Weekly VideoCast: Salute to Champions

Post by YouthHockeyHub »

We salute 16 recent champs, talk specifically about 4 of them (and only 1 eats cake for dessert every night :) )...

Well, at least YHH finally posted the ultimate result from the Edina Pee Wee AA touranment that it covered so well in a preview and through the early rounds, but then for whatever reason ignored once the playoffs started. Still think the Centennial kids and their effort against Edina got shortchanged. (See post from that tournament thread--reprinted below.)

Inquiring minds want to know--why would Youth Hockey Hub and its correspondent preview this tournament in great detail, provide two posts with lengthy updates of pool play games, and then after the final four is set, completely ignore what happened in the championship round? The Hub posted stories on the PWA finals and the Bantam AA finals (which sandwiched the PW AA game), so the absence on any mention--even just a score posting--of the semis or championship game is conspicuous.

For the record, Edina nipped Centennial 4-3 to win the championship. The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period, before Edina managed a couple late goals. Centennial played really well in an exciting game--a fact that loyal readers of the Hub haven't yet heard, some three days after the tournament concluded.

I'm not advocating that all tournaments should be written up--to the contrary, it's maybe just a little silly to have such in-depth coverage of 12 / 13 year old games. But if you are going to cover the event, cover it all the way through. In other words, don't report on the Iowa caususes, the primaries, and the conventions, but then ignore the general electiion.

This was posted on the Edina tourney preview thread which ended up being dominated by why Edina won't let in AAA teams or some nonsense.

how come no one on this thread is talking about Centennial? They take down EP in a close game.. then almost take down Edina? Was anyone at the game? Great tourney by the way Edina!

Still some is better than none....create a topic/thread about a particular game if you need to. In the time you spent typing your post you could have provided your take on the game/semis/etc..

I like what they are giving us, and suspect if they get beat over the head enough there is no reason to continue, as I doubt they are in it for any $.

And if the reader is not at the game, she's simply out of luck? Presumably, these posts are to inform the hockey community about significant events going on, with the hope that the reader is intrigued enough to come back to the site in the future. Here, the Hub gave its readers remarkably detailed game previews, predictions, and summaries, only to go silent for the final act. Yes, I happened to be at the final (but not the semis) so I know what happened. Many other readers who had been following the story undoubtedly were not there. My guess is that if the Hub had achieved its goal of piquing the interest of the readers, it in turn disappointed such readers but not providing the last chapter.

I like the Hub...hope it makes money and continues to grow. But if it is going to be "the source" for youth hockey information, if should either be all-in on an event it chooses to cover or not cover it at all.

I see what Goal Judge is saying and he has a point. But I also don't think I am going to complain about content I get for free. Just saying.

I love what YHH is doing and hope their scope and coverage continues to grow.

There was an old man, a little boy and donkey.

On the first day the old man walked through the village with the little boy on the donkey. People in the village complained, "old man, you should be on that donkey...let the little boy walk".

On the second day the old man rode on the donkey and the little boy walked along side. People in the village complained, "old man, that boy is not strong enough to direct that donkey."

On the third day both the old man and the little boy rode on the donkey through the village. People in the village complained, "hey old man, that donkey can't handle the load of you two riding him."

So on the fourth day the old man and the little boy carried the donkey into town.

What did the people say on the fourth day ?

Typical ... YHH starts a story then doesn't report on the final out come

They said, "Nice Ass!" (Get it? Donkey....)

Sorry to have hit a nerve with the Hub. Because its reporting is usually so thorough, I guess I was surprised not to even see scores of the semis or finals. Oh well.

Looking forward to next month's preview and early round coverage of the Fargo Invitational!

(And Jet, thank you---you are a gentleman!)

Think there is a difference between sponsorship and reader-ship. I do not think I like everything what was written by yhh, but hardly I can complain about them.

Nothing. Simply the Judge said "she's simply out of luck" implying the Judge is female. SCB responded that "he has a point" commenting on Judge's post.

My bad. I did notice in a reread that I referenced The Judge as a male.
