Warm-up

Post by blueblood »

With a blog name like goalieDad763, I would think that you would have noticed the situation and offered to help?

Don't rely on the rink attendants. IMO, they generally could care less, unless your my bud Zamman. 8)

I was the 1 that banged on the Zamboni drivers door to get another net finally. After Trying to get the refs to do something about it, then barking at the refs for 5 minutes!

Why would refs put teams on the ice when they don't have both nets on the ice? Why the heck would they start the warm up clock with just One team having a net? Then wait for the warm up time to be out of time b4 setting up a 2nd net?
That 5 minutes gets the teams passing started and the goalie into seeing their shots!

If your going to let One team not get a normal warm-up in, then both teams should have been forced to warm-up net-less. It was poor choices by the refs and all coaches involved.
I take your son's team lost ?

That is pretty sloppy work by the referees. I suppose it is such an odd occurrance that they don't look for it, but the pre-game checklist is pretty short.

1. Resurfacer is off the ice.
2. Resurfacer door is closed.
3. Ice is frozen and in good condition.
4. No apparent hazards on the ice.
5. Two nets.
6. What time is it?

I can't think of anything else they need to check for.

Is it the norm here that only people have questions about a call/etc if their team loses?
Or do some of us here just like poking at teams that lose?

Oh those Darn Refs......

Just poking fun at the teams that lose sounds good

Your post was labeled a gripe mine was simply a question ( see question mark ) and obviously not having 2 nets for warmup is incorrect so yes, generally speaking a gripe is usually from losing team. Shouldn't happen we all know that but posting it? really ?

If you want to vent ... write a post then don't submit it. its cathartic and keeps clutter off the board.

goalieDad - I was at game. We have nothing to do with rink mgmt or zamboni guy, but I certainly apologize. I can assure it was not "dirty play" by us. We were as surprised as you to see one net and we immediately tried to fix the problem. 2 of our coaches and 4 of our parents were trying to find Zamboni guy and were actually bringing a net from a different rink when we found out a 2nd net had been placed. Other than that - nice game. Your kid played well. Good luck the rest of the way.

As an Official we are sappose to be there ready to step on the ice when the Zamboni driver shuts the door. Maybe they could have caught the situation if they noticed it before the Zamboni left the ice. not sure how the arena is set up but maybe the ref's (due to having skates on) could not get to the arena attenedent ?? However - due to the arean / association rules, warm up time gets very limited due to game times and fear of running over time allocated for the game. If the ref's started the 5 minutes once the nets were in place the next gripe could have been that the game was unable to finish due to out of arena time. it unfortunate it happened, hopefully its a very rare occurance. Glad all worked out in the end.

Pretty sure no team is supposed to go on the ice without the refs on the ice first.

Correct?
