Maroon and Gold Bantam AA League

Post by hockeyfan3133 »

What is this? What teams are involved? Is this the league for Bantam AA teams or just scrimmages? Is there a website for this "league" that keeps track of standings?

if you have to ask, your kid is probably not in it, so who cares? Our son has been involved in it since PWA...it is a great league to supplement regular district play with tougher opponents that will challenge them...get them ready for regions and state.

As a matter of fact, my child does participate in this league. I just wanted to know a little background on it.
Do they keep standings for any reason?

Why the attitude? Simple question. Maroon and Gold is a league of teams put together by a few coaches a number of years ago. They play home and home games against each other where they can fit them in throughout the season. Shattuck used to participate but this year they are out. I know of a Bantam A league or AA now, but have no knowledge of one for peewees. Standings are informally kept but with Shattuck iinvolved it was a bit silly.

Never heard of it at the Pee-wee level. Great way for top end assc. to get some games in. Surprised Woodbury is not in it.

I believe it is composed of Rochester, Edina, Wayzata, Centennial, Eden Prairie (I'm hearing Prior Lake may be a newcomer this year) and possibly Duluth East.

I have seen M&G game mentioned on a few PWA sites, so yes I'd say PWAs use this format as well.

Half of me likes it -- it makes life easier for the schedulers of the world. It's really hard to plan a decent balanced schedule.

Half of me doesn't -- a little elitist (I get calls to write about it all the time...I'm mostly indifferent, so I choose not to write about it).

It started in Bantams 5 or more years ago. Teams have changed over time but the same 6 or 7 have been there the whole time. Not sure why it is called a league? My understanding is it is just prescheduled scrimmages, home and away between the teams involved. PeeWees started 2 years ago.

Bantam teams in 2012
WBL
Centennial
Duluth East
Wayzata
Rochester
EP
Edina
Hermantown (new with Shattuck leaving)

other teams that have participated in past
Tonka
Blaine
Shattuck

Stumbled onto a few of those games over the course of the last couple of years. Some great hockey played. Will have to see if any of them are playing locally and when so that I can try to sneak over to a few of them.
