Does anybody have any Experience with Northern Educate in Egan. The couple questions I have are.

Is the Education comparable or better than a public schoo?


How can you expect your kid to be able to play association hockey if he is on the ice for 3 hours and dry land for an hour. Wouldn't your kid be to tired to compete on a traveling team also?


Any other information from people with first hand knowledge would be great.

Their website shows a picture of the Eagan Arena? But it sounds like it is a school at $11,500 per year? Yurio is the Hockey Coach? I don't follow the concept of this?

Is this the same one that was supposed to be based out of the super rink and Spring Lake Park school system last year?

No different, that was Skinner. This is NEEHS. Yes Yuro is the coach/one of the hockey. I think Travis Dundore also coaches and he is very good[in my opinion]. I think a the guy who runs the school is named Black.

My 99 son attended Norther Educate last year and will again this year. It was the best experience he has yet in school. Not every student fits into a 60-80 minute class room setting. My son was one of these students. He needs the dry land training and ice time just to let him be able to focus in the class. I also had concerns about the academics. One of my son's team mates father is in admin. at the U of MN and he went through it and was very impressed. As far as association hockey, he had no problems with fatigue for practicet. On game day he often did not skate for the entire session, or would focus on what he wanted to work on. ie face offs etc. Yuro and his staff also modify the training curve to align with association hockey. It's tough at first to help get into shape. Then as association ramps up, NE training ebbs into more conceptual and less stress adaptation. Then as association winds down, NE kicks back into high gear. I would encourage any one of you who have questions or interest or simply just want to see what goes on at Northern Educate to come to the Eagan Civic Center any time in September and see for yourselves. This is not a bunch of parents who have NHL signing bonus dreams in their heads. Most of us are happy just to see our kids having success in the class room and spend part of the day doing what they love to do.

Thanks for the information. I was looking into it just concerned he won't get the education he needs and is it really worth spending the $11,500 for my son to play hockey during school hours.

That is a question you have to answer. For my son, This was his 5th school in 8 years. Not counting 10k spent at Huntington Learning which did nothing for him. He was able to focus and work hard in class, and met or exceeded all his course requirements. Another milestone! For us, him yes it's worth it!
Come on out and have a look at what a day is like. Also, I believe there is a thirty minute video on you tube.

The hockey can be considered gym class. Instead of scooters they play hockey that seems like a win there. My ? would be for kids that play football or baseball/whatevewr. How do they play these sports @ the older ages? In FL these are school sports from 7th grade on up.

Another question would be is they recommend you to play association hockey. How does your student have time to do homework in the evening and play association hockey. They are in shorter classes so I am expecting them to have a ton of homework.

Also what do they do when they reach high school where do they play high school hockey?

The school day is shorter than a traditional school. However, there is no extraneous time in halls. There is a per week time requirement that allows flexibility to cater to the students needs. If the student is behind, they skip the skate and or dry land to make up work. For those gone on Fridays for sports or family reasons, the lap top will travel and they can keep up on school. Is this the place for every student most likely not, but my son has done great here. Also this year the school will have cross country, and trap shooting for extra curricular activities. I have heard of other opportunities coming up. All association sports are open for these students to participate in, similar to the home school or small private school that do not provide lthose activities.
They play high school in the town they live, but I believe (not certain) that Eagan is an option since that is where the school is currently located.

Nice to see another Private school that will recruit kids to play in the single A state tournament. I guess we could just call the Single A state tournament the private school tournament and the AA the real school tournament.

According to a parent of a current player, STA doesn't move up because the administration does not want to encourage attendance solely for hockey purposes.

They feel it's more proper to dash the dreams of the small town kids that deserve success at that level?

What if they had a hard time dominating at AA.......? Don't buy into their propaganda, it's only about the dollar. Christian based?

STA not moving up IS a joke!! Kids already go there just for the hockey!!
Let this Northern Educate school play at A, if they dominate, move up! It would be sweet to see them take down STA in the playoffs in the first season!!!!

Even if they offer high school hockey. There is no way they can build a competitive team right way. Impossible. It will take time to build the team, not to mention there's not even a school to call home. I know Northern Edge people have big plans, and I applaud them for it. It will be exciting to see what happens in the future. No baseball, no football, no soccer, and no LAX? What is the registration fee's?
