BSM and Tonka both brought big student sections last year. I'd be willing to bet that come playoff time, BSM brings a bigger percentage of its student body than any other school.TheHockeyDJ wrote:For Section 6AA what would be the best title game matchup at Mariucci in terms of what will bring the most attendance? Eden Prairie vs. Minnetonka? Benilde vs. Wayzata?
EP is one of the biggest schools in the state, but I remember being at the Target Center in 2010 and EP had maybe 50 kids there. They had two rows of kids at a big game at Braemar last year. They sat down during their state quarterfinal game in 2011. Bottom line is EP's student section always seems to disappoint.
As far an general attendance goes, Tonka, EP, and Wayzata all have big youth programs, so that would boost attendance. Obviously BSM doesn't have a youth program (although many kids in those other programs have siblings at BSM or plan on going there), but if that top line puts up big numbers all season, that will attract the common fan from around the metro.

I agree with the comments on Eden Prairies student section. The only time I have ever been impressed by them is the state tournament. Occasionally at regular season games they have high attendance, but never seem to be loud. Schools need to take notes from Burnsville, IMOP the best student section in the state.

There are so many transfers into EP varsity that the general student body doesn't really know the kids that actually get ice time. Meanwhile, homegrown EP kids that are lucky enough to make the team spend their more than their fair share of time on the bench or JV.Metrohockeyfan wrote:I agree with the comments on Eden Prairies student section. 6 EP seniors on the V team this year? graduating class of 700+, do the math... `1 % represented.

I would have to agree 100% with the comments about EP's student section. When EP played Minnetonka in the State Quarterfinals in football this year, EP filled up about 1/5 of their assigned section while Minnetonka filled the whole section and then some.
There might be somewhat of a mentality of "Been there, done that" as they have won 2 hockey and 6 football state championships since 2000.
The few times Wayzata has made it to Mariucci, they have produced a very large and loud crowd. Way better than EP.
That being said, I predict (like many others) a Minnetonka/BSM rematch at Mariucci this spring. I would expect Mariucci to be nearly full that night as the 2AA section championship, likely between Edina and Burnsville, will be much closer than past years IMO.

Re: EP xfers
I believe there are two on this team....but they lose more than they gain..BSM has the older Graham, Will Duda to BSM, Dayton Rassmussen to Holy Family, Lacome to Holy Family.... and the two titles that EP did win had "zero" transfer in's.....but lost many to BSM, Holy Angles, and Blake.blueblood wrote:One this year.
