Red River(6-1-1) @ East Grand Forks (9-0-2) 1-3-13 7:30pm
1 of the Green Wave's 2 ties were given to them by Red River in their last game. Red River was ND's best team last year and are doing similarly well this season. Thursday will be the second of three meetings for the year.
The first game was great to watch...lots of back and forth action, ending in a shootout. East Grand seemed to have a lot more depth than RR...they rarely had to double shift anybody. Heck, they had their third D pairing on the ice with under two minutes in regulation. On the other side, RR was double shifting Lizotte and Benson, so they appeared gassed by the end. Also, RR got great goaltending from Sauve, who stopped 4 breakaways, I think. EGF seemed to generate a lot more pressure than RR, and I think this should continue on Thursday night...maybe around 4-2 EGF.

I would love to see an EGF victory and keep rolling along. Unfortunately, I know a team like RR will be better prepared for this match. They seem to do a nice job of breaking teams down and looking for the kinks in the armor. I believe, from what I hear, that's what they did to the Davies the second time they played them(and won).
I see RR capitalizing, tonight, on the weakness of EGF's D. It was fairly apparent the last time they played. There are a couple of them that can't seem to stop floating around and making foolish plays, that inevitably ends up in turnovers,penalties and goals. That has been the downfall of a couple of those players for the past several years and the coaching staff fails to remedy it. I'm sure it will come back and bite them when it matters most(hopefully not). What's the old saying, "History repeats itself"?
Deathblow mentioned something in another post about some very capable D at EGF's JV level. Have they been working them all in to see what kind of chemistry there is at the Varsity level?
I'm sure the offense will bang like they usually do and sink a few as long as they keep shooting. It looks like they have been putting quite a few shots on their competition.
In any case, tonights match up should be a good one. I can't wait to see what the results are.
