams you listed were pretty good. Here's my take on 3.

Agree: Orono did well in Fargo
Agree: STMA was on my list until i forgot Duluth East
Disagree: Rochester didn't impress the two times I saw them 2 years ago.
N/A: Do data on WBL or Hastings (they had a nice SQA team 2 years ago, but have zero data on how they did outside of D8)

5 more to keep an eye on:

LVS: heard rumors they are getting some Northern Edge kids from outstate
Rosemount: lotsa talented '00 and '01 in Rosemount
Jefferson: D6 SQA finalist two years ago
Edina A: yes, the hornets 16-30 will win A hands down
Woodbury: an association this size won't surprise anyone

FWIW, there is no way in H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks Wayzata doesn't go AA. No way. (I believe they've already declared to District 3.)

Last year they fielded 2 PWA teams (evenly balanced). Will they field two AA teams this year and continue a more development model or go AA/A, like most assume? If you know the scoop, please advise. Thanks.

Heard Wayzata is going two even A teams for PW and SQ. Bantams have not been decided yet, but there is a push to go two even there also.

Can we say it is crazy to field a 2nd A team (A) for any association if its top A team (AA) is not in the top 20 ranked? Unless if the number is to field 6 or more teams? :?: :?:

Surprising. Why not just go with one AA and one A?

Makes no sense. They wouldn't field a team at AA? I think this is bad or old information. If they are thinking about two AA teams, then they'll be in the same boat they were this year at SQA and PW - middle of the pack.

Interesting. But some associations struggled for years with the idea of getting more players, 34 instead of just 17, to play at a high level to develop more, better, players. Finally some moved to have more than one A team to develop 34 players equally. The AA designation just reverts back to separation of the top 17 which the associations, after a lot of discussion, had decided was against the best development model. Maybe the biggest should do two teams at AA and two at A.

The idea was a bad one anyways. Why cater to 10-20% of all membership at the expense of 80% of your membership. A lot of these ideas are brewed up by selfish people.

BlueWhiteFan: Wayzata teams were NOT "middle of the pack" at PW. I would say having 2 teams in the top 20 is pretty good. Lakeville obvious had a better showing with South on top but North was also Top 20. I would think Wayzata will field 2 AA again at PW, maybe only 1 AA at Bantam. Then probably 1-2 A level teams also. Edina should consider doing the same. If Lakeville and Wayzata can develop 30+ players at the top level, one would think Edina would want to also.
