I'm gonna beat Roy to this one and make my predictions for tomorrow's games. (in bold)

Rochester Lourdes vs. Northfield
Mankato West vs. Fairbault
Mahtomedi vs. New Prague
Red Wing vs. Winona
Albert Lea vs. Owatonna
Achiever Academy vs. L-H/SP
Austin vs. Mankato East
New Ulm vs. Waseca
La Crosse Central (WI) vs. La Crescent

Games I'm most interested in is the Lourdes and West. We'll see how NP holds up against a Mahtomedi team coming off a big win against Blake and losing to Breck in OT.

Thank you for taking this one, I'm in finals weeks haha. I haven't had much of a chance to update.

I'd like to see New Prague get a good win under them, and it'd be nice to see Red Wing come into their Saturday game against Lourdes with a little momentum.

No injuries. I think it's a result of a few things -

To start, I'm just not entirely sure the caliber is there as there has been in the past for Red Wing. Whether it be Ryan Kesti, or Blake Schammel (for example) there isn't that "go-to" guy like there has been in the past. Youth is a big part of it as well, ESPECIALLY on the blue line. It looks like there have been some goaltending issues as well. Biggest thing I've noticed though is I'm not sure these boys don't know how to play late in the game...

Fergus Falls I believe they were up 4-2 in the third,
Tartan was tied 0-0 going into the third,
North St. Paul they were up at least 2-0 before losing 4-3,
Winona was up 3-1 going into the third as well...

Half of their losses were a result blown leads in the second half of the game...Not sure if it's poor conditioning, inexperience, or just laziness, but either way they need to get things moving. They sit at 0-7 right now. It is very possible they could go 0-10 to start the year with their next three games being Lourdes, Mayo, and Holy Angels. Or even worse than that, they could have a win-less in December.

I am going to watch the Lourdes vs. Red Wing game this weekend, should be interesting to see how that one ends up...

Well, after that poor performance on predictions, I'm going to leave it up to Roy from now on. .

The Red Wing game definitely caught my eye and Roy makes a good point that they could potentially start the season 0-10 which would be a blow for any team's morale. In their first 7 games, they have scored only 15 goals. That's barely 2 goals a game on average. If you look at who they graduated last year, they lost 7 of their top 10 point holders. BUT, they have a solid goalie in Blaney who saw most of the varsity action last year as a junior and was probably looking at having another solid year. Defensive breakdowns and scoring issues could be the blame of this Red Wing team, but definitely don't want to start pointing fingers.

Also thought the New Prague game was pretty interesting. From what I heard, it was a pretty back and forth game with each team having about the same amount in time of possession. Also, looks like New Prague may have found a pretty solid replacement for the goalie they graduated last year. Current goalie (after having a shaky start vs. West) has a .907 save percentage and if you exclude the West game, .950 save percentage. That .950 is against Lourdes, North St Paul and Mahtomedi. Three teams I wouldn't expect to be having offensive woes. Definitely a good thing to have a goalie to rely on.

Northfield should be able to keep their solid start going, looking ahead, they could win out January. Very unlikely facing a much better AHA team and they will be tested by NP and MW. We'll see what Scofie... er I mean Northfield can do against them.

After following scores up until this point and watching Rochester Lourdes vs. Northfield last night, here is my take on Section 1-A. I wasn't impressed with Rochester Lourdes at all. They lack size, depth and patience. They are a very fast team and can beat almost anyone to the puck but they make a lot of knee-jerk decisions instead of waiting and having things open up. The score could have easily been 8-1 vs. Northfield but there were a lot of missed passes, bad shots, blocked shots, pipes, etc.

The teams that will give Lourdes the most trouble are Mankato West and New Prague. Outside of that, I don't see anyone else being able to contend. It will be interesting to see how Lourdes does against Mankato West.

Section 1-A:

1. Rochester Lourdes
2. New Prague
3. Mankato West
4. Northfield
5. Faribault

I think it will come down to Rochester Lourdes vs. New Prague in the section final.

I agree with this post. New Prague really seems to be getting it together after the opening hiccup vs MW. T he scarlets haven't really played that tough of a schedule thus far but I think they are improved from last year. Northfield will be a threat at the end but the rumors of being more of a individual type team could hold them down a bit. New Prague is coming together as a team since the departure of the two top scorers from last year!

IT'S NOT HOW YOU START, IT'S HOW YOU FINISH.

Lourdes over Red Wing: 8-2

First game I've seen Lourdes play this year. Red Wing was, to put it lightly, throttled by Lourdes... The Eagles dictated the play for the whole game - they set the tone early by scoring 15 seconds into the first. Lourdes had excellent team speed; the Wingers could not keep up at all.

The second goal the Wingers scored Ellingston had fallen over and it was a turnover in front. That aside, it was a 8-1 game. Still though, A LOT of missed opportunities for the Eagles. They hit at least two posts and missed about four back-door goals - wide open net. Could have very easily been 10-0...

Red Wing had no solution for the Eagles. They were down early and, in typical Lourdes fashion, the Eagles went into a contain system for the rest of the game and played very opportunistic outside the powerplay. A lot of careless plays on the blueline by the Wingers, I had suspected it earlier in the year to be an issue and this afternoon's game just reaffirmed it.

Further more, when the Wingers did get the puck, they did not know what to do with it. The lanes were closed quickly and they were hit every time they touched it. They were physically dominated.

As for the Eagles, I was impressed with their speed, but they still have some issues with their decision making and finishing opportunities. I'm sure by the end of the season that will all be ironed out, but overall it was a good win for them.

Lastly, Red Wing sits at 0-8 now. Hopefully they get things moving next week.

Same, I think the Falcon's are clicking a bit more now. The reason I chose LSP is simply goaltending. If Amsden plays well they'll come out on top.

Red Wing vs. Mayo and New Prague vs. Chanhassen scores provided in prior post.

WORTH NOTING: Red Wing's loss moves them to 0-9 on the year...next game is against Holy Angels. It's very likely the Wingers will be 0-10 to start the season.
