Bermuda Triangle of Hockey Posts

Post by Sweet Dreams »

I was following a topic recently having to do with the 03 Blades recruiting techniques for the Brick, and after a long weekend it has disappeared. Funny how all the bashing of others is acceptable and only gets locked, but truths come out and topics magically disappear. Funny how things happen and work out for some and not others.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought one post was questionable but nothing to wipe it completely off. Don't they normally just lock them?

A few notes:

-Seemingly innocent rumors and discussion can have far-reaching implications, particularly when spread by people who think they are under the cover of anonymity.

-While I certainly do not think this forum has a vast amount of influence in the world of hockey in Minnesota, it has some. Transcripts of discussions from this forum have been used in public meetings as "evidence" in certain cases. Based on the volume of complaints we receive, if a player or his family are discussed in a negative manner on this forum, they WILL hear about it, sooner or later. In several cases, for example, kids have learned about discussions held about them or their families in school.

-While we do our best to allow free discussion, this does not mean we are free to toss any rumor we have heard into the discussion. This can, in some cases, be grounds for a libel suit, and there are ways to track where the posts made to this forum come from. If you don't think there are people out there who will consider legal action, you are naive.

-Also, remember that other posts that violate forum rules may be deleted before a final lock or deletion. A thread that "seems to only have one mildly offensive post" may in fact have many.

-I assure you that "paranoia" or complaints are not limited to any one program. We receive complaints from just about all of them from time to time, and may or may not act on them.

-None of the moderators on this forum are residents of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. None of us have any horses in the ongoing competition between the Blades, Machine, MG, etc. and, frankly, are a bit exasperated by the whole thing. These discussions are the root of the majority of our complaints these days, and cleaning up after them is never any fun.

As the forum rules state, we prefer not to discuss moderator policy on the forum. If you have further inquiries, please send me a PM. As several users can likely attest, I am usually quite willing to discuss my decisions in a more private context. Remember, however, that there are two other administrators on this forum who may take action before me, and it is not realistic for us to communicate the reasoning for every action we take with one another. While I think we are fairly consistent, we may not react to things the same way. As the rules also state, it is not always possible for us to read every single word posted to this forum. Thus certain posts that may be offensive can slip through the cracks, unless someone alerts us of their presence. These are the most likely causes of "inconsistency" in moderator policy.
