Edina lost 1 player to graduation and 1 to juniors.

How is that not virtually the same rosters as last year?
 ummm, Edina returns it's best players from last year and St. Thomas lost most of theirs. In fact, 3 of their top 5 players, Krieger, Commers and Schurhamer.

I realize math is not your strong suit, but that's a 60% turnover on the Cadets top line, replaced mostly by sophomores. Edina returns intact at the top of the roster. If that equates to a repeat of last year, then your rankings are starting to make sense

The Cadets will be fine and no doubt win the Class A Tournament again this year, but they will likely lose 2 games this week at Schwanns (and AT LEAST one) and this game won't be close. Hornets by 4 or 5

Rippin' goal for the game winner.

Looked to me that Novak caught the Edina line change at just the right moment.

Who would of thought two "Class A" teams in the semi's...!?!
Curious what others thought about how well played of a game it was. In my opinion, I thought both teams had a few too many Christmas cookies from the previous days and things were a bit sloppy. I did think that the pace did pick up as the game went on, but both teams looked lethargic to me.

Am I way off base though and did others watch a different game than me?

I would tend to agree with you Doc, but that can be expected. I did think to myself before the game that I felt St. Thomas was going to hand the Hornets their first loss. Edina has been just punishing on their shots on goal differential against teams but as of late have not been putting the puck in the net. That will catch up to you eventually as it almost did with EP last weekend. Regardless it's good to lose every once in a while and better now than later.

I have a slightly different take on it. IMO both teams were so good defensively that it more a matter of not giving their opponent much time or space to make plays, which made it appear a little disjointed and even sloppy at times. But given the tightness of the game I thought the players on both sides made the right decision with the puck a lot more often than your typical high school game.

Anyway, that was my take on it.

I am not from Edina but just a big hockey fan. I have seen Edina play 3 times and this was by far the worst I have seen them play. I understand st Thomas is good, but Edina looked awful.

Gotta be one of the worst games for Tyler nanne. I am a big fan of Louie and love listening to him on the radio. But Tyler looked lethargic like the rest of the hornets.

Off topic...was not impressed with east at all. Everyone comments how deep section 7aa is, maybe it should be the most overrated section.

Ironically, East is beating Edina 3-0....ouch.

This is quite the season so far! Anyone can beat anyone!

Also off topic, but after yesterday a few on this bord were starting to think East wasn't doing so hot. Looks as though Randolph reignited the fire just fine for today's game.

Quality of players are not only determined by the stat sheet...
Take a closer look at the stats from last year:

I saw Edina play in one game, but from their stat sheet, they look as though they were very top heavy; 4 players with over 15 points (one of them Louie Nanne) and 2 in the 40s, Tyler Nanne with 15 and 7 players with between 8 and 12 points. That looks very top heavy and not all around well rounded.

St Thomas had 11 players with over 15 points and none with over 40. No stars but a lot of good players that play together very well and everyone line can score.

Yes, they lost their 1st, 3rd and 5th leading scorers from

Last year, of their 31 games, 9 were 1 goal games, 3 OT games. They are a defensive team. In fact, if you asked anyone that knows anything about the team, they would tell you this year's best player was 15th in scoring on the team last year.

Anyway, good job on your prediction 8)

I've seen St Thomas play 5 games now; the game against Minnetonka was by far the worst they've played all year... ](*,)

I thought Edina would win but chose not to insult the math skills of those who disagreed. By the way Edina graduated 1 and lost 2 to juniors. Nanne and Walker

Not a fan of this; I missed a goal tonight because of this.
But I do like the fact that the commentator doesn't see the need to run his mouth all the time and is often silent when nothing is happening. All around, can't complain much at all.

So after East disposes of Edina does that make Edina the most overrated team in the state?

7AA is deep with solid teams, not elite teams.

This is what I have taken away from watching Edina play a good team in sta and probably true against east.

They have 1 line. Hurley looks like he can dominate with his speed. Personally nanne looks like tries when he wants to and also looks like he is crying at all times through his mask. There 2nd line look ok against average teams but wasn't impressed watching sta and would assume maybe the same during the east game. Now your casual fan is going to say that they scored the goal against sta...means nothing to me. I thought their 3rd line looked like garbage against sta and will assume the same against east. Their 4th works their tails off! They were out there for a quick face off goal against sta top line I assumed cause it was always the line that played against Hurley. So this line scores on edina's 4th line and than they got benched. Sounds like Giles put them in that position.

Now on to their defense. 5 and 6 look like studs...maybe. And the rest look very average. Good teams should be able to exploit those d.

Lot of assumptions after watching one game. 3rd line looks like "garbage"? Thanks for the insight.

Wasn't it #6 who Novak turned inside out on the winning goal? #5 was out there as well...

That's why I said maybe...5 is going D1 so he must be good and 6 looks ok as well. Their other 4 didn't look so great. Anyways I watched them play rapids and elk river which are probably both considered average teams.

And I am assuming they didn't play so hot against east either. Correct? So...actually my assumptions are based off 4 games.

And I think lots of people would agree about their defenseman. Not the strongest part of their team.

My intent wasn't to criticize them in any way, heck there isn't a defenseman anywhere in the state who doesn't make a mistake once in a while. On that particular play it looked to me like #5 may have partially committed himself when Novak bobbled the puck a little. #5 took that one little misstep, and Novak was coming in so fast that it caught #5 flat-footed and he couldn't recover. But other than that one mistake I thought he played a very good game.

You did see the Novak goal with 6 and 5 being walked and late in covering right? Pretty passive defense overall for an OT goal by two D1/Elite league players. As shown this weekend the Hornets are very beatable.
