Confirmed, my first time watching Breck....pretty good young team minus Ms Schipper. Strong effort by both teams!Hockey03 wrote:MNHockeyFan wrote:The score for the first game in this week’s contest has been reported, and we already have our first upset:
Breck 3, Lakeville South 2
(no Game Sheet/stats are yet available, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kate Schipper's return had an impact on the result)
Three of sixteen prognosticators are off to a very good start, especially two of whom also got the score exactly right:
1. FASTWHEATIE - 2
luckyEPDad – 2
3. Fishfreak11 – 1
4-16. Everyone else with 0!
I don't believe Kate Schipper was at the game last night.

Re: Breck vs Lakeville South
Schipper had a very strong tournament playing for the USA U18 team in Finland, scoring (I believe) 5 goals and 8 assists in their 5 games. She's obviously Breck's top player this year so for Breck to beat Lakeville South without her is quite the accomplishment!mnhcp wrote:Confirmed, my first time watching Breck....pretty good young team minus Ms Schipper. Our scores from this evening – all great games!
Buffalo 3, Eden Prairie 1
Buffalo’s Katie Rooney scored two goals, including an empty netter with 43 seconds remaining, to lead her Bison team over Eden Prairie. Rooney also assisted on Abby Halluska’s second period score that put Buffalo up 1-0. Lindsey Hartfiel faced 34 shots while surrendering just one goal, scored by Eden Prairie’s Anna Johnson.
This was Buffalo’s second consecutive win over a team ranked in the top 3 in Class AA. They are obviously playing some great hockey right now.
In our contest 7 of 18 had Buffalo winning, and we had one perfect score, by Rocketwrister.
Minnetonka 1, Edina 0 (OT)
Laura Bowman’s unassisted goal at 1:40 of overtime broke a scoreless tie to win it for the Skippers. Hannah Ehresmann stopped all 26 Edina shots to earn the shutout, while Boomer Sonnek was very solid at the other end, posting 32 saves for the Hornets.
Minnetonka has now won their last three games - and four out of the last five - by a single goal. The great teams seem to find a way to win!
In our contest all but one predicted a Minnetonka win, but nobody thought it would be a 1-0 game.
Hopkins 3, Wayzata 2
The Royals’ Leah Chase scored the game winner with just 15 seconds remaining in the game to beat Wayzata at the Plymouth Ice Center. Nina Rodgers had a goal and two assists, and Corbin Boyd a goal and one assist for Hopkins, while Kaitlyn Klein scored both of Wayzata’s two goals. Wayzata won the shot battle 29-21, but the Royals’ Erin O'Neil came up big with 27 saves to get the win.
7 of 18 had Hopkins winning this game, and an amazing 5 of those 7 predicted the 3-2 score! The five who pick up the bonus include 36Guy, FlyingWarrior, luckyEPDad, ayhfan and Otter. Well done!
After the first four games of the week, here is how we stand:
1. luckyEPDad - 4 points
ayhfan - 4
Otter - 4
4. 36Guy - 3
FlyingWarrior - 3
Rocketwrister - 3
FASTWHEATIE - 3
8. Seven tied at 2
15. Four bringing up the rear with 1

The first reported result tonight has to be considered an upset, if the collective wisdom (?) of our panel is any indication:
Orono 5, North Wright County 4
Orono scored four consecutive goals in the 3rd period, including two in the final minute, to erase a two goal deficit and beat the River Hawks 5-4. Leading the Spartans comeback was junior and team leading scorer Rebekah Smith. Smith finished with two goals and two assists. Brianna Bren scored the game winner with 36 seconds remaining, and she also picked up one assist on the night.
Only Racki2016 and sinbin saw this upset coming, so they pick up a point each on everyone else.
Mounds View 2, Roseville 1
Kathryn Larson scored the game winning goal at 11:06 of the first period, and the Mustangs held on to defeat visiting Roseville at the Super Rink in Blaine. Bella Sutton opened the scoring for the Mustangs just a little more than two minutes into the game, and the Raiders’ Kate Flug responded just two minutes later to tie it up. Sydney Brodt assisted on both Mounds View goals.
In our contest 12 of 18 went with the higher ranked Mustangs, and they pick up a point each as none of the 12 had the score right.
Here are our updated point totals headed into tomorrow night’s lone contest between Roseville and Hastings:
1. ayhfan – 5
2. 36Guy – 4
FlyingWarrior – 4
Racki2016 – 4
Rocketwrister – 4

Just one game to report this evening, and it was:
Roseville 6, Hastings 3
Kate Flug scored two goals and added two assists to lead Roseville past Hastings. Roseville's win avenged an earlier 3-2 defeat at the hands of Hastings in early December. Erika Bjorkman also contributed a goal and an assist for Roseville, while Sami Claussen scored two goals and an assist for Hastings. Hastings did have a slight 25-21 advantage in shots on goal.
Although 17 of 18 predicted a Roseville win and get a point, nobody got the score right. Here's our leaderboard heading into Saturday's five game finale:
1. ayhfan – 6
2. 36Guy – 5
FlyingWarrior – 5
Racki2016 – 5
Rocketwrister – 5
FASTWHEATIE – 5
luckyEPDad – 5

9. Knight7 – 4

The game that was scheduled between Hibbing/Chisholm and Crookston was postponed this evening, so that leaves with us just four games to conclude Week 10:
Edina 4, Wayzata 1
Taylor Williamson scored the first three goals in the game - in succession and all in the first period - for a pure hat trick to lead her Edina team to a 4-1 win over the Trojans. Edina’s Boomer Sonnek stopped all but one of Wayzata’s 28 shots to record the win.
In our contest 11 of 18 had Edina winning and add a point each.
Hopkins 4, Buffalo 0
Nina Rodgers scored two goals and Corbin Boyd a goal and two assists to pace Hopkins to a 4-0 win over the Bison at the Buffalo Civic Arena. Erin O'Neil made 18 saves for the Royals in posting a shutout.
Even though Hopkins was the higher ranked team coming into this game, for whatever reason only 6 of 18 prognosticators thought they would win. Once again there were no correct scores, as those who did favor the Royals thought it would be a much closer game.
Minnetonka 3, Eden Prairie 1
Eden Prairie’s Kate Rydland scored the first goal of the game just 30 seconds into the 1st period, but Minnetonka scored the next three and kept the Eagles off the scoreboard the rest of the way to win 3-1. The victory avenges a 4-1 loss to the Eagles in the championship game of the Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown. Goal scorers for Tonka were Sydney Baldwin, Hannah Behounek and Laura Bowman, while defender Sidney Morin picked up two assists. For the game the Skippers outshot the Eagles 31-12.
Minnetonka was heavily favored by our panel by a 15-3 margin. And of the 15, three also got the score right: Silent But Deadly, sinbin and Otter each get the bonus.
Lakeville South 4, Bloomington Jefferson 1
Chloe Batta had a pair of goals while Morgan Morse and Annabeth Smith each had two assists for the Cougars. Chloe Crosby stopped 28 of 29 of Jefferson’s shots for the win.
15 of 18 favored the Cougars, and we had one correct score – by mnhockey3535 – who adds the bonus point.
With tonight's action we have a three-way tie for 1st Place. Congratulations to 36Guy, ayhfan and sinbin who come out on top with 9 points each!
Here is the final Leaderboard for Week 10:
1. 36Guy - 9
